The video does not include the important and necessary exercises, vocabulary lists, indices, or grammatical explanations (all of which are critical to make any use of the text) found in the complete book Familia Romana, which is by far the best instrument ever designed to teach the Latin language. The main purpose of this recording is to students understand correct pronunciation of Latin, and is intended for educational use only. This recording is unique in that it preserves all long and short vowels and syllables, as well as the correct scansion and rhythm of the phrase, exactly as encountered in Ancient Roman poetry. It represents one of the most accurate interpretations of the pronunciation of Classical Latin (roughly 100 B.C. to 200 A.D.).
When using these videos, pause after each phrase, and repeat after the recording. Try to emulate what you hear as exactly as possible: clearly pronounce the long and short vowels, the long and short syllables, and follow the rhythm and the melody of the phrase just like music. Note the elision or mixing of vowels between words, a vital part of the pronunciation of Latin and all the Romance languages. The result will be an exceedingly natural pronunciation that will permit you to understand intuitively the scansion of Latin poetry, and to speak Latin with native-style fluency.

Amazing work you two! Keep it coming. It still amazes me how much similarity there is between Spanish and Latin. Although knowing Italian has helped me with Latin. Ditto a bit of Portiguese (formosa).
I just begun reading this and found myself amazed by how easy it was to understand it, even though I don't speak Latin! (I'm a native spanish speaker so I guess that explains it). Wonderful job, makes me love Latin more and more.
Indeed. Listening to Luke and Irene speak/enunciate Classical Latin reminds me a lot of Spanish. Especially Irene. Irene sounds like a Mexican lady that I know.
Basic conversational Latin is easy for us Spanish speakers.
Take the following as an example:
Hispania non est in Asia sed in Europa.
España no está en Asia sino en Europa.
Tam pulchra es
Estás tan bonita/hermosa
Lavabo meas manus inter innocentes.
Lavaré mis manos entre los inocentes.
Sol et luna semper te salutant.
El sol y la luna siempre te saludan.
Etc.
@@guillermorivas7819Great examples, but keep in mind Spanish “sino” is not cognate with Latin “sed”, despite being used the same way.

Firstly, thank you for these very thoughtful recordings! I have enjoyed listening to them and have found them very useful. Secondly, I have been learning Latin for a couple of weeks now and was wondering if you had any tips and/or suggestions (besides using LLPSI) for an absolute beginner like myself trying to get a good grasp on the language. My main goal in learning Latin is to better understand the lives of the ancient Romans, especially how they spoke, so any tips you have would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly I would love to hear what Latin would sound like in different (ancient) accents, both native and non-native (e.g Latin spoken by a Greek). Will the Latin and Greek pronunciation spreadsheets get any more work done?

@@chideraalexanderdex547 , I essentially reposted what you wrote in Latin into Spanish, agreed to it as I have read it myself. Spanish is very close to Latin in many ways. It often amazes me how some people try to downplay Spanish's strong Latin heritage. I just let the language speak for itself, there is strong mutual intelligibility between Spanish and Latin as long as the Latin stays basic and pronounced like Luke/Irene speak it.
Take the following as examples:
Hispania non est in Asia sed in Europa.
España no está en Asia sino en Europa.
Quas rosas?
Cuáles rosas?
Tam pulchra es
Estás tan bonita (temporary feature of the person, dress/makeup)
Eres tan bonita (permanent feature of the person)
Lavabo meas manus inter innocentes.
Lavaré mis manos entre los inocentes.
Sol et luna semper te salutant.
El sol y la luna siempre te saludan.
Etc.
It should be "hunc capitulum" because hunc agrees with capitulum and rīdīculum. They are all in the 2nd declension neuter accusative.

Why do you read ae instead of e... Aemiliae should be read emilie. Rosae, rose, etc. Also, there is too much emphasis on long vowels and the accent of some words is very strange as well as the tonic accent of some sentences in general. For example: Émilia léta rosas àccipit..et fílie sue oscúlum dat.
Aimilia ist richtig, ae wird erst im späteren Latein ( auch Kirchenlatein) als e gesprochen.
There is no point in using ecclesiastical pronunciation here. We’re following a “real” ancient family, therefore the reading is done in restored classical pronunciation.
E instead of ae? How rustic, how vulgar
