I have such a low bar for politicians right now. I was so genuinely impressed by his coherency and calmness that inside I was like "Garcetti for President" but really we've been condition lately by Trumps rambling incoherence and all his sycophants who race around in circles repeating themselves over and over instead of answering simple questions (I've seem some Dems do that too, to be fair). I've forgotten that it is normal to speak, no rant. It's normal to answer the question you were asked, not deflect. This interview was so refreshing.
I lived in Los Angeles as a kid and I'm glad to hear about all the great things Garcetti is planning for the city. I've always said I'd never move back there because you have to be rich in order to enjoy it but I may have to rethink that decision...or at least start visiting again since my family is still there.
Yeah. He’s actually bought & owned by corrupt Big Money. Amazing how speaking sentences makes people want this Neoliberal in Office. Even Californians don’t want him. He registers at a few percent in California. Lowest among politicians in California.

So you're complaining about the fact that he's just like every other politician? Being a politician is an inherently slimy business. Decent people have to accept campaign donations to get elected. That is a problem with our electoral system, but it doesn't necessarily mean that every politican is corrupt (the majority are though). I've lived in LA for most of my life, and I can tell you first hand that this guy has been great for LA. He brought us back from the verge of bankruptcy, has been the most transparent mayor we've had in my lifetime, and has gone out of his way to call out corruption. So what if you saw his name on some conspiracy website? He's done good things for my city and has been a breath of fresh air after decades of incompetent governing. Maybe you shouldn't open your mouth on subjects you have zero knowledge of. Of course, that is your right, but it makes you look like an ignorant buffoon.

I am the great-grandchild of immigrants and I completely agree with Mr. Garcetti. We are a country of immigrants and the current government policies are a utterly inhumane and should be abolished.

Mayor Garcetti really is an awesome, genuine person.
He's also a Navy veteran and he's done astounding things for the veteran community in Los Angeles. He had an initiative to hire 10k veterans in the city of LA and he met that goal almost immediately. I was at that veteran job fair when he announced the "10k Strong" was a success in it's first year (I think it was projected to be successful in like five.)
I got to meet him for an interview (I was just a camera operator still in film school.) He chat for a bit. He joked for a bit. My first name is also Eric and we're both veterans so we joked about that. The entire interview I'm just like "Hey Eric, do you mind if I get this light closer to your face?"---"not a problem, Eric. I can mark with the slate if that'd make things easier."---"Hell yeah, Eric. Thank you."
Then someone else, I don't know if they were part of his staff or who they were from, comes in and also tries calling him just Eric. He just gets an extremely cold as fuck face for half a second and goes "It's Mayor Garcetti" before going back to joking with me between takes. 10/10 would vote for POTUS.
SpyCheckingPyro Impressive work about the veterans. Admirable. But less admirable his behaviour when someone mistakingly assumes, „Eric“ is acceptable as he/she witnessed your interaction with him. He could have resolved that saying „Nope, Eric is just for this vet here...“ But cold facing and saying „It‘s Mayor Garcetti“ just makes him an ass.

Hearing him talk about mental health and homelessness really resonates with me. One of my nephews is schizophrenic and, as is common with many people with psychic pain (be it temporary situation or an endless struggle) self-medicates. After several years of being in and out of group homes, trying various medications to control the voices and hallucinations, and simply struggling to get through the day, he found the right combination. It was such a relief, and it was amazing to go to family events and not only have him be there, but to also be able to interact with an only slightly removed version of himself. He even found a part-time job. It was great! And then something happened...I don’t know what it was or what precipitated it, but he quit his job, went off his meds, and left his group home to live on the streets of San Jose (my family’s home town). Last I heard from my sister, he was still out there. Mental illness is so crazy hard to cope with and to get under control, and a large percentage of the homeless population are mentally ill. I don’t have any answers, just a lot of sorrow and pain for my sweet, wonderful, lost nephew.
Leaders like Eric Garcetti give me hope for the future of America.

I work for the City of LA right across the street from City hall. Mayor garcetti is a great guy. I can already see changes in LA. It’s booming, more police are out patrolling the streets and it’s feeling safer. If he runs, it would be great for our nation.

I'm an Angeleno and traffic and homelessness are huge problems here. I've been living here all my life, but in recent years both have gotten so bad. I really do hope the new metro lines and the new housing bill will help solve these problems, otherwise I will have to find somewhere else to live. Rent is crazy here and wages are so low. Minimum wage is $11, but a one bedroom averages 2,000 a month.

Bringing down homelessness is _one_ important issue. Where does he stand on making quality university education tuition free, establishing universal healthcare, establishing the metric system, basing the electoral system in the US on the _popular vote_ for a change, introducing second-language reforms into this country's public schools and doing all manner of _other_ things to bring us up to date with the rest of the first world?

What Mayor Garcetti is describing is called, Dual Diagnosis. A person suffers from a mental disorder and to feel normal, might resort to alcohol and/or street drugs, in turn becoming dependent upon them and now an addict with a mental disorder is born, ie Dual Diagnosis. L.A. is not giving the same attention to this increasing problem, which has been growing every year since the early 90's.

Amazing, you stop counting people you previously included, you will see a lower number. Wonder if LA has taken the same tactic. After the hep a out break last summer I would not be surprised.
