Sad to see that Wales points only arose from penalties. Their threes line was doing great ball handling but seemed to always fade away when the try line neared.

They scored a try, it might have come from a penalty but it was still a try.

In rugby historically the home team changes kit when clashes occur.

Ah thanks, I didn't know that. But where is the clash? There was no clash for the same game last year, with Wales (home) in their red shirt and white shorts with broad red seams, and England in their usual all white:

Well done England. I hope they take time to compare the benefits they obtained from running with the results achieved from kicking. Very confused about playing colours. I thought home teams played in their home colours, and that colours are based on national flag. There's no blue in the England flag. Can anyone enlighten me?

The women's rugby is better to watch than the turgid men's game but the BBC commentator is dire. Katie D-M would do a far better job.

Absolutely. Less is more in commentary; there were a few less personal anecdotes this week, but we still get what John Cleese called 'a masters degree in the bleedin obvious'. Yes, we know that was a big tackle, or the scrum is going backward, or she's a powerful woman, or she's found touch ... and stop screaming, please.

Why do the commentators big up the Welsh when they are clearly struggling, claiming that the Welsh are defending well when they have missed the first tackle, yet again, and then failed to prevent the offload. It isn’t doing them any favours and they subsequently look foolish when the score goes stratospheric.

Because the game is on the BBC which has a history of being anti English in their news and sports commentary.

Good to see Kat Roche penalize England for taking 8 seconds after being told to "use it". Scum half (or whoever) has 5 seconds from being told to use it. Hope others follow her lead.

    • @garymoore2535

Referee's should be there to maintain fair play, nothing else. It is up to the teams to decide how and at what pace they play ! All you hear these days are referee's shouting "use it" at widely varying intervals. Let the teams play FFS. 🤷‍♀️

@@garymoore2535 So teams can play as slowly as they want, basically wasting time.

I must admit that I don't think this was Kat Roche's finest hour. Missing Marlie Packer's foul on the Welsh No 9 was pretty gross and she also missed at least a couple of high tackles. Mind you, reffing isn't easy and it's not something I'd want to do. Have to take the rough with the smooth.

A defender tapping/slapping the ball while in the 9's hands is deemed to be interfering with the playing of the ball away from the ruck, so is penalised. That is in effect ruled the same as "touching/playing the 9" before the ball has been lifted (unless the ref says/decides it is out or the 9 has had 5 seconds to play it).
However after the ball is lifted (or 5 seconds to play it has passed), the ball is "in play" and the player can be tackled by a player who comes from behind the hind foot or is bound in the ruck but supporting his own weight (not relying on players to keep him up).
Slapping/tapping the arm (or an ankle-tap or a destabilising shove) is in that case regarded as "a tackle action" and is allowed (if the defender is onside or is self-supporting) because the ball is in play.
The initial impression is very little difference between the two - that's why it is confusing. In that sense it is a bit like why a charge-down off the arm/hand is not an offence, but a knock-on is. They both involve the ball bouncing forward off the arm/hand, but the outcome is reffed differently.
the welsh 9 had the ball in both hands and had taken a step with one foot so ... Obviously Marlie knows the laws better than the commentary team... and just before England scored one of the Welsh defenders tried to do the same but sadly didn't affect the pass.
It may be a loophole but but the ref was spot on in this case.

Thank goodness the the commentator informed us that WOMEN are playing this Rugby Match. I'm really happy that Sara Orchard tell us at every opportunity that WOMEN are playing this game. Without her constant & condescending commentary I would be confused. Other than that. Well Done to both teams for giving us a good match.
