  • Boss are the market leader for loop pedals and with good reason: aside from their quality, they have something for everyone. But the range can be confusing so in this video we talk you through the key differences between the various Boss Loop Station pedals.
    Each of the pedals are available to purchase on our website: www.FXpedal.co.uk or try out in our London store situated in Northwood (just by Northwood Hills underground station and with free parking outside).

    Very good video. I’ve been playing guitar for 50 years, but have been wishing something like a really good looper pedal was available for about 48 of those years... these Boss pedals, especially the RC-10, are a dream come true. Thanks for showing the actual capabilities and differences among them, without all the ego-driven look-what-an-awesome-guitarist-I-am bullshit that 99% of the looper videos on UA-cam seem to be driven by.

      You, I believe, mention that all features carry forward.
      What am I missing here.
      On all models before the 10R you could play a loop and then add in drums and by some miracle the drums would sync into your newly formed loop.
      I have a couple of these and, w songwriter and live performance hats on, how do I get the 10R to follow my loop.
      Exasperated!
      Thanks I’m advance

    Content wise, great video. Loved the way you described it in sort of a "least-to-greatest" amount of features.
    Film horizontal when on a phone so people will stop filling your comments section with useless complaints that say the same thing over and over again.
    More light!! Get rid of those raccoon eyes and light your face evenly, you can achieve this with a lamp placed on one of those nearby amps. Haha
    Cameraman was fine, just turn the phone. Haven't looked at your latest stuff though, might be 10x better, just what's on my mind now. Great informational video! Thanks a lot!

      @@DunneMan I would have loved to be able to give you a review of it, but sadly I hardly ended up using it. It was the first pedal I bought and I ended up using an audio interface on my PC to play for the most part, so I have only used the pedal a handful of times. It seems great, I liked the drum machine and everything but I just never went through the hassle of learning how to use it properly :/

Half the comments here about the damn recording quality. When I started playing guitar we were excited about our VCRs having auto tracking and stereo if we could afford it. Not to mention a video presentation like this one that you get for FREE cost us about $49 back then so please sit back and shut up.

    Just some filming tips:
    Ditch the cameraman for a bipod, and just edit in still shots when you need to get close up on gear.
    As everyone said, film horizontally.
    Finally, strong lighting helps a lot when filming. Good footage can take an obnoxious amount of light.

    Cool looper review. I'm leaning towards the RC-10R and have two questions:
    1. I'd like to use this live, and need to give the drummer a tempo reference. Can I pan a single sound to serve as a click reference (cowbell, side stick, etc.) for a drummer to play against in a live setting? If not available with any of the rhythm presets, I suppose I could import a recording, but that would be at a set tempo, correct?
    2. Any thoughts on the MIDI interface? I'm not familiar with those tiny interconnects for MIDI.

    With the RC-3 you can play a guitar loop and then the pedal recognizes the speed needed for synced drums. I watched another video about the RC-10 and it seems, it can't do the same. The video also exposes that at the end of nearly all drumloops there is the sound of a cymbal crash, which is really annoying and can't be changed.
    What is your opinion about these issues?

    • @mikehewett4393
      @mikehewett4393 4 роки тому +4

      Oh dear! Yet another review of the RC 10R where the reviewer does not understand all the capabilities. The loop track and drum tracks can be used separately OR you can switch to sync mode and the loop track will even be quantised to match the drum tempo. Intros and outros can be switched off and the list of extra features available by plugging in a double switch pedal is just outrageous - and mind boggling but you don't have to do it all at once. My tip would be send the drum output to a separate amp/channel from the guitar (which is an option!) as there seem to be some unwanted sound artefacts if both through a guitar amp - one for Boss to tackle, maybe.

    • @CloudiVist
      @CloudiVist 3 роки тому

      @@mikehewett4393 It is true that you cannot first record a loop at your own tempo, then turn loop sync on, and have the rhythm then start in sync with your recorded loop. See the 'Guitarnica' YT channel on that. Of course, you can set a rhythm tempo, turn loop sync on, and record a loop in sync while the rhythm is playing but that's not the same thing and I can see why live looping performers have the hump about that. That has not deterred me from ordering one this week, however. Greatest features are the ability to easily record two sequential parts with a capable MIDI drum sound module that supports importing your own rhythm patterns via the Rhythm Converter app. So, if anyone doesn't like crashing at the end of a rhythm pattern they can import custom patterns of their own. Also love that Boss has finally abandoned long-travel pedals for foot switches in favor of quiet, short-travel buttons. I hope Boss will expand this new format to a three to five sequential track bigger brother in the future that I will also buy.

    Nice breakdown, but...using the RC-30 for verse-chorus song structure is an absolute arse. If you want to have different layers that drop in and out for different sections of your song then OK, fair enough, that works. But, a straight switch between playing your verse loop and playing your chorus loop isn't happening - both loops keep playing side by side. Switching between loop 1 and loop 2 doesn't change which one you can hear, it changes which one will be "active": i.e. which will governed by the Rec/Play/Overdub/Stop functions controlled by the footswitches.

    The RC 10r needs more features. For eg you should be able to do a guitar loop and press rhythm and have it sync the BPM automatically to the guitar loop. It needs to stop putting a crash at every end loop pattern. Because if you have a short loop then your gonna get cymbal crash constantly. Needs option to put them in yourself randomly or space them out a bit. And damn why not put a xlr mic input in there with plenty of memory so then you can actually just play your mic through the same amp how convenient Lastly why not have different kits, link it to an app have people share there kits with users and maybe have full songs people can create and you can then just dump it onto the pedal then you can have a whole performance set in there. Id love to see like boss create something that isn't just a fun little practice tool. Get serious boss

  • @KRAZEEIZATION
    @KRAZEEIZATION 4 роки тому +2

    The RC10 is seriously flawed! You have to set the tempo BEFORE you play the phrase! Not in freestyle which then syncs the rhythm like the RC3. There’s a cymbal crash that repeats all to often on most drum patterns! I did order one and was really looking forward to it but now I’m gonna pass.

    They really really REALLY should have added the ring LEDs on the other pedals. You kind of want that type of visual feedback IMHO. The downside is in how it is only a 16bit device, regardless of 'stereo in / out', which kind of isn't stereo in and out, but rather 'two separate ins and outs', not a left or right channel. Kind of misleading, but useful either way I guess. Also, the drum patterns are crap. Don't get these pedals for that. It's kind of unfortunate the Boss RC-5 is a bit too expensive for the upgrade it is to the RC-1. Well, unless you're going to use the looper every day of course.
