The result was in the bag before the ferns lined up the Haka…. I must say Barrett theron must be the best ref across all platforms, always spot on, funny, fair and knowledgeable. Well done Amy. Well done the Roses. Bring on the World Cup
Gotta love womens rugby & this Eng women's team is exceptional. Emiley Scarratt is a legend & so too is our Stacey Smilie Waaka. Eng the better should've won the WC but denied. It games-on! ..and this is what makes this competition exciting & nostalgic
Jess Breach has seriously improved, now a genuine defence as well as attack. Shame the men don't have an Alex Matthews equivalent. Looking forward to see a full Twickers for the WCF
I admire Jess Breach's attitude. Instead of just turning up as a fast winger with good feet, she works at weaknesses like tackling and catching high balls, and adds new skills - her chip and chase has been outstanding for Saracens, hopefully we'll see it for England soon too.
Good competitive game, though it got scrappy at the end. Mo Hunt was much better than last week, and Abby Dow was excellent. Holly Aitchison had a shocker, and some of her attempts at tackling were just embarrassing. Zoe Harrison looked so much better, even though she was only on for the last 10 minutes.
Yes, Holly Aitcheson didn't play well but was terrific in the 6 Nations and the WVX so I wouldn't drop her based on a 10 minute performance by Zoe Harrison. I would like to see Helena Rowland given a run out at 10 which, in my humble opinion is her best position.
@@stevemathews9535 know what you're saying but in 10 minutes Harrison showed what an exceptional 10 she is. Her strategic nous is quite clear and I for one would prefer to se her starting at 10. Loyalty is admirable but it doesn't win games.
Considering how much possession the Black Ferns had in this match (57%), the Red Roses managed to pull off an outstanding win against a clearly growing BF side. Considering how much NZ have improved since WXV last year, the Red Roses need to be very wary of them for both the coming WXV and next years RWC, particularly at the RWC, as the Black Ferns basically own that competition. Great game all in all, some quality rugby from both sides. Roll on WXV!
Abby Dow, what a babe, those runs of hers were so explosive. The game seemed a bit scrappy, some really silly mistakes from both sides, but still great to watch.
No doubt the Roses were the much better team for 3/4's of the match. There forwards are the queens of the rolling maul and I'm sure the BF coaching staff have a lot to work on. If the Roses stick to what they are dominant in, the BF's will be beaten in every match b4 & after the WRWC. The BF coaching group hav'nt done anything I can see that has addressed that issue since the only win they've had was the WRWC final. And that was at home! At home the Roses patriotic crowd will drown out the BF into submission. Mark my words. We have a very mobile pack but and so have the Roses. We have to get some big if not tall looses to contest the Roses lineouts. Which the Roses live off. BF scrums are holding there own, for now.But are 50/50 with securing and contesting crucial for the BF to at least disrupt the Roses from driving off there lineouts. Baker-Olsen is the key to our go forward ball which the looses must be in support to keep the moment and make the Roses commit to the breakdowns in order for our backs to get that mismatch out in the Roses last line of defence lineup. More mongrel needs to be inserted into there mind set with the ball in hand and must stay on there feet until then going to the ground is not an option unless there are more Roses trying to drag you down and leaving a thin nmber left out wide to defend against superior numbers and the target for the try is the goal posts, period.
Commentator's complaint's about allowing ball's to bounce, really don't inspire you about their knowledge of the game. It is impossible to get under every kick, the opposition look for space and unless you are a olympic sprinter your never going to get there. And once a rugby ball bounces you have no idea where it's going to go. As to Orchard's constant refrain that the Black Fern's like to run with the ball, newsflash all rugby player's like to run with the ball. I know she is a fan of every team except England, but don't keep parroting the same inane comment, it's embarrassing.
She is deeply annoying, she was equally annoying when she covered the London Premiership matches where it was clear that only Harlequins could do anything good.
A couple of soft tries given away by NZ (Dow & Hunt) but from NZ’s perspective the second half showed that England can be run off their feet if the BF can flick the switch and hold their passes.
Great Abby Wow try, but the coaches need to tell the players do not dump the ball, give it to the kicker. In this case, Holly, but at least give her a realistic chance. Holly's game was poor today, everyone has them, next one, maybe, her imperious best. Ist Ferns try, Scarrett kicks ahead. Why? If kicking for territory, hit touch, else do not kick. Katelyn Vahaakolo gathers from Holmes and kicks ahead. Sure you can never predict the balls trajectory but when have you ever see the Roses leave so many ball to bounce? Holmes, great chase and offload from Scarratt's tackle, then just poor tackling from Holly Aitchison. Opportunistic try, very well played, but all of Englands making! When seen from "behined the posts" angle, pass to Vahaakolo looks forward, but maybe that is just me. (U tube 1h46:40 to 1h46:42). Second BF try is classic BF play, fast along the line, coast to coast, pulling the D to shreads. Were the ferns better? No, they had chances and didn't finish, were the roses, yes as they won but not exactly convincing. England were poor, given previous results, are the BF closing, maybe, did they look like winning, no.
The BF try was from a forward pass, I was directly in line, everyone shouted 'forward' around me. Nonethless, you are quite corrrect about England's kicking game. Harrison is much more accurate and thoughtful about her kicking game, but has only recently regained her general form following her injury.
The Ferns may nor have played in 2 months but the Roses have only had 1 game in 5 months. Can commentators stop makiing excuses for their lack or preparation, if that is what it is!
I have to wonder why England let the ball bounce from high kicks! It happens once in a while in other games, but this game, it seemed to be normal. Not letting the ball bounce is rugby 101! So why? Margaret Alphonsi, during the 6 Nations kept asking for jeopardy for England, and with no disrespect to other teams, they did not get it, not even from France. I wonder that certain players were asked to allow the high ball to bounce, to provide jeopardy, allow the England defence to be tested. Crazy, right? Do not the Ferns try out stratergy prior to a major tournement? Why would John Mitchell not try the same, given he is a Kiwi? Letting the ball bounce gives jeopardy, as does defending narrow, as the Ferns love to play wide. Crazy, right?
35 01 ferns no 10 running back free kick leads with elbow direct to face of carson ..instant red card in my opinion or is it 1 rule for ferns 1 rule for others
I’m sorry, I love them both but I’d get rid of M packer and Jess, Marley makes too many mistakes and Jess is afraid of tackles, if you could have Abby Dow on both wings simultaneously, we would score a lot more.Alex Mathews would be my player of the match most of the time, Aldcroft and Galligan a close second. Kildunne is on a different level and Meg Jones is my favourite player.
@andrewwatkinson1548 Marley is the cement that keeps that team together. She may make mistakes but it's because she never stops trying to lead by example. Would rather have her drive and enthusiasm that gets all the girls going and accept a few mistakes than not have her leadership
I will rightly admit that the Jess express has completely knocked my earlier comment, she has been amazing. What a partnership with the Ellie. Can’t see anyone beating them. Go cow girls.
I do so wish they would stop messing around with the laws of rugby - it is fast becoming "mamby pamby" rugby and a majority are unable to follow these new "rules"? But, saying that I still love to watch women's rugby, especially England.
If they are gonna bring in new laws they should not allow teams to end games by just kicking ball anywhere off the pitch when the time is up cos to me it just deflates the game
Also scrums are mostly a waste of time cos the whole idea of scrum is to crush opponents either way but cos now it's pause set engage they might as well just have four person scrums meaning 8 in all...
