Sony did buy them to save them. Jim Ryan wanted their help and insight on all these live service games he was developing. Now that the majority of them have been canceled this proved to be one of the worst acquisitions in gaming history. Also a major reason why we’re not getting any new games from big studios like Naughty Dog this gen because they were talked into working on a live service game they probably had no interest in making and then it ended up getting scrapped anyways
You're a commentor on youtube, you saying this now has no benefit, maybe you should have joined sony earlier or became a games journalis/ youtuber at the time and warned everyone about this.
so basically Sony bought them for 3.4 billion dollars just for then to fail and be a support studio, bungie's CEO tricked Sony to pay almost 4 billions for a support studio even i wouldn't make that mistake
The players are not the only side of reality. There's also the company. The players play the game. A company is to make money. No money = no game = What players feel or believe does not matter when no money is being made. A part of player end is to spend money. That's reality.

It had a lot of potential, has gorgeous locations and great gunplay but its weakness has always been the mission structure every activity no matter what has you hacking a door, standing in a circle over and over until you finally reach a generic looking bullet sponge boss
PLEASE READ THIS - Bungie is a privately held company. It is owned by a number of shareholders who own the shares in the Company. When Sony acquires Bungie, it buys the shares held by the Shareholders and pays them, not Bungie the company, for their shares and Sony now owns those shares. As for the tag of $3.7 Billion, that is the assumed value of the deal. This includes cash, equity, stock options, etc. granted under the deal to shareholders and employees who were made offers to retain them under Sony. The valuation usually also consists of a major chunk of Sony shares that would have been offered in trades as well. Getting paid in cash upfront usually isn't the best tax or liquidity option.
Many of us knew this would happen as soon as the M&A sprees ramped up. Bobby Kotick, like Bungie's executives, were brought on as roll-up specialists--designed to become "moats" (in the Warren Buffett lingo) or part of an oligopoly or monopoly in exchange for heavy bonuses from investors/the boards of their companies if they delivered.
I feel like it makes no sense for Sony to stop making destiny 2 content and also the sequel. Why not just get rid of pete and higher Luke back to run it if he has the passion that the people say he does. To give up on something that is profitable makes no sense.
so apparently another dev from the studio came out and said destiny 3 never went into development jason shrier confirmed that it wasn't in development. otherwise it's a shitty situation for them
I used to play destiny up until i realized how much of a waste of time it is. Most games now don't value you as a costumer and only care about how many seconds the in game store is down.
I won't go to Sony, but I let my gamepass expire a week ago. I'm sorry sir but you're being dishonest, do not forget the new price increase that they aren't even supposed to do due to the deal made to aquire Activision.
Because the anger set in with fans. They killed the player base, and they only had a couple expansions people were happy with. Bungie had too big of a team. The amount of money wasn't enough to keep the company around. Live service games dont work for massive teams. Expectations are too high for them too. This isn't fortnite.
Gotta have their paint class, gym, free lunch, knitting, meditation, monthly party, comp on meals, ce credit events. Bungie been over spending for awhile.

If I'm correct, the main reason Destiny 2 was made was to overhaul the existing system plus give existing gamers a reason to buy the game again. I spent a lot of time on Destiny and Destiny 2. However, the price of the expansions were nuts.
Destiny 2 codebase probably can't handle all the content without degrading performance. It is one reason why they've "vaulted" older content in the past.

Sony thought they were buying the makers of golden age of Halo, but got a husk of a studio instead after leaving Microsoft
He did the controller thing again 😂
Wait what controller?!?! 😱
Yeah 🤣
So glad Microsoft let this stupid company go their own way.
Nice job on the bench press milestone. Keep it up💪👍
I’m confused. I cannot be the only one who knew bungie was not doing well and sony was pretty much “saving” them? There is no way we are surprised about this?
Sony did buy them to save them. Jim Ryan wanted their help and insight on all these live service games he was developing. Now that the majority of them have been canceled this proved to be one of the worst acquisitions in gaming history. Also a major reason why we’re not getting any new games from big studios like Naughty Dog this gen because they were talked into working on a live service game they probably had no interest in making and then it ended up getting scrapped anyways
You're a commentor on youtube, you saying this now has no benefit, maybe you should have joined sony earlier or became a games journalis/ youtuber at the time and warned everyone about this.
@Pswayze23, aren't you doing the same thing right now, lol
@@Pswayze23 🤣
@@jacobross735 well said.
Sony bought a name thinking it was talent.
so basically Sony bought them for 3.4 billion dollars just for then to fail and be a support studio, bungie's CEO tricked Sony to pay almost 4 billions for a support studio
even i wouldn't make that mistake
The fact that Microsoft seen through it and Sony didn’t is even more wild because we all know Microsoft love fisting themselves
The players are not the only side of reality. There's also the company. The players play the game. A company is to make money. No money = no game = What players feel or believe does not matter when no money is being made. A part of player end is to spend money. That's reality.
Don’t def got scammed and lost over billion how much money do you think Sony has had to spend to keep the studio a float a massive amount of money people keep missing this point Sony has wasted well over 4 billion dollars at this point with failing sales
I never understood what anyone liked about Destiny. It felt always incredibly generic to me.
It had a lot of potential, has gorgeous locations and great gunplay but its weakness has always been the mission structure every activity no matter what has you hacking a door, standing in a circle over and over until you finally reach a generic looking bullet sponge boss
Yeah I'm not losing any sleep over sony getting ripped off. Fuck em
Nice on hittin your bench goal . I hit my goal earlier this year as well. Keep up the good work.
Remember, Playstation is #3
Sony is dumb not Bungie Sony overpaid for this shit to to do something against Activision,🤣🤣🤣🤣
I feel like it makes no sense for Sony to stop making destiny 2 content and also the sequel. Why not just get rid of pete and higher Luke back to run it if he has the passion that the people say he does. To give up on something that is profitable makes no sense.
so apparently another dev from the studio came out and said destiny 3 never went into development jason shrier confirmed that it wasn't in development. otherwise it's a shitty situation for them
Bungie is woke and so is Wony.
I used to play destiny up until i realized how much of a waste of time it is. Most games now don't value you as a costumer and only care about how many seconds the in game store is down.
😂😂😂😂 "SUBSCRIBE TO GAMEPASS"!!!! XBOX WONT DO THIS TO U PONIES!!!
xbox closed tango gameworks... no successful studio is safe
I won't go to Sony, but I let my gamepass expire a week ago. I'm sorry sir but you're being dishonest, do not forget the new price increase that they aren't even supposed to do due to the deal made to aquire Activision.
@@christianedwards9025 If You Don’t See Value In Gamespass I’m Afraid That’s On You 🤷
Yea pay for a bunch of games i already own def, i love renting games ill never get too and that are mediocre as well
People should opt into PC gaming and Nintendo at this point.
Sony's initial mistake was thinking that live service games is what us gamers want.
This was predictable ever since the whole vaulting content people paid for happened.
Feel bad for the hardworking devs and the fans of Destiny. Thanks for the Halo 3 memories
Because the anger set in with fans. They killed the player base, and they only had a couple expansions people were happy with. Bungie had too big of a team. The amount of money wasn't enough to keep the company around. Live service games dont work for massive teams. Expectations are too high for them too. This isn't fortnite.
Whoever Audited Bungie books need to be investigated. They're so bad
Gotta have their paint class, gym, free lunch, knitting, meditation, monthly party, comp on meals, ce credit events. Bungie been over spending for awhile.
@@krazyd0nut404 100 000 sq foot office. A lot of unnecessary expenses 😕
Don't worry SONY will make it back by increasing psplus again
Ahh ok so when it happens to Playstation it's a scam, illegal. I see but when it happens to another console maker then it's a celebration right?
my brother in christ this is like your third video on different sides of the fence in 24 hours 😭😭😭
😂😂😂
There are many Destiny fans out there and they are going to be really angry about this news of Destiny 3 getting shut down. such legendary game.
Legend, indeed! Nothing more.
I never understood the destiny community. I never really liked it. The way it's all buy this and buy this and buy this is crazy to me. Games stayed out for far to long with out the next game.
@@hayden1990lmjm Alot of them are a fan of Co-op PVE missions community carry the biggest community. and they are not that big but large enough to have some consistency.
80% of them left ages ago so many people saying that their clans are dead or only have a handful of people left.
A legendary scam more like with stupid players
Ponies still crying I see 😂😂
The money is in the software. So Bungie being in this position is a big deal for PlayStation considering it cost them billions to acquire Bungie.
Maybe sony should of look more at bungies financials before guying them. Microsoft was also considering buy them and had 0 issues looking into them so where is sonys excuse. Like if sony felt pressure to get a deal quickly post ABK deal that is also on sony for deciding to rush
Im actually happy that this happened, Bungie fumbled d2 and fucked it and sony being dicks
I never understood why make a sequel to a live service game especially when the first game was still popular and active
Damn wish I had billions to get scammed out of😢 I guess Microsoft dodged a bullet😱
DreamcastGuy tomorrow: "turns out Bungie was secretly working with Microsoft and Nintendo behind the scenes"
