  • Canadian Pacific 2816, also known as "The Empress," is a preserved, fully-operational class "H-1b" 4-6-4 wheel layout Hudson-type steam locomotive originally built by the Montreal Locomotive Works ( MLW ) in December 1930 for the Canadian Pacific Railway ( CPR ).
It is the only non-streamlined H1 Hudson to have survived into preservation.
The Empress is currently touring across North America on Canadian Pacific & Kansas City Southern trackage between Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Mexico City on the "Final Spike Anniversary Steam Tour. This will be a 9,000-mile trip to Mexico City and back in commemoration of the 154th anniversary of the "Last Spike" driven into the tracks at Promontory Summit in Utah on May 10th, 1869 - the meeting point of both ends of track connecting the East and West Coasts of the United States. There, a golden railroad spike was tapped into position with a silver hammer, officially marking the completion of the massive project and start of service on the Transcontinental Railroad.
Thank you for watching the video, and I hope you enjoyed it!
