The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5 is a new rugged outdoor tablet that can be used outdoors when camping, on a factory floor, ion construction sites or even for the military. It's water and dust protected according to the IP68 standard and should withhold drops from 1.5m without a case and 1.8m with the included case.
I love that the Active 5 ships with the S Pen which works just as it does on all other S Pen tablets. We're getting a bright 8-inch display, enough processing power, up-to-date software and a removable battery.
What do you think of the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5?

I have been using the Galaxy Tab Active5 (Wi-fi US version) for a few weeks now. I love the 8-inch form factor. Just two cons so far: 1. Samsung Good Lock app not available. 2. No Always On Display (AOD). The included S Pen is not Bluetooth enabled, thus does not need charging. However, I think the form factor Tab Active5 S Pen is actually better than that of the Galaxy S22 Ultra and the S Pen Pro. I purchased the Active5 primarily for the larger screen (as compared to my S22 Ultra) to take work notes using Samsung Notes app. Before the Active5, I tried the Tab S9 and at 11-inches, it was just too big. Again, for me, the 8-inch form factor is perfect for a work tablet. Even with the Active5 classified as rugged, I ordered a rugged case from Armor-X. Yeah, I am the type of guy that does not get a new cell phone until I confirmed that Otterbox has a rugged case for it!
try to use fine lock instead of good lock😊
Good points there 👍
Well, after approximately 30 days with the Galaxy Active5, I returned it today. I just couldn't get it to really fit into my workflow. I have a Galaxy S22 Ultra, and aside from the smaller screen, it is a much better device.
I have the S22 Ultra and the Tab Active 5. For reading and short notes, the Active 5 is a great device! I was also one of the first consumer customer for the Tab Active 5 in America as well!
I upgraded (?) to the 5 from the 3 and will be going back to the 3. The new screen in the 5 does not allow you to wear polarised sunglasses in the horizontal position. A huge design flaw for an otherwise good product. The 5 is fine for labs, factories and restaurants, as per the promotional video, but not outdoors.
GPS accuracy is another key factor to consider. The track accuracy doesn't look good based on the Notebookcheck review. If your review confirms this, it would make this tablet less suitable for hiking and other outdoor activities.
Thankyou for bringing this to my attention. I was considering buying this for hiking activities in a remote area, and I don't want to end up with shitty GPS positioning and tracking in this scenario.
You're welcome. It seems perfect for hiking. The rugged case and replaceable battery made me want to use it instead of my phone on hikes. The larger screen and physical buttons would be great for using a navigation app (Locus Map). It is shame if the GPS accuracy problem is confirmed.
Thank you for the review. You have the best tablet reviews bc you're not trying to indirectly sell the device like most UA-camr channels!
Would it be possible to see the call capability of this device in your final test ? I'm wondering is this 5g model could 100% replace a smartphone by handling phonecalls as normal
I’m also in a very need of an answer to that question.
The Enterprise version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 5 Active will get OS updates for 8 years. Source: Sammobiles
Is it very heavy to carry around? I am thinking of buying it. Please advise.
It would be nice if you did the 'no battery mode' test.
Do you mean take out the battery and see if it powers up while connected to a USB-C PD cable and brick?
Exactly. It has that no battery mode.@@Funkteon
Excellent review. Shall wait for an in-depth review. Thanks 👍
You forgot that its a great android Digital Display thanks to the no battery mode im looking at this tablet for my sim racing setup because of that feature
Please do make a video comparison between this and the Active 3 (which is the one I have) because it looks to me it's not even worth the upgrade. Quite disappointed with Samsung....
Please the most important video you should be doing now is comparing Active 3 and 5. We are waiting for that please my friend
Does it have the new AI
Nice warm-up. Could you check in the full review if it is possible to connect this tablet with Galaxy Watch? From what I know, Samsung has limited such a possibility for other tablets.
Thank you for the content. 🥃
The price isn't friendly. Please can you do a side by side witb active 3?
Will there be a "pro" version of it?
Is the Tablet / pen pressure sensitive like its bigger collegues? can you vary pressure and tilt to get different strokes in painting apps? It did not really look like it in the video
Is it compatible with samsung smartwatches?
I have a question. When i bought my Tab Active 3, 128GB, LTE, Enterprise edition direct from Samsung USA, the tablet was missing the earpiece to be able to use it as a smart phone. All their ads seem to show the earpiece in the pictures. Why is that???
graphics kinda sucked actually on the tab active 3. I was not getting good framerates in my games, but the active 5 actually improved it by a wide margin
Can the Tablet directly make phone calls and send messages? According to the review done by the channel "Mike and Believe" he couldn't and sent the purchase back to Samsung. If i cannot use this tablet like a phone, I probably won't buy it. Thanks for your confirmation!
wait is it really true that you can't connect this to a display with a cable, whereas you could with the active 3? how can that be
😥 Its not Available in the PHILIPPINES 👀
Samsung's Active line confuses me because I feel like a market doesn't actual exist for the device. Not in the US, anyway.
Actually, it does. Anyone who needs a tablet that will not crack the screen if you drop on a hard surface needs this tablet. Most consumer grade tablets simply don't cut it. Also, the consumer grade tablets are expensive disposables because you can not replace the internal battery when it gets old and won't hold charge.
It's built for construction workers, medical professionals and other frontline staff
@@JedEckert I understand that, but I work in the construction industry in NY and I can tell you I have never saw any of my colleagues work around with a small tablet. I do walk around myself with a much larger tablet and pen for mark-ups. Seems very niche to me and I love 8 inche tablets.
This versus Legion Y700 2023
Im confused, it this a great successor to Active 3 but has worse compute performance? @10:15
Can you just put your phone sim straight into it i want to replace my phone
I want that answer too
@@leekuan2007 you can I bought one
Pretty poor choice to use a mid-sized smartphone battery in an 8" tablet... 5,000mAh is simply not enough for a screen this large.
Have you used the tablet to test out your theory?
Is the battery and case size identical for the active5 and active3?
are these 8" tablets a viable replacement for the fold series? Let's say they add dual speakers wireless charge, etc and give you the fully loaded flagship experience on the Tab Active Series,.. would that be a replacement option for the fold series? Or are they simply too big?
I might try switching or adding just because im getting tired of continually upgrading the fold to avoid broken inner screen only semms to last about 12 months
remember using bluetooth headphones will give good stereo for media and phone calls you wont have to hold the 8 inches to your head
❤
Mad late with this one
But it cost too d@mn much... smh'
Yeah, it's over $600 USD for the 5G version, which is way too much for a device with these specs.
This knife is illegal to carry in the funny land of Germans lol
Not a good choice i regret buying this
Give some reasons why.
I can't believe how uselessly lazy Samsung is that they release a tab that aside from a very minor CPU/GPU upgrade and making it 5G compatible IS HARDWARE AND DESIGN WISE THE EXACT SAME THING AS BEFORE. Form Factor, Screen, Bezels, Cameras, Speakers, USB2 interface.. nothing changed. Simply shocking.
PS - Thank you for the review, love your channel💖
My Tab Active 3 comes with USB 3.1
I just don't get why they downgraded the USB port on the Active 5. Does anyone know?
@@hopydaddy Because Samsung don't really give a flying fuck about their non-flagship devices... They're still releasing mid-range phones with no NFC or fast charging a decade after it was released on a shitload of phones. They also let certain country's telcos bully them into filling up their SSD space with Telco bloatware and single SIM trays on models that are meant to be dual SIM and dual standby. Their OLED screens get burn-in within a year or two and the USB-C ports on even their flagship phones can barely grip onto a cable after a year's worth of use.

What a bunch of nonsense.
