@Maya, As a Punjabi living in South India I agree with you. Also, please don't be offended but South Indian weddings are some of the most boring I've attended. Sorry🙏
@@rm3015 South Indian marriages have become boring as many fun rituals have been dropped. I am from North Karnataka and we have a ritual in which relatives of the bride hide a sacred pot in her house. Then a group of them comes and sings songs in front of the house in the night. The bride's parents bride etc have to match them in their songs and search for the pot while doing that also prepare to serve the relatives and friends refreshment. The group outside will give clues and after finding the pot we invite the group inside. Everyone sings more songs then the refreshments are served and everyone retires for the night . The groom's relatives also can do something like this for the groom.

@Time Machine they love to INTENTIONALLY call central-east ganga states as *nOrtH iNdiA,* but never even mention actual North above Delhi. The only time they remember actual GEOGRAPHIC North is when they have to cast those pale skinned sharp featured actresses in their movies lmao
It's the synchronization for me...when we did bhangra for our annual day it was such a chaos(because of course you can never match the energy) but it was fun👌❤
@@EagleOverTheSea Bhangra is enormously popular in the West - especially the UK. Any school's annual function starts with saraswati vandana( I was in a Convent and yes even the annual session there started with a havan) and it is incomplete without a peppy folk dance...in North India it's bhangra....and then in Punjab it's bhangra with fireworks in the background. And the x-mas in our school's is fun too... Santa comes on a horse cart and there are cakes and sweets for all.....independence day brings laddoos or meethi boondi/ badana/ nukti at petrol pumps and in schools. Oh Covid get out of our lives and let the kids enjoy what they are supposed to not what you have foisted on them.☹☹
Dance itself elaborates the strength, manliness, valour, comedy, charm, charisma at the same time. Punjab has long been the Protective sheild of India and their dance moves alone are enough to show that.
Although the very few punjabis that I’ve had the chance to spend time with are staunchy characters, I never seen them holding back when it comes to having fun and when it’s needed to be lightened up. They sure are a dynamite in that sense.
Fact: Youth festival has been must looked forward inter college 3 days function. Different competitions. I have been part of it for 6 years and trust me when I say theater, other dance and music practices start 1 or 2 months before. BUT I have seen bhangra auditions as soon as new batch starts and they prepare in the evenings for 6 months and day and night in last 2 months. They are athlete level fit and before performance their diets are arranged. Dozens of bananas and garbanzo beans are given. It's like preparing for a war in fun way❤ heck I enrolled for post graduation just to have 2 more years of this
Hi. Amazing performance. There are a lot of new steps done in the bhangra performance here......they grow the beard specifically for Bhangra performance if they are clean shaven.......
This one seems like University performance. In punjab Gidda and Bhangra are like other teams of university like hocky, cricket, and other sports. They prepare all year and if they have lecture shortage they can still sit in exam because of the team member. I am talked about the 90s.but not sure how it goes now.
Traditional bhangra( unlike bollywood bhangra 😂) needs lots and lots of strength and endurance in the legs, tendons, back, shoulders, lots of cardiovascular, respiratory and mascular endurance alongwith good choreography and co-ordination. Our ancestors could do this for hours. That's why Punjabi young men were considered the strongest among the Indian subcontinent, Iran,Iraq, mangolia, china , burma mayanmar, etc.
Live bhangra is SO difficult. The tempo has to be E X A C T across everything - the instruments, the vocalists, AND the dancers. And unlike recorded music, nothing is quantized - which means everybody has to be on point for 9 minutes straight. Y'all REALLY need to go to Bruin Bhangra when it comes back on the circuit!
I don't know why but I didn't like it. It looked a bit slow and boring and not full of energy. I'm used to seeing more energy in Punjabi people. (this might be a pretty unpopular comment)
because its the most traditional one. when performed in fairs, its not a 2-3 min job. the audience will make fun of u. to catch ur breath u have slower steps in between. this showcased the real one done on baisakhi and other fairs. not the hip hop bhangra mumbo jumbo people outside punjab are used to seeing.
