I absolutely love our Rainbow Rainmate IL. This little thing will fill a large area (it covers our 1200sq ft house) with the essential oil scent or scents of your choice. It is NOT a diffuser, but rather pulls air in and infuses it with the smell via a rain like method then pushes it back out. It does better than any glade plug-in or similar type of air freshener. We discovered it when we were at a friend's house who uses one in the room where his cat litter boxes are - were were amazed that you couldn't smell the litter boxes. We use it anytime we're having company over or anytime we're cooking to eliminate kitchen odors from food. It really is an awesome product and one I'd recommend for anyone!

I just got a free one when I hosted a demo. It works great to make the house smell fresh. The only thing is that I wish that there was an opening to put the oil in without removing the cover.
Free is always good! Yeah, that would be nice if they had an opening for the oil.
Thank you for your video description of the rainbow rainmate! I had my nephew and his wife give this to me as they weren’t using it and weren’t going to the model they gave me is the Rainmate IL. When I search for videos describing how to properly use it, yours came up in the first two or three and I just appreciate the way you described it the way you demoed it and I’ve already begun using it today and it is dramatically changing (in a positive way!) the fragrance of our kitchen, and other areas of our home!🙂 I also found a link in the comments for the better quality oils, as well as have pursued some water-based fragrances. 👍🏻 Thanks again & God bless you & your family.

I had someone come to my house today and did the Rainbow vacuum demo. I told them no can't afford to pay $3K plus for a vacuum but they still gave me this air purifier.
Nice! Sometimes they pop up for sell on Amazon but in recent years it seems the ONLY way to get one is to listen to the sales pitch.

Just got one for free, it’s actually really nice and works great! You let someone come demo the rainbow and you take a picture with the rain mate to post on Facebook and they give you the rainmate for free, doesn’t matter if you buy the rainbow vacuum or not!

I received my free one as well, but there's always a catch. If you're not employed you don't qualify.

@@tillydiaz8775 back when I got mine it was free, a friend had a rep come over and demo a vac for us. We watched the demo, got this free and never heard from them again. Literally all we did was let him demo the cleaner.
I’ve had my rainbow for 14 years and I love it to this day! Especially now since we have covid19... i have the deodorizer running almost every day.
But I have really bad allergies and having a rainbow/rain mate really help improve the air quality in our home.
We "won" one at a Camping RV show for hosting the rep in house for a demo. It looks cool, the essential oils are cool when you use them (not included). It is a freebe to get them in the door to show you the whole house cleaner. Our cats love watching the water spin around and the water drops. It is loud but not overly distracting unless you live in a very quiet home all the time.

I love this. I used this in my room together with air purifier. I use eucalyptus essential oil during cold weather. The best humidifier. I tried many humidifier but this is the best.
My friend sold me her rainbow for 80$ it came with many accessories including 2 of these. I'm so please to have them. I have been using them to clean the air in my house after workers leave from renovating my home. 😊😊

I just found one of these in a house my family purchased it took my a few minutes to figure out what it was. I googled the serial numbers etc and found an image and I was like "OH RAINBOW," (I remember the vacuum cleaners) I had figured the R logo stood for Remington. I was hoping it would clean the air and was wondering how to clean the filter (was thinking I was going to have to take it apart.) Thank you for the review. I like the whirrrrr noise of it. I used to sleep to a white noise machine but I threw it out when I noticed it was getting very hot.

People with dogs never think their houses stink, but they always smell like a barnyard. People adapt to almost any smell after they are exposed to it for a few hours.
This is true. You only really know how your own house smells if you go away for a week or two and then come home. Suddenly you realize your house does have a specific scent!

I HAD THE VACUM BACK ON THE WEST COAST I HAD TO LEAVE ALL MY BELONGING AN START OVER. I NEVER GOT ANOTHER WAS TO SPENDY FOR ME NOW. WE HAD SOMETHING LIKE IT BUT IT BEEN 20 YRS NOW GREAT VACUM
Supposed to use water based essentials, I tried a few oil based and citrus ones like lemon and orange discolored the plastic bowl. The actual rainbow ones are faint and not worth it either. The amount needed to not have to babysit it cause it to foam too much even in the vacuum. just my experience

To anyone planning to buy the rainbow vaccuum, it is very expensive... there is another vacuum with the almost the same as the rainbow functions.. much cheaper about 1/4 of the rainbow vaccuum's price.. check Karcher vacuum D6 model. It has both hepa and water filtration and purifies the air like the rainbow vacuum.

I seriously wonder if mine is broken bc the one from the demo made my house smell AMAZING! I bought mine new and it doesn’t make my house smell good or take away food odors. My house is new and I clean daily so it’s not a smelly environment but this rainmate isn’t doing what the demo model did 😢

Still love it, though we don't use it as much as we used to. Mostly use it now when we're having guest over or specific times when we want to "freshen up" the house. We just used high quality scented oils - we didn't get them from rainbow, though some people say if you use it daily you have to be careful about the oils as they can affect the machine. We haven't had any issues, but we have never used it 24/7 - we just pull it out for specific times.

Mine doesn't have an option to turn the light off - if it's running, the light is on.

Not sure if I'll be able to, but I'll put it on my ever growing list. :-) It's not quiet - I will say that. But it's not excruciatingly loud to me - but I guess each person has different tolerances for certain sounds. But yeah, I wouldn't have it running while I'm watching a movie or something. But if we have a party at our house and it's running, it's just background.
There is people selling it as a air purifier but it's not, we can only classify it as humidifier just to give a smell to the air not to clean it there is a big difference here.
Is it ok to use essential oils verses the fragrance scents that rainbow sells for them?
I think rainmate would say no, but we've used them. Definitely better with high quality ones. And as some have pointed out it could in the long term effect the machine, but we haven't had any issues.

I just started using a Rainbow Rainmate IL, and whenever it's on, there's this plastic smell that it gives off. Is this normal for it starting off, or is there some way to get rid of it?
That's odd. I don't recall ours having any kind of plastic smell even from day one. I'd give it a week or so and if it continues, contact them about a replacement.

Hi. Do you used tap water or distilled water?
We've mostly used tap water, but if you're using it regularly distilled water would probably be best as tap water will start to leave calcium deposits over time. We don't run this constantly ourselves these days but rather break it out for specific occasions so we do just use tap water mostly.
You mentioned that before you put the oils in the Rainmate, the air smells like rain. Can I use it without fragrance to freshen a room? I do not want to use any fragrance.
Good question. I honestly haven't used it like that, at least not for an extended amount of time. Standing close to the device and with no oils added, it does have a rain-ish aroma, but I don't know if that's gonna be strong enough to fill a room with the literal "smell of rain" - but it will work as an air purifier because it's still pulling air in forcing it through the "rain" inside the rainmate before pumping the air back out. So it should still "freshen" the air in the room, but I'm thinking it won't add a detectable smell.

I don't know of anywhere to get parts or if they even sale parts outside of buying the whole unit.

No - it's not an air filtration system or air cleaner. You can run it for several hours and the water is still clean. It is not meant to filter dust or anything like that.

Someone can smoke right next to this thing and you will never ever smell it. So the water does not appear dirty but it does filter and trap with water. I used to sell these

Someone just gave me theirs second hand. I had to use pliers to take the fan off to clean but spent alot of time cleaning it. Seems to be running well now. But I wonder how much air are you supposed to feel coming out of the side, doesnt seem strong at all, in fact barely perceptible on my hand. Thanks!
It's not extremely strong - about like a clean air filter - because the air isn't being "blown" out it's being pulled in and then naturally forced out.

I'm trying to find out reasons why my rainmate is so noisy it drowns out everything what can I do about it?
I don't know. Ours is...well...not super noisy, but not super quiet either.
I assume this also moisturises the air? I bought it because of that because I live in Finland and we have cold winters and the indoor air becomes dry because of heating and the outdoor air is dry as well.
Emilia, yes it does. We've had 4 of them for about 8 years and still use them.
That's not it's primary purpose but is likely a byproduct of what it does since it is passing air through the water - I would guess not quite as effective as a vaporizer but should have some effect.

It's very strange. Sometimes you can buy them on Amazon (we did) and sometimes you can't. Recently it seems they've been harder to find on Amazon. You can check the rainmate website - they also have a super large one of these they sell - but it seems sometimes they are available there and sometimes not as well. It's very frustrating...

What’s in the oils they sell? Are they natural?
I have no idea - we've never used their oils. We didn't get ours from Rainmate themselves as it seems many people have - we got ours from Amazon. And we have used various oils which we also bought on Amazon.

How many drops of essential oil do you use?
It varies... Depending on the potency of the essential oil and how strong we want it to be. Sometimes 3 drops, sometimes 5-7...
you cant use oils in these it breaks down the plastic! you have to use water based scents

As the owner of one. This thing does nothing but get the Rainbow vacuum salesperson into your home. If you think this "purifies" the air, you've already been scammed.
I don't think it does much to purify the air, but as an air freshener to make the air smell good, nothing is as fast or effective! And I've never seen or heard from a Rainbow vacuum salesperson - my guess is they might use these as a "foot in the door" if they are trying to get you to buy a vacuum, but if you buy one of these off Amazon, you're not gonna hear from them...

I’ve also come to overstand that this isn’t a mere air freshening machine. Well it does freshen the air but it does so via purification. And by way of the definition of purification it indeed removes impurities in the air. This simple yet extremely effective centrifugal process actually circulates your smelly/dirty air (and trust not your eyes as your air is full of all kinds of dust, dirt, microscopic particles of debris, dead skin, hair and even bacteria and viruses) through one of Mama Nature’s greatest filters, H2O, back out as nearly pure air… so to speak as “air” is actually a mixture of several gases most notably nitrogen and the all important oxygen.

Sorry, I don't really know how to trouble shoot that. The light is definitely secondary - we don't really use ours that often.
Be very careful with mold. You should completely dry the unit out every few days to prevent mold from growing.

Does it require any maintenance - like any filters that need to be cleaned?
We haven't really done anything like that. I don't expect it to last forever but so far I haven't seen the need for any maintenance. There are no filters that I'm aware of - you'd have to "take it apart" to get inside - it's not built to be taken apart really.
The inside of the part that sling water can get nasty just twist it to unclip it and clean that piece. I have cleaned mine twice and I notice it performs like it’s new again. I have run alittle bleach in it to clean it then rinse and use the oils.
Mine doesn’t get the rain on the sides of the bowl.

You need to clean the grey funnel looking part. Vinegar works well

It may be great at adding fragrance not at cleaning the air. Run it with just pure water for a week-the water is crystal clear if it’s “filtering” the air why is there nothing in the water/filter????
It's definitely more for refreshing the air than "cleaning." It seems to have a cleaning affect, but not in the same way an air purifier is.
Does this actually increase the humidity in my house?
If it does, it would be a barely detectable amount. It doesn't "put humidity into the air" the way a humidifier would. But just the laws of nature would suggest that the air coming out contains more moisture than going in - I couldn't imagine it resulting in more than a 5% increase over several hours of running - you can tell because you'll see the water level. It does change, but barely - not like a humidifier.

No. You can use any essential oil. Just remember not all are equal and the higher quality cost more but also works better.
I got one for free too!! But it’s loud, doesn’t filter as much as a regular air filter, and it’s big and bulky.. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

They are awesome - but no, I wouldn't pay $350 for one. I think ours was $40-50. They do have a HUGE version of this that's a whole house air freshener and air cleaner. That one is pricey - maybe that's what you saw???

Its recommended to only use the Rainbow oils. Not just any oils.
Maybe you shouldn't, but we have used them and it seems to be okay so far. I think recently though my spouse bought the official ones from RainMate themselves which I'm sure are ideal. But for the last year or so we've just been using normal high grade essential oils.

We've had 4 of these for 8 years and use a single drop of lavender oil. The only thing it does to the plastic is it gets gritty. All you have to do is wipe it off.

If you cannot open your windows for any reason, buy a few houseplants.
If it's 90 degrees outside and your a/c is running, opening up the windows isn't an option. This isn't necessarily something we ever run all day and night, just something to run for a few hours every now and again.

I did the demo thing for a family member. I wouldn't recommend doing this demo to my worst enemy. Its long and boring and they try to sell you a Way over priced unit. But anyways.... I thought the air purifier that they gave us was pretty cool. It put out pretty smells and seemed really nice. But , my husband just cooked lobster. The place stinks. So I pulled out the air purifier. Its been running for about 2 hours. It still stinks like lobster. Im Soooo disappointed. Not even worth it for free. Avoid these products, they suck
Rainbows are crap. Research RITELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, is made to last FAR longer than that little while that little Rainbow shows up. Dont get me wrong. Rainbows had there time, but Ritello is the new king.
