    1988 was the first year for the OBSs but they only came in regular cab & extended cab pickup models at the time because the square body crew cab pickup & SUV models were still in production which lasted up through 1991. In 1992, the crew cab pickup & SUV models were finally redesigned to the OBS design. 1988 was also the first year for the extended cabs which were on the OBSs & 1973 was the first year for the crew cabs which were on the square bodies.

    Dad had one that sounded similar. A little more deep of a sound, but now I've got an 89 k1500, and he's still got the old truck for parts, with the exhaust 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Love it mines a 93 sounds almost identical. Mine has edelbrock heads and cams soo it’s a bit raspier than yours but still gotta love those TBI engines though

    Put a 2 1/2 inch or 3 inch length resonator and it will get rid of that “slap” or “clapping noise” and really smooth out the noise.

    • @Jay_T
      @Jay_T  Місяць тому

      Absolutely. Sometimes it’s hard to balance out that perfect tone/volume on an exhaust set up…I never drove this truck hard enough for it to clap, just a few pulls/revs for the video. A 12” resonator really does make a huge difference though!

    • @Jay_T

      I did not. Seems the older OBD1 systems like this truck had are more resilient when doing mods as compared to the finicky sensitive OBD2 in the 96+ trucks (i believe thats when obd2 started?)

    I’m looking to replace my existing engine with a crate engines(sbc) I was recommended to go with long tube due to the torque of the engine but the 1988 4x4 couldn’t support but it seems u may have a mid header

    Very nice. This is a 4wd truck. Correct?
    I’ve heard of some people getting LT’s to fit, but I’m weary. To be honest, I’m even a little nervous about going with the midlengths :)

    • @Jay_T
      @Jay_T  9 місяців тому

      Yes, 4wd truck. These headers fit perfectly! The 3” body lift made installation & fitment alot easier for sure. Midlengths are the way to go in my opinion, but I have had a similar truck that was 2wd and I had long tubes put on it (pacesetter brand) and they fit good too…a little close to the passenger frame area & cross member behind engine, but nothing to worry about…

    Do these headers bolt up to the stock y-pipe? I have the same exact truck and I am looking into getting headers without having to get a complete custom exhaust system

    • @Jay_T
      @Jay_T  2 роки тому +2

      They do not bolt up without modifications to the stock Y pipe. The exhaust shop had to tweak my stock Y pipe a little...a little cutting and welding. Not much at all.

    You lose any power going with 3" ? I went with 2.25" recommended by the muffler shop . Its loud on the freeway with the drone with flows.

    • @Jay_T
      @Jay_T  Рік тому

      I would say no power loss…only because I have the 2 into 1 style exhaust. It’s like 2.25” from both headers and goes into 1 pipe that is 3” all the way back. If the exhaust was true dual with 2 pipes being 3” diameter each then I would say there would definitely be power loss unless you’re over 500 horsepower. This truck probably has 190hp to the wheels so no reason to go duals unless you just prefer the style.

    • @Jay_T
      @Jay_T  Рік тому

      I honestly don’t remember the size…maybe 285/75/15? they measured close to a 33” tire…and the brand of tires was Thunderer Trac Grip M/T I believe. Wheels were old American Racing wheels from the 1990’s.

    Can I ask please, im not an expert in trucks/cars at all, but i have a 1992 chevy that roars. It has a nice purr and all, but when it accelerates, i want it to be loud as shit and sound like a monster truck like yours. Like by that I mean when your reaching high speeds hauling ass. Do you know what gets that noise? Supercharged?? Or is it something more affordable do you think? I'm just 16 so I don't know all this 😂 For another example btw, listen to Sylvester Stallones 1955 Ford F100 in the movie the Expendables

    • @Jay_T
      @Jay_T  7 місяців тому

      The loudest change you can make is to delete the catalytic converter…other than that a high flow, straight through muffler or glasspack would be your second best option. The diameter of the exhaust pipe or pipes makes a difference on sound too.

    • @Jay_T
      @Jay_T  7 місяців тому

      as far as i know a high flow cat is still legal. I currently have one on my Miata and it made the exhaust slightly louder. I believe a 200 cell Flowmaster branded cat is what I have on it.

    • @Jay_T
      @Jay_T  2 роки тому

      Thank you! Only modification to fit the headers was cutting the power steering bracket. Easy to do. No other mods or internal engine mods needed. Even reused the stock 1 wire O2 sensor and it's been running great.
