    So much great information in this video! I have a Tennessee outdoor Hoss 600 outdoor burner and I set my burner up completely wrong! Its rated for 10,000 sq ft, but my house is from the 1880's and is around 4000sq ft. So it's all my burner can handle. Even though the wood cutting is alot of work it sure beats the 800 month in natural gas and electricity. Now with the burner going my bill is around 180 month for electricity and my gas is shutoff at the meter. I'm sure it could be even more efficient if can get this mini mansion insulated properly. My blower from my furnace runs constantly to keep up with the drafty house. Im going to try alot of your methods on here, keep up the great work!

    Great vid. We are just starting to build our Homestead and laying out all the out buildings. I was just wondering how big of a shed you built and how much wood do you burn a year. Thanks again you have helped me make up my mind to go with a out door wood Furnace.

    Wish you had made this 3 years ago. Kudos really nice set up We have a lot of the same Ideas I chose gravel as a bed, however left the stove outside. 20 feet from (back of) the work shop. 175' to the house. My main issue is/was icing around the front of the stove from roof run off, and flow of the land. I have a 16' "lean too" constructed off the back of the 3500sq foot shop. I hope I resolved the problem this year. I put eaves on last year and it helped, now an eaves heater plus some landscaping. Hey it's what I sent the boy to school for ;). If it doesn't I'll extend the roof line to cover the stove next year, more or less box it in. I have enough room for 3-4 years outside and another 1+ under the lean-too cover. Which I now don't care for. I'm paranoid if it starts on fire I'm placing it to close to the shop. This is why I like your "self contained area / building". Plus I now like the extra cold storage area. Considered about boxing it in with a fire wall between the stove and the lean-too wood supply. I do like the outside storage as it allows for ease of wood rotation. I'll admit heavy snow has been an issue despite covering it. Since this is hidden i'm okay,, so no eye sore or gossip. Now water lines. I wish I had a second run to the house for the hot tub & three season porch (or future.) But I think a manifold will work when ready for that. Whats your take on the manifolds I read pros and cons.
    Regards Al
    awesome job

    I like your setup, I didn’t think about the greenhouse roof I was just gonna go black and put more lights in, as far as the size, you said 2 years, for the load you described I would assume 10 cords a year, so if your storing 20 cords of split wood, a boiler and a generator, what’s the actual dimensions?

    Hi I was wondering what would be the cause of water flowing out of the fill vent when all the obvious has been check thermostats checking the water temp with a probe and checking water temp on inside furnace and according to all within a 5 degree range at 185 thanks I'm thinking back flow but my well pump doesn't come on when i call for heat the water stops overflowing ??

      You probably figured this out by now but it could be a breach in your heat exchanger that you use for domestic water

  • @thatguyc5899
    @thatguyc5899 3 роки тому

    Mr. Luff, Could you talk to me a bit more about when you had your setup as “seasonal”. I like the idea of just moving the furnace out for the heating season and putting it away for the warm months. Did you have any issues with freezing or heat loss with running the lines over the surface of your yard? I assume you had installed some threaded fittings on the side of the house to connect up to. Thank you.

    • @AltheatsupplyLLC
      @AltheatsupplyLLC  3 роки тому

      Sure thing! No real heat lose from the water lines on the ground. I also used Sharkbite fittings for the connections. It is in-creditable simple thing to do. and it work great.

    Good afternoon Jeff, I recently moved into a 100 year old farm house with steam heat. I have radiators in each room, the boiler is a peerless 121,000 btu oil boiler. is it possible to hook an outdoor boiler to my boiler through a plated heat exchanger.
    Thanks Mark.

    As and experiment, at the 5:02 point of this video. Instead of an "Exhaust" fan, why not reverse it's direction and have it blow air into the shed. That way when you open the fireplace door, the air blowing in will escape up the chimney, essentially blowing the smoke back into the fireplace. By having an exhaust fan, you are drawing the air out of the fireplace and exasperating the problem. Perhaps the fan could have a reverse switch attached, just like a ceiling fan in your home. That way you can use the fan in either direction depending on your needs. (Of course you would have to change the external vent covers you currently have.

    • @AltheatsupplyLLC
      @AltheatsupplyLLC  2 роки тому

      Great idea. However I would need to create a positive pressure in the shed for that to work. When i built my shed i need a lot of air flow to release a ton of moister that is coming out of the wood. You would be amazed how much water is in wood. When i load a couple cords of wood, the next day the ceiling is dripping. Thanks for the idea.

    Love the shed. What kind of boiler is that one?
    I am looking at getting a wood boiler. I live in Wisconsin so we have some cold long winters.
    I have a 1000 square foot home. It is Old and drafty. We have a new and well insulated 800 square foot shop with 12 foot ceilings and a 400 square foot rec room upstairs. I would like something efficient on wood and be able to fill 2times a day (or less in warmer weather) What current model boiler would you recommend?

    all outdoor wood furnaces under insurance laws must be 50 feet from anything combustible, that's trees out building made of wood, fences house, the insurance company will cancel your policy if these are not followed, being this unit is in side a wood building the insurance company will cancel or give you so many days to fix it, now if the building you put it in is all steel you are ok, but your wood pile must be 50 feet away, as well as anything close to the metal building that can burn must be removed

    • @sonocativo
      @sonocativo 6 років тому

      This is not a wood stove, and it varies state to state, but here you can have one of these against your house as they are completely insulated ( no heat on the exterior at all ) you just have to follow flue guidelines. Also being the structure is not attached to the house exempts it as you can or don't have to insure an out building, its your choice really and depending on the locations you have to follow your insurance carrier if you choose to insure the outbuilding.

    • @arnoldromppai5395
      @arnoldromppai5395 6 років тому

      as an installer, it would cancel all coverage, some MFG make a model that is approved for indoor use and close clearances, those units can be installed in your home or a wood building as long as it is one that is approved for such, it is a liability issue not weather the out building is insured, because if anything including a wood out build went up inflames the fire will spread to other property from that out building, wood pile, , tree fence or what ever is flammable, I have had customers insist me to install it were they want it in spite of me informing them of the 50 foot rule, I have them sign a waver saying the install is being done agenised my opinion and in no way am I responsible or obligated to move it free of charge, and a year or 2 later they get a letter from there carrier to remove the stove to a location not less then 50 feet from anything combustible, including your wood pile, with in 15 days or your policy will be cancelled, that customer calls me up and blames me for putting it there and wants me to dig up the wires and water lines and move it at my cost, sorry but I tried telling you and you signed the waver, I do not get into a pissing match with them over the install, I just have them sign... now if they want it moved they pay me,, its bad when you did a concert pad and all, the bottom line with these as long as it is installed right, insurance carrier exempt you from any fire risk unlike a in home wood stove were they charge a premium for added wood stoves in the home
