    Super clear explanation of the failed part and resulting leak, great job on this video. Those plastic valves are just prone to failure.

    • @HowToRV

      You are so right. When the valve failed, it was in a place that I could not see. I had water stains on the wall afterwords. there are so many better options out there and manufacturers reall need to look into ways tonot have these in the inside of your RV.

      @@HowToRV Yes that would be nice. I'd like to see them all using PEX. At least offer it as an option.

    You can usually buy those garden hose vacuum breakers (aka anti-siphon valve) at Home Depot. The only concern with you method is that when you sell the trailer the next owner may not realize that need to use the vacuum breaker valve. They could connect directly and risk contaminating the water supply! My solution was more expensive but better for future owners. I replaced the junk plastic vacuum breaker with a good quality brass version. It’s a Watts LF288A valve. It can be purchased at most plumbing supply stores. I also had to use a couple male to male fittings because the LF288A has female threads.

    Thanks for the video, great job. I like how you present your videos, one thing you may want to check on. Should the atmospheric vacuum breaker be installed vertically not horizontally or even at an angle. The system works off of gravity and water pressure, water pressure shut the valve to allow water to flow to the system, gravity opens the valve to allow air into the system to prevent backflow. You should be able to search for installation of a atmospheric vacuum breaker on UA-cam.

    This is happening on my bullet 1700bh, the city supply side. I think there is some type of check valve behind where you hook up the main water hose inside under the main bed/storage area, it can seep water.
    I read something earlier elsewhere about the water pump, I turned it on a few seconds even though I never use it. It quit leaking for now, I also lowered the water pressure coming in.
    Did this when I first got the camper, then it quit for about 6 months, no leak. I did turn on/off water pump switch back then also, but I don't use my water storage tanks-I live in my camper full time (hurricane Ida destroyed house). Also the drain hose(s) underneath are open.
    Might need to get a plumber to re-plumb the city water connection and inside with brass fitting, something more robust. (his family live in their camper while building their house, he is a great plumber, uses very good fittings.

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  Рік тому

      First off I am sorry to hear about your house and I have been praying for each and every one of you. As for seepage, I have had issues where water pressure got to high and pushed through hose connections. The connections just aren’t designed for high pressures like a home. Replumbing could be an answer but keep in mind the need for flexibility of you water lines while going down the road.

    Great video and explanation of the breaker issue we all have or will have. My question is by removing the breaker at the high point will adding it at a lower point cause a sucking pulling all the water from the flush line back up the line to the breaker on the outside?

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  9 місяців тому

      As long as you black tanks empty and the flush inlet is higher than the tank then you should be fine. Just make sure that you are using the water breaker that I showed in the video. Oh and never use th hose for the black water flush for anything but that.

    Just be leary of thebwater that comes out the siphon valve.... That is black water that ends up running down the side of the camper. Doubtful that it actual pulls up dirty water from the tank but it has the capability of doing it.

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  7 місяців тому

      I have tried to purposefully siphon backwards from the black tank and have yet been able to make that happen. I have heard of folks saying it is possible but I can not sem to makeit happen. That being said though, I domake sure that the black tank is completely empty before disconnecting the hose.

    My thoughts exactly. Told me neighbor why on earth doesn't the camper.come with an antisiphon hookup the brass piece you have. Out it outside the camper.and never ha e these cheap plastic pieces of crap freeze etc. My water source is a good 40 ft. From my camper with a hose pipe by the tome.i got to my camper.water was coming out from under my shower. Yes my vacuum breaker.black thingy was in my camper wall behind shower. Got carpet wet in my bedroom.
    I used a 90 degree brass elbow (bought a brass check valve but it made it extremely hard to thread the nuts (plastic) on it.
    After I got this fixed ND began running water through the sewer flush I heard nothing so I took septic hose off black tank all I had was a tiny stream of water. Well that ticked me off and then researched the sewer flush nozzle. It is nothing g but a metal nipple with ti y holes located near where your sensors are for water level.
    I decided that couldn't be doing g a good enough job so I bought a Flush King reverse back flow septic cleaner. Reverse flush will remove.paper that you never knew you had. I am NOT going through this vacuum break behind my.shower again, hopefully.
    Now my brass check valve works backward to this balaclava vacuum breaker if you decide to use one. You will see an arrow on the check valve showing you water direction.
    I think my shower nipple is clogged. If yours isn't do what thos guy said, make yourself a 90 degree pvc connection and use an anti siphon at your sewer flush inlet. Save big money too. That dang.black thingy is almost 50 $ and heaven forbid water settles in it over winter you're in this mess again. What rocket scientist thought thos was a great idea? I'm female I think I would known better.

      Thank you for explaining the details in your comment. I would have to agree with you. As water damage is a major concern, you would think that manufacturers would invest more in anything that could potentially ruin your rv.

    Great info! I first leaned about vacuum breakers when I bought my current house and had the one on our sprinkler system leak. Makes me wonder why they put that under the bathroom cabinet inside the RV. I'll have to keep an eye on that from now on when I flush my black tank.

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  3 роки тому +1

      I agree, I do not understand why they didnt come up with something located on the outside of the RV. I have heard of a lot of different folks having the same issue.

    • @computerfixer06
      @computerfixer06 3 роки тому

      @@HowToRV now that I think about it, vacuum breakers need to be at a high point in the system, so that's probably why they put it under the sink instead of down by the tank. I've noticed on other rv walk-throughs the black tank flush port is on the same side as the bathroom, I suppose so they can locate the vacuum breaker like that. I always wished it was on the business side rather than the party side but now it makes more sense.

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  3 роки тому

      @@computerfixer06 you have a good point. I would think that they could build in the breaker at the fitting on the outside. Just my thoughts

      First time using the black tank flush this weekend, it wasn't bad but it leaked some while in use. Thankfully I already watched this video and had a towel under that vacuum breaker. Going to do your bypass before our next trip and I already ordered the external hose connection one you suggested so it won't be a problem going forward 👍

    • @HowToRV

      When I took out mine, I got luck y. The waiter line going to it was long enout and at the right angle to screw in the same place that the breaker was already in. I did not need to modify anything. I unscrewed the insinde water line coming from the outside connection. I unscrewed the line coming from the breaker that goes to the tank. Then put the tank line where the outside connection is. I am guessing that most people wont get this lucky but I did.

  • @hrios75

    Why does this happen? Are we supposed to use a pressure regulator on the flush intake ?

    • @HowToRV
      @HowToRV  2 роки тому

      Inside the back flow preventer is a spring loaded flap. The spring is compressed closing the system so that the water can only go to the tank. Once you shut the water off, the spring pushes the flap back into place allowing air to get in and the rest of the water to go back to your tank and not back into the hose. What happens most of the time with these is that the flap gets stuck and water can go into your camper. That is what happened to mine. I do not think it had to do with pressure but regulating may help.
