I you camp out in any of these places set up trips at doorways and entry points, throw some glass or junk around those spots. a 15 second warning is better then none. remember the 5 second 20' rule.
I'm not sure but ,if anyone else wants to discover natural survival shelters try Franaar Escape Death Formula (do a search on google )? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my mate got amazing success with it.
I like this type of video as a break from the usual guy in a chair or voice over photos or a table covered in gear or supplies. It's more realistic and feels like we are sharing the experience. What I'd like to say is that situations will vary and will probably change for any of us, so there is no absolute right or wrong action and your video as well as many of the comments provide tips and methods that one can combine or incorporate into their plans be them complex and long term or simpler and more fluid to immediate and on the fly. I wouldn't be surprised if you scouted out locations for people as a service since I know from experience as being in a military family, that people often never venture down certain roads or visit businesses that they have no interest in. I am mildly curious what spots I am not aware of and missing.
Thanks, glad you liked it. These types of formats are the most fun to film. I learn a lot and hopefully it helps to get other people out exploring their general AO
Dust and mold are slow killers no one is talking about. That's why old factory buildings are a big no from me. Old rundown houses and barns are a no also. You can't protect yourself nor a group with lung infections or disease. Broken windows means birds and possible bats are using it as a refuge too. Most places like that are also damp inside and mold grows fast. Very short term or emergency possible but longer than one overnight and you'll be sorry. Longterm is a death sentence 💀
For sure great points! Abandoned structures are more useful IMO as a cache site (if you can conceal it well) and for a quickie remain overnight and thats it.
Definitely no to the first sewing building. The homeless use those buildings and have communities there. You would be trespassing on their territory. They would likely kill you. Also I would never go anywhere downtown to hide. The train is a serious problem. Government may be using that railroad, either to transport people or material. What if the army was used to guard the train and tracks? They would detain you and ship you out
So for me I never had to shelter in the city for worst scenario. However, I would like to stay dry during the heavy rain or winter storm. Currently I do prioritize cold shower, consistant exercises, and using the environment for heat (e.g. using dumpster grease, tea light candle, or using plastic and a mylar liner) to adapt survival craft in progression. Because I mainly live in the city area it a good chance for me to use trade craft and communication to ask people to hunker in or to stay until the storm goes away.
I like the idea of exfiltrating out of an urban environment E/E in a large city environment would be tricky and meticulous. if I where young and training I would train like the entire world wanted me dead and was hunting me down, I believe this on the edge mindset would fine tune anyone in survival mode.
Yep it would be tricky depending on the situation and size of the city and the distance you have to travel to get out. I like the idea of using urban greenways, rail lines, drainage ditches and such to mask my movement.
In a real shtf survival situation, the gangs like crips, bloods, kkk, Hells angles, Bandidos etc will run the city. They have so many members that are ready to die for eachother and they will rule the cities. Im not telling you to join a gang, but to stay away from them. And try not to be alone, always go with a friend or someone who also has some kind of weapon on him/her.
great little series blitz, can't wait for the 3rd part. point's on the sniper's in a urban area ref human waste, cling film for solid's and liquid's in a 5ltr plastic jerry can or fuel can with a plastic funnel tied to the handle shove two large car sponge's into to soak up liquid and to help with the noise.also a loo block blue cube to control the smell.then deligate a tom to carry it out in there bergans. with the older industrial building's in northern Ireland and the former Yugoslavia there were some time's a void between floor for utility's water, electric air con etc of a couple of feet sometimes bit tight but it can be done.atb Russ.
Do you see the gangsign painted on the walls and windows of the large bldg behind you? You would need to be ready to face a large, well-armed gang with two large capacity pistols. Avoid gangsign! Both the creek and the house looked good for stealth camping. House is don't-wanter, will sell cheap.
Yeah there was a fair amount of tagging in that area. I had already reconed that site twice, once during the day and once at night to see if there was any human activity. Saw a couple druggies and that was it. During daylight I felt comfortable enough on the outside of the building, but I can tell you for sure that people were in that building while I was filming :D
if you do a factory or where house bug out be very aware of walking into rooms down stairs cases, bums or crack heads, hide under staircase's, remember they know every inch of their environment. hides how to work the shadow's
Very true, I filmed this video in Knoxville, a fairly small city where I can pretty much be sure that majority of spaces I explored didn't have people in them. However here in Nashville, its a totally different ballgame. Homeless everywhere so if the building is within range of local shelters, fast food sources and major highways you can count on running into people. But once you remove yourself from the Metro area a bit, homeless numbers decrease quite a bit.
I like the fireplace in the house . Does the house have a basement ? If so that would be my entry . And leave the boards up with one board lose for an escape . I would use the fireplace at night .
Unfortunately no basement, Fireplace is a nice touch, but I'm not sure about using it due to smell getting out and letting others know the house is occupied. Really depends on the environment.
I'm from Detroit when I was a kid I would explore abandoned houses and factory's looking to salvage something. I'll tell you better be packing a pistol going into some of these places weird dudes lurk in these buildings, many times I was jumped in those places and had to fight sometimes two or more people many times I got out by pure luck and just being fast on my feet.
I would love to explore Detroit, that place is on my list. But yes I can imagine it's very dangerous, I'm sure that local gangs use those sites as dead drops for drugs and whatever else.
5.11 COVRT backpack? If so, that's one of my absolute favorite backpacks. Superb grey man daypack that looks like a normal civilian pack but has loads of operational capability. I've got two :)
Yes, that's the Covrt18 pack. Great for urban EDC, used mine for 3 years before giving it to my nephew. The ONLY downside I can think of with that pack was the top pocket, the dividers and organization loops were always a bit loose which prevented me from carrying much of anything with weight in that pocket. Aside from that, damn great pack, A+
Yup, same issue here. I also have the Covrt sling pack and it has the same loose, floppy organization loops. Irritating. Still, the overall piece is so good that I'm willing to overlook it. Seems like that is the way overall with 5.11. Not perfect, but generally so generally good that I'll overlook the annoying junk.
BulvaiHammersson yep it's a minor issue is an otherwise great pack. as a work around I add some pouches to the interior of the large outer pocket with the Velcro panel inside. Stowed multi tool, flashlight etc.
unless you have the people to secure and hold, I don't suggest staying in abandoned building longer than a night. some locations are safer than others.
This video is for all those HATERS and DENYERS who despite all the documented evidence they insist in denying the detrimental impact Rambo movies had on the most vulnerable and impressionable minds...
I'm not sure what ended up happening to that area.. There was a couple farms there, stuck between a new major road construction and then that house I showed at the end. If I had to guess, urban sprawl will overtake the woods sooner or later.
Stepping anywhere on a property is Trespassing, not just inside a structure. Distrucrion of property is they only thing your not doing by not going in and if they seen you on the property and someone else damaged it..... well your the man now so hest ro stay away from things you don't pay taxes on.
What your showing people is very important in a E/E situation or general survival. You should do an actual urban bug out video. I believe a dog is essential in such a situation as an early warning. Because while you are shivering in a damp building in a corner any one or thing could happen up on you. also insects and lice, chigger's and other verman can tear you up.
An real bugout video with a over nighter is on the agenda, right after I do my INCH bag video. I'm heading up to DC for a 5 day trip on Thursday and I'm seriously contemplating doing a video that revolves around survival in an unfamiliar area with very little in the way of supplies. And having a dog is a huge asset, also can be a huge downside if the dogs are alerting their owners to your presence. Thanks for the input!
The Survival Outpost the best bugout plan is to get out of the cities before shtf there is massive wilderness in new mexico especialy the gila wilderness which turns into the apache kid wilderness that extends into arizona then you have the cibola wilderness colorado also has a lot of wilderness but the gila is the most awesome place i have been , javalina hogs mule deer elk turkey quale dove the streams have trout catfish bass carp in the gila river , numerous caves , even a beginner could easily survive
while looking at the sites are you looking to see what it would take to gain entry I.E Tools and entry equipment.. like the idea of the migration to and from multiple sites... looking forward to ep 3
The Survival Outpost Awesome!! If i ever get the time we have so many Ubrex sites here in NJ and Philly...maybe I'll shoot for spring. 1/2 the places i have seen or have been into with work would be hard to get back into for filming but easy enough if things went south... I/E Abandoned Subway stations. Pump rooms. plenty of secluded spaces to dash into for the night.. Good stuff .... always keeps the mind wandering.
I really love you good ole boys. Trespassing? Lol seriously you're all fucking Angels when you're being watched. Lol but seriously where are the men? When i was a lad in the 80's I remember men. Strong, tough, fixed shit, no worried about trespassing charges lol. Land of the free right
Thanks for the videos! Enjoying the series. Although you eventually made the point that you would not be looking at these sites for long-term habitation, that was not clear early on. You mention that the changes at the locations are a reason to keep intel current, but I would consider all of these areas to be too exposed and people magnets in long-term urban survival situations. Look for areas that provide shelter but are not easily discoverable.
Appreciate the support. It's really hard to say how that area would be in a total shtf type of situation. I drove past that house every day from work for two years so I was confident it was never disturbed. Now the large sewing factory was total no go for anything long term for even a small group I would think
SO PLEASED you understand the concept of splitting up your survival supplies into separate caches. I've been encouraging (and instructing) people on doing that for YEARS. Informative and very fun video. Hope it encourages people to get out and train like you said! Si vic pacem, para bellum!
What is this nonsense? A guy standing talking in front of random buildings? I skipped quickly through the video, but I couldn't find where he enters them??
You're confused, this must be your first day on the internet. You're looking for URBAN EXPLORATION videos. Those show people going into abandoned areas. Exploring with josh and the unknown camera man are 2 of my favorites in that genre. They aren't so squeamish about "trespassing" as this guy is. Legally speaking, if there's no fence and no sign saying no trespassing, it's difficult to prove in a court of law a criminal intent to trespass was present. (unsure about canadian or dutch laws though) Besides. He could always just say a rabid wolf was after him and he HAD to hide in the abandoned structure.
+Vincent Snijder Ah, enter another weak minded, conformist sheeple too insecure and unremarkable to exercise their imagination, creativity, sense of humor or perceive anything from a point of view other than their own. How boring. Makes me wonder: how did you ever arrive on this video? Were you thinking "improvised shelter" referred to methods for people too poor to afford a shirt to construct one out of natural and found materials? If this is your first week online, or if english is your third or fourth language, your inability to comprehend the situation is understandable. If not, I must assume you had some raging moment of butt hurt so you posted out of rash vengeance before considering what a fool you'd make of yourself. Either way, have a delightful time on the internet. You'll find you can learn just about ANYTHING. This would be a more satisfying and productive endeavor than communicating proverbially out of your buttocks and embarrassing yourself further. Be Seeing You
I'm not to thrilled about caching on abandoned property as anyone can come along and find your stash. I'd look for storm drains that have ledges in them where items can be placed above the water line. Also, at the municipality utility electrical cabinets, assuming the electricity is not coming back anytime soon. There is always room for small items. Never go into manholes as there may be dangerous gas build up inside those holes. Great video!
+The Survival Outpost heck yeah it looked like a cool site and that under contruction road into the wildnerness had to be eerie since its a road with no cars and not traveled on
Always the problem with checking out other buildings, others have the same idea...do you work with them? Will they allow you to work with them? Good videos so far and good points to ponder.
+chadlpnemt Exactly and the same point is true about any kind of resource in a post SHTF. Shelter, fuel, food, etc will be in high demand. Regarding others...that could be tricky. Check out shtfschool.com. Author survived 1 year in Sarajevo under siege.
Just BEING on the land is trespassing! If I was checking on any of my properties and caught you scoping them out, I would hold you at GUNPOINT until the police arrive.
+Bruce Forster Not sure what the laws are where you are, but here in MI they want us to shoot if you have to take your gun and point it at someone. otherwise its called Brandishing a weapon and that's Illegal here
Oregon has a watered down version of the Castle Defense. You might be right about outside, but if an intruder were un my HOME, I CAN hold them at gunpoint. That being said, this is a situation I PRAY TO GOD I never have to put to the test!!!
I see videos like this ALL the time! Almost NEVER does anyone address the FACT that by doing some these things you are violating other people's private property rights AND the law! It is very irresponsible, and I feel this contributes to prepping having a bad rap-sometimes deserved.
my humble opinion: stay away from buildings, they are shit magnets. make camp 300+ yds away, you have a tarp. don't put caches in buildings, unless you want others to find them. the only good thing about buildings is: you can hide in the basement from artillery/mortar/tank fire. but that's a whole different matter. it's probably not that important in a localized civil unrest situation or a Kathrina-like situation, but just look at full-scale war scenario like in the eastern Ukraine… buildings attract people, and not only the good fellas! Apart from that, I like your videos, keep 'em coming! ATB Markus
+couchcamper You'd be surprised how many people simply wont bother with run down buildings, especially if they look condemned. Katrina was different because those buildings were mostly all recently inhabited and likely to have supplies in them. That old steel mill for instance would be PERFECT for a shelter as it would be pretty damn easy to secure or at least secure enough for you to get out of there undetected. That second building really just needed some shingles ripped off and maybe a hole in the roof and it would be good for a cache location. Like you could hide a cache under the deck or maybe under the floor boards. Caches dont have to be massive. It could be just a 50 cal ammo can with a knife, a change of socks, a can or two of food, a map of the area, a button compass, and maybe a box of ammo. So, including the ammo can, you have what, maybe $50 into the cache? Having something that you can easily check on/ replace supplies like that is great and worth that small bit of cash IMHO.
One other thought: it might be useful for people considering this to study videos by urban explorers and study how they gain ingress and egress without being spotted. Also, several have good gear videos. It can also give you an idea of what resources might lay inside of a site you reconed without having to actually trespass yourself.
+Wasteland Seven You can gain much knowledge for a specific location without ever having to break down the door to explore further. I've been into urban exploring (urbex) for years so I know all the little tricks to getting in and out discreetly.
And too you can learn by watching videos from urban warfare like Syria, Chechnya, etc. Thought about doing a challenge video, posting a location with a sat map and then discussing best way in and out. Thanks for the idea :)
Good stuff. My general philosophy on urban hide sites is go where they ain't. (looters that is) If you think about it, second phase looters (who finally figured out consumer electronics are no good without electricity) want a few specific things, fuel, tobacco, booze, drugs, food, possibly clothing, guns, sexual victims, and pornography). Eventually they'll want water, but, at the start the other things will come first. They will search for those things in the most likely spots such as pharmacies, apartment houses, suburbs, fleeing refugees, etc. will be the most likely targets. Think of it this way, are looters more likely to loot a liquor store or a Hallmark store? Obviously an abandoned factory is not likely to have much in the way of drugs/booze/women etc. Also, with the huge number of refugees stuck on the proverbial 100 mile traffic jam, that is going to be the biggest target rich environment for the criminals. Another thing to keep in mind is that criminals are not particularly brave. They're always going to follow the path of least resistance. You can turn this to your advantage by hanging out in thickets, behind rose/blueberry/cactus plants that act as natural barbed wire. Anything that's inconvenient for the perp is likely to cause them to move on. Especially if they don't know for sure you're there. Excellent series so far. I think people underestimate the potential for hiding/surviving in cityscapes.
+Wasteland Seven Great points, criminals do look for the path of least resistance and they are looking to get what they need from the masses who are vulnerable. Stay tuned for Episode #3!
thanks for the info. Time to get ready to defend against the terrorist that are about to be shoved down our throats through Obama's immigration plan to destroy our great nation. Hurry and post the next video because I am sharing them with like-minded guys I know as we prepare.

Even so with something like this, You gotta wonder how many people have the same idea.
Another great one 👌. Thank you!.
It reminds me of colony 1 on tv.
It totally is that building. I remember they did a part where a guy on a boat came down that canal and did some bartering.
I think the use of the triangle shape billboard have been sleeped on as a useful shelter. With some work obviously.
Ah sleeping up high not a bad idea. But you only have one way out. Probably not bad for a single night

It’s 2023 and I’m just finding this video. A building like this would need two 12 man security teams. Inner wall and outside walls.
Yes its a massive structure with a basement.
@@TheSurvivalOutpost Just a heads up, always find a building with a basement. Tanks and heavy equipment can’t drive through the structure

+The Survival Outpost What camera gear do you use?
+SHTFranken Nothing fancy, just a used and abused Canon AW100 and $15 tripod.
while looking at the sites are you looking to see what it would take to gain entry I.E Tools and entry equipment.. like the idea of the migration to and from multiple sites... looking forward to ep 3
+Prepping2endure Yes all of the above, EP 3 will be a full breakdown and demo of my tools
The Survival Outpost
Awesome!!
+Prepping2endure I can only imagine, I bet your area is a treasure trove of great sites to explore. Keep me informed!
Cool video. Thanks for the tips :)
- Martin
+NorwegianWoods Glad you liked it!
I really love you good ole boys. Trespassing? Lol seriously you're all fucking Angels when you're being watched. Lol but seriously where are the men? When i was a lad in the 80's I remember men. Strong, tough, fixed shit, no worried about trespassing charges lol. Land of the free right
I guess I'm pretty extreme, sitting next to that No Trepassing sign lol.
Excellent vid. Plan on checking out more of yours.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it, I had a good time planning and filming this episode
Great video.
Thanks for the support!
Now the large sewing factory was total no go for anything long term for even a small group I would think
gang territories is the last place I would. consider safe
If its cool to you...Its cool to them.
SO PLEASED you understand the concept of splitting up your survival supplies into separate caches.
I've been encouraging (and instructing) people on doing that for YEARS.
Informative and very fun video.
Hope it encourages people to get out and train like you said!
Si vic pacem, para bellum!
Glad you liked it. I follow the old rule: 1 is none and 2 is 1. Don't have one single point of failure :)
What is this nonsense? A guy standing talking in front of random buildings? I skipped quickly through the video, but I couldn't find where he enters them??
I'm not a big fan of recording myself breaking the law :D
+The Survival Outpost Perhaps "Dutch" is an acromyn for:
Dumb
Uneducated
Touchy
Cantankerous
Hothead
?
You're confused, this must be your first day on the internet.
You're looking for
URBAN EXPLORATION
videos.
(unsure about canadian or dutch laws though)
Besides. He could always just say a rabid wolf was after him and he HAD to hide in the abandoned structure.
Dutch is not an acronym at all. It refers to a citizen of The Netherlands.
Now who is dumb and uneducated here??
+Vincent Snijder Ah, enter another weak minded, conformist sheeple too insecure and unremarkable to exercise their imagination, creativity, sense of humor or perceive anything from a point of view other than their own.
How boring.
Makes me wonder:
how did you ever arrive on this video?
Be Seeing You
13:07
something moving at behind the tree in the right. what is that?
+Aap Pandriana Can't tell but I see it. Probably a tanker pulling into the BP delivery point.
Bigfoot
Lock pick is a crow bar.
It must be private property. I guess in an SHTF scenario, that wouldn't matter. Just something to consider.
+Debora Tessman-Mc Kenna Always something to keep in mind.
+Admiral Preparedness Great ideas, the storm drains make good sense. Thanks for watching!
That first one reminded me of terminus
+Barry J It's a cool looking building eh?
+The Survival Outpost heck yeah it looked like a cool site and that under contruction road into the wildnerness had to be eerie since its a road with no cars and not traveled on
I had a fun time exploring and filming to be sure. It was cool to find those spots right in the city that you never would notice.
Good vid. Thanks for your no nonsense approach. Good, practical info.
Great tips I am Subbing and a Thumbs up!!!
+Urban Ranger Thanks for the sub!
+Bruce Forster Amen to that
I see videos like this ALL the time! Almost NEVER does anyone address the FACT that by doing some these things you are violating other people's private property rights AND the law! It is very irresponsible, and I feel this contributes to prepping having a bad rap-sometimes deserved.
You should probably stop watching ALL those illegal videos ALL the time than.
Trespassing on private property.
Breaking & entering.
Homeless, drugged up people.
Give me a Camo Tarp and heavy Brush to hide in....
Get yer own basher!!
Exactly. A building like that will fill up pretty quick.
was that a garden at the 1:20 mark?
+A.L. Stoots Yep, the local community has a co op garden going on the other side of the facility
My wife stops by there a lot in the summertime
my humble opinion: stay away from buildings, they are shit magnets. make camp 300+ yds away, you have a tarp. don't put caches in buildings, unless you want others to find them. the only good thing about buildings is: you can hide in the basement from artillery/mortar/tank fire. but that's a whole different matter. it's probably not that important in a localized civil unrest situation or a Kathrina-like situation, but just look at full-scale war scenario like in the eastern Ukraine… buildings attract people, and not only the good fellas!
I live a half mile from that building
Youd have to be truly desparate to even touch a collapsed factory that most likely shut down years prior to this.
The Survival Outpost Cool beans. However, everyone else might not have your experience, so maybe my comment will help them. :)
And too you can learn by watching videos from urban warfare like Syria, Chechnya, etc.
Thought about doing a challenge video, posting a location with a sat map and then discussing best way in and out. Thanks for the idea :)
The Survival Outpost
Excellent idea! Glad I was able to help in a small way. :)
Good stuff. My general philosophy on urban hide sites is go where they ain't. (looters that is)
If you think about it, second phase looters (who finally figured out consumer electronics are no good without electricity) want a few specific things, fuel, tobacco, booze, drugs, food, possibly clothing, guns, sexual victims, and pornography).
+Sonny Phillips Have no fear, I'm posting the next one very soon!
Excellent man. Very important observation about the relative speed with which the status of a location can change, eg. be occupied.
