My daughter did work experience at Vivienne Westwood Battersea. At the end of her eight weeks there she was told that Vivienne had said she could chose any three items in the warehouse. Some things were so expensive, like two grand!! My daughter chose three moderate items and was given some perfume and a scarf extra to that. My daughter had worked with Vivienne, just the two of them, several times. She is a wonderful down to earth talented icon. An amazing part of our fashion history.
Yeah i did some work when I was a fashion student. Vivienne wasn’t the household name she is now, and we would actually go to her then council flat in Clapham.
I love her energy and irreverence! "The 20th century was a mistake". "We don't have any artists today". "How do you feel about being described as an icon?" "Well I'm not interested... I just want to save the world and get a life."
When I baught my first designer bag it just so happens to be a small black vivvian Westwood handbag. I was so excited with my bag I showed it off to my grandma who shocked me by calmly stating that she had gone to school with vivvian in Glossop. I was in shock for the rest of the day.
Its amazing I first heard of Vivienne Westwood through the anime/manga NANA. Vivienne was such a inspiration for the artist and you can see all of the fashion that they wore were inspired by her designs and they even had her lighter orb necklace.
I studied Vivienne during my course at school and she changed who I looked at fashion and just life in general. She changed a lot of things for the fashion industry and not many people know of her. She should get more recognition for what she's done for fashion and history of fashion
This Lady said that we won't remember her 10 y after her death? She will be remembered forever. And can we just take a moment for this guy interviewing her? So polite, so much knowledge, prepered. That's how you sit next to an legend and do your job. I hope he is doing amazing things rn and that his paycheck is quite nice.
I worked for her in 1997 when I was just out of school my first ever job , I used to see Vivienne Westwood every day , the funniest part is that I got the job from the local job centre the description was (office junior and warehouse assistant) with no details of employer , luckily the manager lived round the corner from me and told me id got the job just as I was leaving the building from the interview , was a real eye opener and gave me a good scaffold for my career .. as I then moved on to gucci years later ..good times
Vieinne will for many be remembered as an icon of original creativity and her political protesting for those who have no voice or aren't heard...her fame gave a platform for telling how it is..truth..
Save the World and Get a Life. When someone tells me get a life it's like offensive but when it's from her it's totally different. I felt like she wants me to experience what she has experienced in my own way. I love her.
I love how this interview focuses on culture and movements - the messages she projects through the art of fashion. And how grounded she is. The interviewer is good too.
+Mitch they aren't great but it's weird because I always knew about them because they're from my area so I have mutual friends- then i just was watching some id videos and i was like wait a second...
I love how vocal she is about what she believes in. Her work always has a greater message, and I definitely feel that. She's humble, but we all know once she goes, she'll be remembered. She's a legend. Also, it would be so great if you guys interviewed Azzedine Alaia, Rei Kawakubo, Helmut Lang, or Yohji Yamamoto.
Many years ago I sent a thank you card to vivianne as she did charity work for children with cancer. I sent a home made card. I got back a lovely signed card. She was such an icon. I used to teach near her shop and loved her fashion. We have lost such a great woman. But I hope her hubby and family work in her name. Fashion will not be the same. Excellent interview. Jan she was a lovely person and very wise and did not forget her roots.
What a beautiful woman. She might have quit Teaching as a career but she never gave up being a TEACHER! She just did it through the medium of clothing. Clothing was/is a form of COMMUNICATION which is what she was was using to teach! What a beautiful person. Of course, her clothing ideas were GENUINELY INSPIRED & were sensational because they SPOKE TO PEOPLE, ABOUT OUR HISTORY, about LIFE! Your vision is the IMMACULATE COLLECTION! Thank you VW!
Love the fact that even when she is such a rebellious woman, always with a provocative message, has still such a sweetness on her eyes... Rest in peace, dear.
Ms Westwood, I first saw you interviewed by Terry Wogan and was dismayed to see how the audience did not understand the critical messages you were trying to convey. I am thrilled to see that this interviewer really understands; it's a privilege to have the opportunity once more to hear you bring to life your intellect, fashion and humanity. Thank you
Amazing person and an Amazing Designer. Now as a fashion Designer student i learn about her i love her designs and she is such a inspiration. It is just brilliant.
an amazing woman she is a real artist one of few who are still living!! I agree totally to find real artists, or revolutionary artists is so rare these days, the world sank into mediocracy and superficiality!
I remember meeting her in her shop in Kings Road, Punk Music and Punk Clothes were not my thing, although I did go to check it out. I think Vivienne did great with her talents and skills, a huge success for that rebel. Certainly she is correct about history, history and our cultures are so important.
I've just learnt she has passed away a great British icon much admired I love her desire to leave the world better place , and she's an amazing women ,very inspirational ,I'd like to see this planet saved ,changed improved and thrive RIP Westwood you'll be missed
I remember mid 70 s seeing vivianne getting together with Malcolm ! It was suddenly a new movement ! We had done Mods we had done skinheads ! But there was nothing until let’s be a new generation !! Pink floyd that great track says everything about being the new generation ! Who ever you are x Bless you Vivianne xx
What a pleasure to listen to this woman speak. I agree don't throw away the past. It's very important. And remember everything is connected to everything else.
grrr.... let me begin by saying I have alot of respect for what her and Malcolm were doing in England, but it was in NO way an original idea, hence the "music came second" comment. Malcolm had traveled to NY and "Plundered" the punk rock scene's fashions there , which happened much more organically. He traveled back to England and basically put together the pistols as an ad for their shop. Second, her son is an asshole. Publicly, he burned several articles of clothing from the Seditionaries and Sex era. Things that belong in museums. And here she is saying you can't forget the past or 'throw out the old ways' ..... There's just alot of weird hypocrisy here, and barely any mention of Malcolm, who has since passed, and was the idea man behind the entire aesthetic that got her noticed in the first place.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one wincing at how ignorant the interviewer was about the punk culture which preceded the 70's and the 80's. How could he overlook influential iconic proto-punk bands like The Stooges and The Velvet Underground? If anyone should be credited for the punk movement, it should be accredited to the noteworthy musicians who had influenced the movement like Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, or Nico. Hell, I'd rather credit Warhol for inventing punk rather than Vivienne.
@@solomonandrade7864 I'm with you. I don't know if there's ever been another youth cultural or musical movement that has been _SO_ commercialized. They tried it with grunge, but that didn't catch on like this safe punk bullshit has. And of course, the music is what supposedly inspired the look. But not for Malcolm and Vivienne. The look came first (regurgitated from NY scene anyway) the music was completely secondary.
Punk was the music, then the fashion. The Ramones prove that fact 100% and if you want to go back, Proto-Punk bands had made the music before the fashion.
Her insights into the 20th century are fantastic and so accurate. It's really amazing to be getting this perspective on the last century. However, I find what she's saying about modern day artists actually negative and uninspiring. To say that it's absurd that not everybody can be an artist is as elitist as it comes and comes from a very western notion that separates art from self. It's also a shame that there is very little information about her actually using sustainable materials and paying a living wage to everybody on the supply chains. Lets not even get into the awful "sustainable fashion" line she did in 2012 where the promos included her in couture garments in the slums of Africa surrounded by the "natives". I'm not discounting her amazing work and contribution but I don't think people like her should be exempt from critique.
Wht an inspiration One of the only current fashion designers i follow since im new im sure ill learn more but she is one of the first and she is amazing!!
I love how ecstatic the interviewer is to be interviewing her
theKTanator before I watched the video I thought this was sarcasm and was expecting a shit interview haha!
she's westwood though
I would be too if I was talking to Vivienne Westwood
He is so good.
Me too.

Thanks an awesome experience to have under your belt!
I worked at the Battersea headquarters when I was 17 my first ever job for a year
@@SuperSimonuk that sounds like me and my friends, lol. doubt any of us will be the next westwood, but we have fun. :)

Thats so cool 😃😃
The interviewer did a fantastic job here. Almost everyone else is illiterate, disrespectful, unprofessional in journalism. So great work, sir!

Establishment is genuinely afraid of her. Take this speech from earlier this week, for instance: ua-cam.com/video/kKMDeIBXgdM/v-deo.html
Nim no she didn’t. John lydon and mclearan did
Joe Rodriguez go off 👏👏
In England, people know each other 📊📤😵

What an amazing woman, whan an incredible human being, strong story. Thanks, Vivienne!

Sometimes I think VW can be a bit strident in interviews, but now I wonder if that's due to vacuous interviewers because she was wonderful here.
I love the end: “oh Vivienne i think people will remember you regardless”

Punk started in Australia with Radio Birdman and the Saints. Malcolm formed a band that utilised that attitude and sound to form a brand called Punk.
