Great video. Totally agree on the Chaffee stuff! His rhythm & meter patterns book is also one to consider getting. It's one of the best for developing technique, dynamics & a thorough understanding of subdivisions. Gary said that he used Vinnie Colaiuta & Steve Smith as guinea pigs for his books when they were at Berklee. 🥁
Another one that deserves to be highlighted is "Advanced Concepts" by the late great Kim Plainfield.
Kim was the faculty chairman at Drummers Collective & a professor at Berklee.
Advanced Concepts is my desert island book. If I was allowed to only practice from one book for the rest of my life, it would be that book.
It is filled with page upon page of advanced material for Brazilian, Afro Cuban, Funk & Jazz. His study on rhythmical concepts for soloing and improvised playing has got to be some of the most technical and challenging material I've seen.
Kim was undoubtedly a legend. His book is a MUST HAVE. 📙🥁

Totally agree about the Chaffee book. If you're allowed to have only one drum book , this would be it, imo.

Wonderful Video...thanks for the inspiration for new books. I have Stick Control and man you can spend the rest of your life with this book especially if you start to divide all patterns on the whole drumset e.g. as fills

Any recommendation for someone to learn to read sheet music? That seems to be a prereq for a lot of these materials. Thanks!
