- This is an early test run made by the Dodge Charger Hellcat named General Mayhem built by the guys from the Roadkill show. Lots of fussing with the car prior to the race.
Just to be clear, this isnt a match race between the Roadkill Charger and the right hand drive Daytona in the left lane. That just happened to be what General Mayhem lined up with in the test run.
Of course it walked the Daytona. Did you see the size of those drag radials?
Robert Keeton it has run 10.39,its capable of 9 second performance.700 hp is a lot of horsepower
Are we talking about the General Mayhem or the Daytona? The General Mayhem is an entirely different beast now. No more motor home 440 with a Carter ThermoQuad, he's got fuel injected supercharged Hemi goodness! This thing has to be an absolute riot to drive now. I'm sure that Dodge did their magic on it and it's insane. This is one episode of Roadkill that I simply cannot miss because I'm sure that Hot Rod would not allow this transformation to go unaired. I wonder if they're doing a step by step build episode like when they swapped the engine in the Crusher Camaro? Maybe Tony Angelo can chime in...spoiler? Anyway, awesome bad ass car. Bare bones with balls to the wall performance...I see they had to add a roll cage as well to go beyond the 10 second barrier. Just sick.
+inagod the General Mayhem is faster then an actual hellcat because it is much lighter and those huge drag slicks
+Robert Keeton I looked on the channel last month and saw that Roadkill had uploaded a video and then deleted it. Now there's no trace of a video at all. I'm not sure if they uploaded a video that didn't format correctly, or uploaded a video they didn't want to.

Why that have to change the tail lights out
the taillights are unfortunately connected into the factory hellcat wiring system so to make everything work smoothly as quickly as possible, they just connected up the 2015 charger taillights.

in the word's of David Freiburger when it comes to the tail light's in General Mayhem "Fail"! The stock tail light's were such a iconic look for the 68 Charger.

Daniel Scott They had to put the '15 lights on the car, at least for the moment, they didn't have the time to work out how to get the engine to fire without all of the new cars electronics, so it has a full 2015 dash, steering wheel, and even an ABS ECU that's not actually doing anything.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Daytona and I would take it any day of the week, but man, General Mayhem has so much character. Plus, it makes the Daytona sound like a soft pur
I actually strongly dislike what they did with Mayhem. It was the definition of badass, raw and unrefined, built from whatever they had- literally, a body that's been standing for god knows how long, an engine from motorhome, the remainings of Lemons Fury and a lot of shiny new sponsor parts. It wasn't fast, it didn't handle but damn it had character. Now... It's just a Charger built by people who build Chargers for living, and it's just like any dragster Charger with modern Hemi in them, albeit with tattered bodywork. It's not Roadkill anymore. Literally a shell of former self. It was built to jump canyons, and now it never will, not with this amount of professional work, sponsor money and drag tyres in it. A Hellcat V8 in the Blasphemi or, even better, something like Gremlin or Macho Grande would've been much more appropriate.
Though I like totally Roadkilled rear lights. Bet they're held on with zip ties.

+TheLaXandro Its a TV show, not an art experiment...they need money to do the show, Dodge offered them money and wanted to stuff their Living Legend motor in the car...You would do the same
+TheLaXandro They probably had to do all of that to pass tech inspect and not tear the car apart, just look up regular car reviews review of a muscle car recently, if the car is flexing that much with 300 HP, just image it with 700.
and besides once this is over David will find someway to bring it back, and the motors now in another tatty beat up duster, so now its the DUSTER Mahemn and the Drag Hellcat charger.

Well yeah, it's got a supercharged HEMI running nitrous. And yet somehow it can't run 10's yet.
That fuckin daytona is right hand drive!!!! It pisses me off that hes left it that way, they ruined it by making it RHD, change it back to the American way!!!!!

+mlk4life That daytona is from Australia and its Right Hand Drive. so i am pretty sure it aint an actual daytona probably something like a Valliant mocked up to look like a Daytona, Valliants were baiscally your budget muscle car here in aus, and most were based off or made with dodge parts

That Daytona is a real Daytona, was imported to Australia by Kevin Monk in about 1973, then converted to right hand drive so it could be registered and was then heavily modded. Was eventually restored back to near stock by Kevin Monk's son Daniel, then sold back to the US in 2003.

the staging area was very tight, so the cars were backing up very close to the water, if not into it.
It's a bad ass car now. They yanked that motor home 440 out of it and stuffed a Hellcat Hemi in it. Oddly enough though, I didn't hear any supercharger whine...wonder why? I noticed the Hellcat emblem on the side.
Freiburger answered that on facebook. The exhaust is so loud you cant hear the whine

Clearly they didn't just leave that Hellcat engine stock. They must've put somethin special on top of it.
+Gerald5000 Yeah, the something special was stuffing it into half a car. A Hellcat Charger or Challenger weighs as much as a house thanks to being a fully built car with safety features and luxury options and you know, windows, and a radio, and paint. Opulent, elitist things like that :PGeneral Mayhem is a shell and a floor pan with a seven hundred horsepower V8 and drag slicks. Hell, even the engine has to be a weight reduction, there's no way the modern Hellcat motor weighs anywhere near as much as the old 440 they ripped out, same for a transmission in relation to the old Torqueflite...
***** Not likely, complicated as the engine management in that car is without real, non-Roadkill level (notice the '15 taillights wedged in, Roadkill) work the car probably wouldn't respond well to nitrous.
I don't know about the Daytona but it sounds more like a restoration from what I've heard so it just might not be that fast.
Daytona's weren't actually any faster in a straight line than a normal Charger R/T. If you had say a 440, 4-speed R/T and Daytona you had a dead heat until you got over about 100mph and the Daytona's aerodynamic touches took full effect.
The only car I have right now is a '68 Charger with a Daytona wing on it and I drive 40 miles a day to work and back. Seeing this vid gives me mixed feelings,,,lol

At Hallet Freiburger said the Roadkill Takes America episode should air around December or January. If they air it separately, November to January would be my guess.

+sswhaat The computer needed to run the Hellcat engine requires input from the tail lamps, for whatever reason. Roadkill just tossed in the 2015 lights. They plan on switching everything back once they work it out. Never doubt Roadkill.

Those are the Hell Cat tails from the donor car. There are boards inside them that communicate through the CAN bus system in the car and it won't run without them. They said they are going to try and get the boards out so they can put the stockers back in.

Frieburger sucks at drag racing. he does 2 poor attempts at a burn out then backs all the way up putting the two back tires in the water then he stages. so dangerous and stupid to stage a high 9 sec. drag car with wet slicks.
High 9's? Lol. It ran a week later at Tulsa and got its best et of 10.63. The burnouts were weak because of the traction compound on the track. The sound of the tires rolling sounds like you're pulling Velcro apart, very sticky. It looks like Finnegan didn't stop him before backing into the water.
