I'm 80 and 40 years ago I thought the great music would always continue. However the truly good songwriting and creativity vanished by the 1990s, at least in my opinion. Even before the 1950s there were many consecutive decades of good music.

70,000 people. Open sky and forests around us. I was a recording engineer at that time, and I sat far away. The shock I got was the astonishing sound quality. Even Pink Floyd could not touch their ankles with sound quality. It is still the best sound quality I have ever heard in my entire life. Unbelievable. Mind you, this is coming from a recording engineer.

What a concert. I bought the CD when I saw the set list. But so great to be able to experience the visuals. There have been countless comments about most of the classic songs ... but what a brilliant move to bring Once Upon A Time In The West out of a 36-year retirement! And complete with the Stargazer introduction from the Alchemy concerts. I never thought I would hear a better version than that epic but with the addition of the brass instruments and the flute, this has to be the best rendition ever. Probably truer to the pared-back feel of the original than on Alchemy. Love it!

Just saw him in Vancouver last night. Best concert I have ever seen. 11 amazing talented guys on stage who combined can play 49 musical instruments. If you get a chance to see him... do so. You won't regret it.

I had almost given up on mainstream music in the '80's until Dire Straits showed up with "Sultans of Swing" and saw that the guitar virtuoso was alive and well in Mark Knopfler. Since DS disbanded he has shown himself to be not only a supreme guitarist, but a terrific songwriter as well, without having to resort to guitar pyrotechnics. A complete and wonderfully gifted musician. Loved his show in Portland years ago. Best wishes, Mark!!
Sultans of Swing was 1978, I thought I was listening to Dylan. My friend's dad (an OLD guy:-) bought the record. Refreshingly unique and restored by enthusiasm for mainstream too.

I agree 100%.Mark Knopfler introdused the Spanish guitar in rock music.There are many great guitarists in the world,but none who have written a bunch of great songs,and who have sung them whith a warm and tender voise.Besides Mark looks like a sensetive and kind person.What more can I say?Thanks for the music,man.

Saw this concert at the Greek Theatre in LA on 9/22/19. Have never seen him live before and am so glad we went. It was definitely a Top 10! show for me. Hope he comes back cause I will be there!!

OMG I wore this album out and bought it on CD when it was available, Mark is one of few all-time favorite guitarists but so unique you can't compare him to anyone.

I totally agree. There have been (and are) many brilliant guitarists but only Mark can make a guitar whisper, shout, cry and laugh! Mark can perform a brilliant guitar solo as part of a song but it is always appropriate to the song and not an excuse to'show off' as it would be with many other musicians.
Ken 1706 adrian belew is another underrated great great guitarist.

Saw Mark and Dire Straits when the band started out at the Rosengarten Music Hall in Mannheim, Germany. I was sold when I first heard them play “Sultans of Swing” on the radio in USA.
Will be seeing Mark at MSG in NYC 9/25/2019.

i had the pleasure to see him in Montreux 10 years ago. It's just amazing what he does... musically, personally... imagine what it takes to play tracks from a 4 decades lasting career and blend them into a 2 hour set that just drips of musical quality from beginning to end... and he still has a continuity and signature style that make you forget the 4 decades in laying between the songs. Many Thanks to Mark for all of it!
I have only seen Mark Knopfler perform live twice. Both performances were incredible and both were at the Greek Theater at UC Berkley. I foolishly did not attend last September. To hear him say his days of touring are over saddens me. I will definitely go to any future shows he hopefully will perform. This man simply gets better with age.
Love this fantastic musician. Every one of his songs tells a magnificent story -- some with words and some with just great melodies. The best musician of our time!

I'm in my fifties. I decided to enjoy a couple cold beers tonight and fired-up my sound system... started out rockin' out to Scorpions and some other heavy stuff, but as always, that last cold one just had to be accompanied by the masterful genius of this man! When playing Dire Straights, it's so nice to never have to use the skip function. Now, I'm playing this video on my outdated Galaxy S5 and it's the first time my phone has sounded like a stereo system. This is a real gem...what a collection of truly professional musical artists we have here, what a treat!!!

Some may argue there have been better guitarists, more technical, faster etc...But the guitar was made to produce music for us to enjoy, and nobody has ever used it to create such beautiful emotional songs as Mark. TBE ❤
