Really like the crazy luck occasionally. It has a great app implementation. The dice rolling is pages flipping randomly.
To make the Elder Sign better with game play, add more theme and more challenging you can purchase Gates of Arkham and Unseen Forces. You can combine Unseen Forces with the base game and unofficially combine Gates of Arkham with the base game (works really well) and Unseen forces. All the other expansions are "stand alone", using the Gates of Arkham system so you don't need them. However if you're not into the theme , dice chucking, yahtzee style gaming, then there's no need to go any further with the expansions.
Believe me, Unseen Forces and Gates of Arkham are totally worth it. They make the game absolutely awesome. The base game is too easy and boring.

There are a couple of small expansions for the baee game... but the REAL expansions start with Gates of Arkham...where they actually change some significant game play elements to make the game "harder". The small expansions are "okay"... one adds blessed and cursed dice... one adds cards for going insane and death..
Gates of Arkham really feels like Arkham Horror mini. Great Expansion.

Gates of arkham is essentially a new game mode really. As well as any of the "omens" expansions, each one completely changes the game. Unseen forces minimally influences all other expansions, its best used in the base game if you're only interested in the base game

Rob, you should try playing sunless skies or sunless seas. It uses dice roll to resolve skill check and has a Cthulhu kind of theme
