I've seen them live and they were awesome. There's something in the water in Japan and the women are drinking alot of it. So many elite level musicians there and incredible bands. Akane is an incredible drummer, one of the best in Japan. You have an elite bassist in Misa and she get's spotlighted more than most bassists are in other bands and the lead guitarist, Kanami, is one of the best in Japan as well and she is a fantastic music composer as well. Saiki is an amazing vocalist and Miku, backing vocals and guitar started the band. She worked in a maid cafe previously (It's a thing), hence the band's name & maid outfits. Others will fill you in more deeply. It's an educated and fully invested fanbase.
Freedom has a longer drum solo by Akane. Jimmy Page from Led Zep saw her play live , met her backstage and had pic taken with her, which is easy to find. He was very complimentary about her drumming esp, her bass drum technique. There docos on every member , with all background from when they were just kids , you will enjoy hearing. Welcome to the Maidiacs club.
"Domination", "Manners and Black Hole" and "Hate?" is an excellent choice. Seems like you have got help from someone that knows what is best to react to. Now, it is said that they have 130+ songs. I do not know if it is true. Probably, Kanami, the guitarist, is a VERY productive composer. It is said that all are bangers. I would say that this is an exaggeration. I have heard songs I do not fancy. But ... to be fair ... they are hard to find. Here are some songs, except those that you already have on your list, that I really fancy. * Chose Me (MV) * Dont you tell me (live) * From now on (instrumental, MV) * Moratorium * Onset (instrumental, live) * Play (live) * Thrill (the original MV, the one that saved BAND-MAID) * Without holding back (instrumental, MV)
The Maids have over 100 songs and all are so good. It's a deep amazing rabbit hole filled with great music from a group of the best musicians out there. Manners is brilliant and shows a different side of the group and Hate highlights the talent. Enjoy
There is more back story about the band than you can shake a stick at. So much, that a super fan, Ohrenje, made a series of documentaries on each member! They are of a high level professionally, and can be found at his UA-cam site. Don't get sidetracked by the many other excellent videos he has made about various aspects of the band.
Thank You *Steve Billingsley* for spreading the music of *BAND-MAID* ----------------------------------------- _The Carrier Pigeons delivering the music of _*_BAND-MAID_*_ to the World_
Band-Maid always brings a smile. Most fun I have ever had at a concert was Band-Maid. Maid outfits are key to the band. Yes. They gather around the drummer and they are all making faces at each other. The drummer is the champ of the contest.
Wardrobe-Miku (rhythm guitarist/background vocalist) use to work in a Japanese maid cafe and thought it would be a cool idea to have a band dress in maids uniforms and then hit you with this rock sound. (something you wouldn't expect when you first see them. They call that "The Gap"). She was suppose to be the lead singer but didn't think her voice was strong enough to sing the types of songs she wanted the band to play so she basically fired herself from that role. 1st member she got was Kanami (lead guitar). She found her online. Kanami knew Akane (drums) . Akane knew (MISA). I believe they attended the same music school. Then the final piece was Saiki for lead. I believe she was under the same management company as the band. Miku didn't play guitar before starting the band and Kanami is her teacher.
Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. While they don't class themselves as a metal band, they don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up. Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!
"Domination" is a great place to start with Band-Maid. It is very much the typical Band-Maid song -- cheerful hard rock, great guitar solo and bass and drum work, lots of audience participation -- along with cute costumes. The wardrobe is foundational -- Miku, the founder, worked in a maid cafe and uses the whole cafe service, not just the costumes. She engages with the audience during breaks just like a maid in a cafe, getting the audience to chant slogans from maid cafes (Moe Moe Kyun Kyun). She calls the audience "masters and princesses', a phrase from maid cafes. Their concerts are 'servings", like a cafe. Band-Maid feature great drums, bass and lead guitar -- and their songs highlight all their musical skills. The composer is Kanami, the lead guiatrist, who has played piano from the age of 4 and was raised on Chopin. She has a very musical imagination. I came across Band-Maid during Covid, and they quickly became my favourite band.
Welcome to the Pigeon hole you are about to go down. The costumes are in reference the Maid Cafe culture in Japan. Miku, the founder, worked for one for a while. Akane is the drummer, and along with the bass player Misa, they make up the best rhythm section in all of Rock. Jimmy Page once insisted on getting his picture taken with Akane because of her drumming. If you get the opportunity to see them live you will not be disappointed. They are the best live sounding band I have ever heard.

Welcome to the world of Band Maid !!!!! The best current rock band on the planet !!!!!!! They have been together for 11 years and are the tightest band I have ever heard !!!!! They are a genre less band and have music for everyone's taste. And yes that exactly what they were doing around the drummer....making faces to distract her !!!! Which by the way never works...Akane literally never misses a beat...but they have fun anyways.
Yes, the Maids were making faces at the drummer, Akane. The Japanese call it "hengao", meaning "strange face". Saiki (blue rose/black dress) on vocals, also attempts to break Akane in the live MV for the song "Play". Miku (red rose/vocal/guitar/lyricist/band founder) used to work at Maid Cafe's in Kumamoto and Tokyo, thought a rock band in maid outfits would be cool, she was soooo right! 🤘
The band has 4 humans and 1 800yo pigeon. They compose and produce their music. The lead guitarist begins the process with the basic melody, sending to the bassist and drummer for their input. Once the music is ready it goes to the rhythm guitarist(Pigeon) who writes the lyrics. Then to the studio for final work, with the main singer having the "We're Done". They have been touring the US and Europe since 2016 Next - "Puzzle" full roar & "Puzzle" acoustic. Same song but very different. Here's what Rolling Stone said about them: Japanese Rockers Band-Maid Put Guitar Center Showoffs to Shame There’s a pun to be made about how much Band-Maid ripped, but the Japanese group goes even harder than that. Fluctuating between hard rock, aughts nu-metal, and pop rock, each member of the quintet is a virtuoso in her own right with more than a decade of practice in Band-Maid alone. They lured curious onlookers into the fold when highlights like “Domination” and “Don’t You Tell Me” got huge reactions from the crowd, but it was the bass solo-versus-guitar solo duels mid-song that got the biggest cheers. This is what those guys in Guitar Center think their ridiculous riffing sounds like. Turns out it’s done best, and most effortlessly, by women in black-and-white maid dresses and frilly hair-pieces as they smile ear to ear. -N.C.
Welcome to the world of Band Maid. You’ll find their music is quite diverse. They’ll do different genres and at times different genres in one song. They will change the chorus slightly as they’re playing it. What you expect to happen next might not. Miku (the 800 year old pigeon) has a spot in the live shows called “magic spell “ time.she’s a born entertainer and funny. Enjoy the journey.
Once again, absolutely delighted with your reactions to another of my top-10 favorite groups right now! I love how you really try to dive deep into all aspects of the performance, the group, their aesthetic and the structure of the songs. It's a refreshing way to view a reaction. Thank you again!
It is all thank to you my friend, music is so much more than just a song to me🤗 And to understand a song and where it came from makes me appreciate it even more. These requests were amazing thank you so much👏🏽🤗
Band-Maid has had its original lineup for the last 11 years now, except for the addition of their lead singer, Saiki, who actually joined very shortly after the band started performing because the band's singer and founder, Miku Kobato, felt that they needed to add a stronger vocalist. Unlike many other music groups, the Band-Maid members are all great friends with one another and work together seamlessly to make some of the most incredible rock/metal music heard today.
Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 Band-Maid is one of the best bands in our country, especially in live performance. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) My another favorite BABYMETAL, whom you have already reacted to, is one of them. Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄
You know that even a manga with Cheap Trick on it was published? It's crazy that the band became famous in Japan and then in the USA. 😊 I'm from Spain and we really love your musical scene, specially the talented female rock bands. Me and some friends always talk about our favourite female rockstars from Japan and we all have our favourites. I really like Rei from the band BRATS, great singer and very pretty. My other favourites are Toki from Aldious, Saki (former Nemophila member) and Saiki from Band Maid.
Welcome home master, 🕊💜po!. Sounds like you are already heading down the pigeon hole to become a true Maidiac like the the rest of us. MAND-MAID is hands down the best live band in the world. So keep watching the official live videos and you will have an amazing time.
For Maid theme: Miku, the band founder, used to work in a Japan Maid Cafe to make ends meet until she made her dreams come true. Her vision, create "the gap", a juxtaposition between cute Maids and hard rocking Music. "Masters and Princesses" - this is what the Maids call their fans. "Okyu-ji" - Translates to "Servings", which is what they call their live concerts. "Omajinai Time" - Translate to "Magic Spell Time", during this time a spell is cast at by Maids and their Masters and Princess at Maid Cafes. Miku leads Omajinai time during one of the MC breaks at their Okyu-jis. It's so much fun, especially if the other Maids troll her. But, being the quick witted Pigeon she is, she rolls with it, which often leads to quite entertaining outcomes. "Maid Armor" or "Maid Battle Armor" - the Maid outfits they wear. Although they started with same/similar outfits, they have evolved over time to fit the personalities of each Maid. Other FYI: Kobato is the family name of Miku, the second lead vocal, backing vocal, rhythm guitar, main lyricist and band founder. Her Kanji 小鳩 (Kobato) translate to "small pigeon". "Hato" (鳩) which is what translate to pigeon/dove, can also be conceived as 8-10. So she has taken on the persona of a 810 yr old small pigeon. Thus Miku often ends most of her sentences with "PO!" "PO!" - Onomatopoeia associated to the sound a pigeon makes in Japan is "Kuruppo" or "Poppo". "PO!" being the shortened version.
Echoes: Thanks for checking out our Maids! They are amazing musicians and a joy to follow. Welcome down the pigeon hole! Other great Band Maid songs to check out: From now on (MV) A blistering Instrumental Hate? (Live) Shambles (MV) The Non-Fiction Days (MV) Secret Maiko Lips (MV) Dice (live) But it really doesn’t matter. Every song is terrific. Seriously. Welcome aboard, Echoes! More Band-Maid please!
I enjoy your reaction to Yorushika and now I found this! I am so glad that you discovered and liked BAND-MAID. Both groups have a similar approach to the music they create, imo. The detailed arrangements are both super excellent. Enjoy your BM journey!
And a thing about the maid outfits, Echo: as Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids. Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working, Po! Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. Band-Maid is considered by many of their fans and Maidiacs to be the best hard rock band in the world - maid outfits and all!
Their image is based on the juxtaposition of hard-hitting rock and cute maid costumes. It was inspired by the founder, who before joining the band worked at a maid cafè. She found Kanami Tono on guitar on internet, who was putting out videos. I believe she also did give lessons, which would become important later. By chance she knew a drummer named Akane Hirose, who again knew an above average capable bass-player (MISA). With Miku's sweet, popish voice it became apparent that it wasn't suited for the style they were aiming for, so she deicided to step back and look for a singer with a more "raw" tone. Through her management she found Saiki Atsumi (bless you!), who was asked to join on false "grounds". Her manager warned Miku that she might be turned-off if she knew about the image. She's known for being quite a fashionista! I believe she got a bit surprised when showing up at their first gig. Both her and Misa on bass were pretty reluctant to the image, so after a few years they left for something more neutral. With a complete band the question appeared: do we need 2 singers? And the idea, that one of them could learn the guitar. Saiki was a bit reluctant. Probably because of being forced to wear a maid-costume? Who knows... At least: Kanami stepped up and promised Miku to play. After 11 years she's become quite good. After 3 years she was asked by Zemaitis if she would like to try one of theirs. Before this she had been using a Rickenbacker, which she bought more because of looks. After 5 years she got her own signature "Flappy Pigeon" (long story Po) All others are endorsed by a company. Akane by Tama, Misa by Black smoker (Got bot a PR and a signature). Kanami on the other hand got no signature still... But just got her own priceless Private Reserve from PRS. Next song? I would guess "Blooming" (music video) would be fitting? IMO a masterpiece.
Kanami is one of two Japanese guitarists who have been featured on the PRS official page. She has also been featured in an official PRS video comparing the latest guitars and being interviewed by Warning Guitarist Daniela. Her beautiful private stock guitars have also been featured in the official PRS video.
The Land of Maid welcomes you, as do the Maidiacs. These ladies are 1) all top tier musicians, 2) ridiculously great songwriters and arrangers - very creative!!, 3) extremely uplifting and therefore very addictive because who doesn't want more dopamine?, 4) very aware of and connected to the fans - and Maidiacs are generally very friendly people, 5) genre defying (hard rock but tinged with everything else once you've heard their catalogue) and 6) awesome human beings who have worked their asses off for 11 years and really push themselves. You're right that they do enjoy their music and each other and their fans. Their live shows are not to be missed!!!!
Great reaction! Welcome to the life changing music of Band-Maid. You're right, their love of playing music is reflected in their performances. You can feel the energy of their music on these live MV's, and the crazy part is the energy is exponentially higher live in person. And you're also right about them messing around on stage from time to time. Just shows how close the band is and the confidence they have in each others abilities. They were indeed making faces at Akane the drummer. It's a Japanese game called hengao, a game of strange/weird/funny faces in an effort to throw someone off their task. Try as they might, Akane is "the Master" and doesn't miss a beat. In fact, from this same concert, Akane beats Saiki, the lead singer, in the song "Play", the song just before this one. When you get to at Official Live MV. Look/listen for it in the bridge. Saiki squats with a little chuckle. PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘
The maid outfits are an integral part of the Band Maid personality. It is refered to as the "gap." The band was started by the backup singer and rythym guitarist - Miku, who once worked in maid cafes in Japan. The women in these cafes are all cute, personable, and demure. Miku wanted to use the maid uniforms, as a way to sort of surprise the listener as they slammed you with their hard driving beats and songs. Many a reactor has commented on the outfits and the anomaly with their music, so thus the gap is a real thing. Those of us familiar with them, don't really notice the outfits anymore, except in those few performances where these women wear something entirely different. There are many things now attached to this band, such as the frequent references to a pigeon and a pigeon hole, and the word "po." I suggest a series of documentaries, one on each band member and how they came into this band, by a Frenchman named Ohrenje. They are quite good and quite interesting too, and it will surprise you that these ladies are not quite what you think they might be. A lot of these various little things surrounding BM will be explained. I loved your reaction. I lloved that you let it play out before starting your reaction. I loved that you gave us an enlarged area to see their performance. It is not that we aren't interested to hear from you, but we also are present to listen to the music and you have provided us a wonderful venue for just that. Thank you - believe me we appreciate it! Your remarks were well thought out and the questions are quite natural to have. One could tell that you actually were listening to the music and not just contemplating what you were going to say. For these reasons I am happy to subscribe to your channel and look forward to our musical journey together. It is also nice to know that some more Band Maid is coming as well. Thanks again. BTW if you ever get to see them live, it is a must, because they are beyond amazing in person. I got to see them in Salt Lake City last summer and when they come to the US again, I am going wherever I have to, to see them again, and most likely it will be more than just one city too.
Welcome, EMo. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 210 million views just on their official YT channel, plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:
BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (130+ songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular! Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 32 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 32 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 33 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 31 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. You have questions? If you can imagine one, the Maidiacs will answer. The fanbase is similar to that of bands like Rush or KISS. Your analysis of the song is spot on. Miku 🌹 hatched her idea of a band of maids conquering the world with “cool music,” and these lyrics were inspired by that. Wardrobe? Miku 🌹worked briefly at a Japanese maid cafe in Tokyo while pursuing her dreams. It was her idea to create a contrast between appearances and sounds. The outfits have changed dramatically over time, with new iterations typically debuting for new tours. Akane, the drummer, is exceptional. Band Maid is committed to the song and not individuals so extended solos are rare. There are specific songs that highlight her talents throughout. (Warning, Shambles, From Now On, Black Hole) Congratulations! You may be the first reactor I’m aware of that guessed the members were making faces to throw off Akane. 🏆 “Hengao” is the Japanese term and it’s one of many inside jokes and traditions. “Domination” is in my top 30, your next three songs (Manners/Black Hole/Hate?) are in my top 50. There are some incredibly well written, catchy and interesting songs ahead of you. Because you asked, something easily overlooked in first listens is Kanami’s guitar work inside the song’s fundamental melody. While the bass and rhythm guitars hold down the basics, Kanami loves counter melodies, especially using octaves, arpeggios and/or repetitive licks (like a pianist’s right hand) to create interesting soundscapes. In “Domination,” it’s octaves during the choruses. Welcome to the pigeonhole, Po!
You should check out, From now on. And, Thrill. They are both great. The founder used to work in a maid cafe, which is a type of Japanese restaurant. The cafe's would allow the waitress to perform on their breaks.
Another reason why the members gather around Akane. This is just my guess, but... they gather around Akane, who cannot move, and look at each other to confirm their friendship. They don't want to make Akane feel lonely.
DOMINATION live was the 22nd song of their 23 song set and begins with a segue that is the dying away of the last note of the previous song PLAY. 🤘🤘At 2:33 - MISA, the bassist, Kanami the lead guitarist and composer, and Miku the rhythm guitarist and founder of the band, are playing Hengao - "strange faces" - with Akane the drummer, which is making funny faces to try and put someone off. Akane, of course, laughs along while not missing a beat. It shows the ladies' confidence in each others' abilities that they can fool around like this while all of them slam out note-perfect Rock at full tilt. 🤘🤘At 3:22 - MISA the bassist is holding her plectrum in her curled finger so she can produce it and switch from slapping to picking in half a nanosecond! 🤘🤘At 3:58 - Akane the drummer hitting two separate beats on her double kick pedals while simultaneously continuing the song melody on her snare, toms and cymbal. 🤘🤘At 5:02 - a brief glimpse of Kanami laying down one sweet rolling chord pattern - pure class. THE best Hard Rock band on Earth. And beyond.
For a good and proper drum solo you should check out their live version of "Freedom" from this same concert. Otherwise you can't go wrong with this band. The best song is the one you heard last. Supreme talent from each member.
Kanami the lead guitarist and the genius composer of the band…starts the musical composition and sends it to the others for their input. Each member is are very talented with their instruments. Miku the rhythm guitar, backing vocalist and fonder of the band and is main lyricist and only started playing guitar when this band started. She is 810 years old half pigeon and human and end her sentences with PO! They each have their own personalities. Please continue down this pigeon hole! Thanks to Steve! 🤘🕊️🦍🥷👸🏻👀PO!
Next 2 vids are good choices. You want drum solo...Freedom Live. Anything on their YT official page is reaction worthy. No issues with blocking...they like reactor's and watch them occasionally
Welcome to the brave new world of Band-Maid as we get further into phase 5 of their World Domination plan! You will be assimilated and you will love it! Thanks for the great reaction! Subbed! I see you've already done another reaction, but I hope that these are just the first of a complete dive down the pigeon hole, because I would love to hear your opinions on their music. Nice work catching them making faces at the drummer, Akane, that's exactly what was going on there, and yes, they have tons of fun on stage. Seen them live once, and can't wait to see them yet again (hoping for a US/World tour in 2025)!
Here's another Japanese group to try - Bridear. They just dropped a new album. Still Burning Brave New World Revisited Ignite Ghoul Bloody Bride and many more
My recommendation is to use their official videos. They are well produced, sound good, and their closed caption English is spot on, readible, and not covering any of the video action. They really reach new heights when performing live (they sound better than the studio version, pump up the crowds, and take time to give each member a solo opportunity). Their instrumentals are great. And check out the founder Miku singing and playing accoustic guitar. She was a Japanese idol contest winning singer, but recruited Saiki for lead singer, to achieve the sound the band needed. Lots to this group. Do check out the Ohrenje documentary series on each member.
If you want a first class endorsement for these girls, ask Jimmy Paige, he saw them in concert and was so taken by Akane the drummer he asked to go back stage and get his photo taken with her, as he reckoned she was a reincarnation of John (Bonzo)Bonham, you need to try HATE live next fron there 10th Anniversary tour.
You just listened the best band in the world, my friend. Great reaction! Maybe someone has already answered your question, the the founder of Band-Maid, Miku Kobato, worked at a maid cafe and wanted to model the band after that. The maid theme (cute and humble) contrasts with the style of music that they play. When I first heard them I was amazed at the sound coming from these five beautiful ladies from Japan. The best ever (and I’ve been around quite a while). I thought the best of rock was behind us, but it just moved to Japan. Welcome to the Pigeon hole. (the pigeon is a nick name of the back up singer, Miku, who learned to play guitar well enough to be the rhythm guitarist). I LOVE BAND MAID ❤❤
MISA!!! MISA!!! MISA!!! 🥃🥃🥃 Badass Bass Assassin and Band-Maid are the best Hard Rock band in the world right now in my opinion 🤙🏽Their Live videos are times better because you can see how talented these musicians really are. Here are some suggestions: Live versions of Hate?, Don't You Tell Me, Moratorium, Puzzle, Freedom, Onset, Play, Manners, Turn Me On and Take Me Higher to get you started
If this was a Isekai, then Band-Maid is wisp to another world where nobody knows them. Realizing this, the members decide they'll have to Dominate this new world if everyone is going to know who they are. They write a statement song, traveling the world they perform their song until one day, the entire world has heard their music. After dominating the entire world through music, they relax, crack open a beer, and Miku says, "Who's up for another world".
They have Metal influences, but BAND-MAID consider themselves to be Hard Rock. But it's all in there. Not only are their songs all over the map, but even within songs. They're Genre Jumpers. The Founder, Miku, worked in a Maid Cafe, and the idea of combining the Maid Look with a Hard Rocking band appealed to her. As for drumming, whether you think you can, or think you can't, you're right. When they got going Akane had to add Double Pedals to her playing, just like MISA had to switch to a 5 String Bass. Miku couldn't even play a guitar when she formed the band. You just have to work at it. If you'd like to see a song that highlights the drumming check out 'Freedom' LIVE from this same show.
entering a new world in anime is an Isekai ..... like "Log Horizon" for an MMORPG Isekai.... which band maid just so happened to make the song for their 3rd season
They're maids, here to serve you. 👍 Miku, the founder of the band had worked in a "maid cafe" which is like a malt shop where the waitresses dress as traditional maids and sing you pop songs while making your shake. She had been a part of an upstart pop trio but had quit because she didn't love it. On her bus ride home one night while listening to some heavy rock, she espoused, "Wouldn't it be cool if I could be in a band where I got to wear cute clothes but play cool music?" Thus Band-Maid was born.
Welcome to the BandMaid experience. The greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century. Here's some opinions and facts: •Bass solos are more likely to happen than not •Guitar solos are shorter, far shorter than you would like them to be •Unless you are superhuman, you will not/ can not be able to pick up everything they're doing to make that song great on the first listen. •Genre? Genres?? We don' need no stinkin" genre! •11 yrs with the same line up. Think about that. •More hooks, riffs and motifs in many songs than most bands have on an album. Check it out. No hyperbole. •Use of puns, wordplay using homophones between Japanese and English are not the exception. They are typical of Kobato's lyrics. •Despite the fact that their LIVE videos are superior to the official studio MV"s the latter are excellent. Funny, graphic, innovative and stunningly beautiful works of art describe what you get with BandMaid's official MV's. •As close to the Beatles in terms of unique persona of the members as any group since the Monkees. MISA is quiet and drinks. Akane is happy and eats, Miku is klutzy and CUTE, Kanami is an airhead who crushes on Saiki and Saiki was the Ice Queen. But the Ice Queen has thoroughly thawed. See Yokohama's Endless Story! Their image is carefully crafted or spontaneous or both. •Many songs have catch phrases or singalong sections to engage the audience. Many songs are in English and Japanese. Most songs are full of joy as well. •They're having a ball. They enjoy performing. They enjoy the fans. They enjoy each other. •Make no mistake, this is not just another band.
Watch Miku (never leaves stage) do her anime act and magic spell time during breaks. It's her band and she is the final say in all things Bandmaid related. She already had gotten a contract for her concept before she found the other members. They are all so endearing. When they were about to get fired in 2014 they were only firing the band not her. They were going to form a pop group around her. She refused and kept the band and later fired the label and negotiated a better deal with PC. A huge upgrade in support and she happily fired her other company. You don't give this pigeon ultimatums. She kept her band mates and got rid of the old label.
This is a rabbit hole all it's own! Not only for music but for interviews and documentaries. A great interview to introduce you to the band and show their personalites. It is two parts and well worth the watch. here are the links. ua-cam.com/video/R4PofsQYwn4/v-deo.html and part 2 ua-cam.com/video/YzWETTu-4iE/v-deo.html
The maid aesthetic comes from the band founder and rhythm guitarist, Miku Kobato (Small Pigeon). She worked at a maid cafe where the waitresses dress in maid uniforms and perform a magic spell (omajinai) over your food to make it even more delicious. The band members usually only have one outfit each, which means that they wear out quickly from having to be washed so often. They design and make new outfits when it is required. All of the members originally had traditional maid outfits but that has now evolved into each member having an outfit that more suits their individual style. You were spot on about them "making faces" toward the drummer, Akane (Gorilla), in order to throw her off. It never works. She is actually the biggest clown in the group. The origin of the band is a great story. You should watch the documentaries about each member which are available on the Ohrenje UA-cam channel. Each band member has one except for Miku which is in three parts. They are very well made and quite informative.
The maid costumes are to create "the Gap" meaning the difference in what you are seeing "demure maids" vs what you are hearing "Hard Rock". Maid cafes are very popular in Japan, the staff are dressed as maids and you pay for time with them to talk plus drinks. Touch one and you're out on your A$$.
The top tier of the top tier of bands and minus all the toxic ego and BS rock star antics. Welcome to the best ride in the rock and roll fun park cheers from down under Po 👍🍻
Absolutely, they always wear maid costumes because they are Band-Maid. I sometimes wonder if the group sometimes regret having to always dress up as maids onstage… It is one of those sorts of decisions you could make without imagining yourself living up to it eleven years in the future…
Hengao is the act of making faces. Yes they were trying to throw off Akane. Fail. Watch Domination OMV to understand Miku's plan for World Domination in graphic terms.
Best band in Japan, followed by IMO One Ok Rock, Wagakki, Doll$boxx and Hanabie. Band Maid should only be listened to live. They have lots of great songs, including Hate, Freedom, Manners with Black Hole and Daydreaming. All best live. The best songs to hear Akani play drums is Freedom and Black Hole. In Black Hole she has no solo, but just listen to the live version of Black Hole (paired up with Manners in the video) and listen to nothing but the drums. You'll be impressed. Likely your next selection, as you said. Manners with Black Hole: ua-cam.com/video/iaf94nNSRGE/v-deo.html
You do mention smooth transitions, but I had a slightly different feeling. Particularly @4:12 there is a transition after the lengthy guitar/drum solo. Miku is shredding and Akane rolling drums then suddenly they aren’t and Saiki is singing. When I first heard it, I wondered if a moment of video was lost there. But I can’t think of why that might happen, so I decided it’s just the way the song is…
Check out NEMOPHILA for a heavier band that is still all girl and Japanese infact two of them are married with children . Try their song Rise or AMA-TE-RAS.
If not for all the amazing requests I might have never heard of them😅 Here in my side of the world we don't get served much of any Eastern style music. Most of my exposure before this was theough anime😂😁
BAND-MAID still have all their original members & have given us 11yrs & counting of awesome music. It's already more than enough to last a lifetime.🤗
The best live rock band on the planet...maybe the best in music history.
@@ShikataGaNai100 Well they're my fave band of all time & i can never see another band coming along that'll change my mind.😁

WELCOME to BAND-MAID. Things are just better with BAND-MAID in your life.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Band-Maid. This is the hole you wanna go down.
* Chose Me (MV)
* Dont you tell me (live)
* From now on (instrumental, MV)
* Moratorium
* Onset (instrumental, live)
* Play (live)
* Thrill (the original MV, the one that saved BAND-MAID)
* Without holding back (instrumental, MV)
You will look back on this day as being that one awesome day you discovered BAND-MAID 🤘😎
Miku worked at a Tokyo maid cafe before forming Band Maid. The maid costumes are their unique signature appearance.
Guys... our guy here wants to see a drum solo!!! FREEDOM is the go to song for this😂
Thank You *Steve Billingsley* for spreading the music of *BAND-MAID*

Best rock band on the planet. Enough said.
Japan has many fine bands to choose from, but Band Maid🎀 has no equal!😸
Welcome aboard! Thanks for spreading the word, Steve.

Which by the way never works...Akane literally never misses a beat...but they
have fun anyways.
yes, i love their bonds and involvement with fan base! i hope that they will stay together till the end!
You are correct in your guess about gathering around Akane, they do indeed pull faces to try and put her off
It’s called Hen-Gao, the Japanese art of funny faces.
Thank YOU for BAND MAID Sir and welcome to Band Maid(Pigeon-hole)🔥🍺🥴🤟
The band has 4 humans and 1 800yo pigeon.
They compose and produce their music. The lead guitarist begins the process with the basic melody, sending to the bassist and drummer for their input. Once the music is ready it goes to the rhythm guitarist(Pigeon) who writes the lyrics. Then to the studio for final work, with the main singer having the "We're Done".
They have been touring the US and Europe since 2016
Next - "Puzzle" full roar & "Puzzle" acoustic. Same song but very different.
Here's what Rolling Stone said about them:
Japanese Rockers Band-Maid Put Guitar Center Showoffs to Shame
There’s a pun to be made about how much Band-Maid ripped, but the Japanese group goes even harder than that.

I liked and subscribed because of Band-Maid 🤘
Welcome to the fandom!
Welcome home master, 🕊💜po!.
Sounds like you are already heading down the pigeon hole to become a true Maidiac like the the rest of us.
MAND-MAID is hands down the best live band in the world.
So keep watching the official live videos and you will have an amazing time.
For Maid theme:
Miku, the band founder, used to work in a Japan Maid Cafe to make ends meet until she made her dreams come true.
Other FYI:
Kobato is the family name of Miku, the second lead vocal, backing vocal, rhythm guitar, main lyricist and band founder. Her Kanji 小鳩 (Kobato) translate to "small pigeon". "Hato" (鳩) which is what translate to pigeon/dove, can also be conceived as 8-10. So she has taken on the persona of a 810 yr old small pigeon. Thus Miku often ends most of her sentences with "PO!"
"PO!" - Onomatopoeia associated to the sound a pigeon makes in Japan is "Kuruppo" or "Poppo". "PO!" being the shortened version.
Echoes: Thanks for checking out our Maids! They are amazing musicians and a joy to follow. Welcome down the pigeon hole!

Wardrobe? A band called Band-Maid that dresses as Maids thay play kickass Rock music with punk, metal, jazz, etc elements.
After 5 years she got her own signature "Flappy Pigeon" (long story Po)
All others are endorsed by a company.
Kanami had a signature model with her previous Addictone endorsement
They are rock and roll guardian angels and the best hard rock band on this planet🤘Keep an eye on them!!
PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘
America has Metallica
Japan has BAND-MAID
Welcome to the world called BAND-MAID, the key has unlocked the door now open the door to loving every song.
"Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: ua-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/v-deo.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Hate?, Shambles, Influencer, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on.
But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, Bestie, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Protect You, Sense, Different, Glory and Unleash!!!!! (from their own Anime MV (series?)): ua-cam.com/video/7LB_EPS48HE/v-deo.html)
And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. ua-cam.com/users/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYUJI concerts:

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

Band-Maid Members:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “StarQueen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen!
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 32 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!!
A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans.

The Maids are one of the hardest working supergroups in the business! Their music, their sound, each of the Maids, and the love that permeates their live events is an experience not to be missed. Hope you can catch them LIVE!
(Warning, Shambles, From Now On, Black Hole)
Congratulations!
They are also trying to get her to drop her rhythm, but they can’t.
Freedom has an extended drum solo.
"extended" i believe that is an understatement
They've even recognized Mr. Rock and Roll at shows TWICE and called out to him, lol.
@mikeat2637 yeah I was at the Charlotte show when they had no choice but hear him lol
Be ready for us MAIDNIACS. Thanks.
Still Burning
Brave New World Revisited
Ignite
Ghoul
Bloody Bride
and many more
🕊️🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
My recommendation is to use their official videos. They are well produced, sound good, and their closed caption English is spot on, readible, and not covering any of the video action. They really reach new heights when performing live (they sound better than the studio version, pump up the crowds, and take time to give each member a solo opportunity). Their instrumentals are great. And check out the founder Miku singing and playing accoustic guitar. She was a Japanese idol contest winning singer, but recruited Saiki for lead singer, to achieve the sound the band needed. Lots to this group. Do check out the Ohrenje documentary series on each member.
Most versatil and creative band today. The nest Rock at the moment.
Echoes , Welcome to BAND-MAID enjoy your journey down the Pigeon hole , MISA !!! MISA !!! MISA !!! the Barefoot Bass Assassin .
The John Bonham part of the story isn't true, though it does crop up regularly in comments etc, giving the impression that it is true.
If you want another fantastic live performance I recommend their song Don't You Tell Me and Endless Story
Band-Maid has written a numbervof songs for anime - Different, Shambles, Sense, Glory
MISA!!! MISA!!!
Cheers Jeff.👍
Malt shop is a bit of an understatement. They're full restaurants that even serve alcohol
@@normanweaver7935Really? All of them do? I know there are a number of chains of this theme.
@@jeffersoncosgrove1910 Actually not sure they all do. I've seen a few videos, but probably all shot at at home cafe in Akihabara
Welcome to the BandMaid experience. The greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century. Here's some opinions and facts:
•Bass solos are more likely to happen than not
•Guitar solos are shorter, far shorter than you would like them to be
•Unless you are superhuman, you will not/ can not be able to pick up everything they're doing to make that song great on the first listen.
•Genre?

Po!
MISA MISA MISA!!!!!
Lovebites, Band Maid, hell yeah!
Now check out Nemophila "G.O.D." next!
All female Japanese hard rock/metal band that kicks a$$ as well!👍🤘
That's why I recommended Band-Maid and Lovebites - already lots of Nemophila reactions on this channel - Hanabie too!
But, yes, G.O.D is a great recommendation.
@stevebillingsley3529 nice recommending 2 frickin awesome bands!👊🤘✌️
The top tier of the top tier of bands and minus all the toxic ego and BS rock star antics. Welcome to the best ride in the rock and roll fun park cheers from down under Po 👍🍻
Welcome to the Maidiacs Master EoE
Absolutely, they always wear maid costumes because they are Band-Maid. I sometimes wonder if the group sometimes regret having to always dress up as maids onstage… It is one of those sorts of decisions you could make without imagining yourself living up to it eleven years in the future…
Miku worked at a maid cafe and wanted to put a group together mixing hard music and the maid look.
I really do so love watching people lose their BAND-MAID cherry! Hehehe..
Hengao is the act of making faces. Yes they were trying to throw off Akane. Fail.
Watch Domination OMV to understand Miku's plan for World Domination in graphic terms.
Band-maid always Band-maid reaction! When stop it? Never mainstream for life? Only way for band-maid to know for more audience??? 😮Viva internet!

Hate?
“Hate”
You do mention smooth transitions, but I had a slightly different feeling. Particularly @4:12 there is a transition after the lengthy guitar/drum solo. Miku is shredding and Akane rolling drums then suddenly they aren’t and Saiki is singing. When I first heard it, I wondered if a moment of video was lost there. But I can’t think of why that might happen, so I decided it’s just the way the song is…
Check out NEMOPHILA for a heavier band that is still all girl and Japanese infact two of them are married with children . Try their song Rise or AMA-TE-RAS.
He's already reacted to both - I think Rise was the first Nemophila song on the channel. So, great recommendation!
@stevebillingsley3529 it seems strange that he's heard of NEMOPHILA but not BAND-MAID but at least he's getting there.
If not for all the amazing requests I might have never heard of them😅 Here in my side of the world we don't get served much of any Eastern style music. Most of my exposure before this was theough anime😂😁
The band has this thing they have done for a while now where they try to make weird faces at Akane to get her to laugh and mess with her.
...and, one day 11 years ago, a 5' tall, 810-year old pigeon named Kobato said...I want to form a band of maids. The rest is history.
The best live rock band on the planet...maybe the best in music history.
