People really do change after meeting Zenyatta xDD, the moment I saw Symmetra meeting Zenyatta in canon lore I knew she was gonna have a drastic personality change The lines that points it out the most is of course “ from imperfection, we build a new world” and a quote that Symmetra learned from Zenyatta “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” And it also expressed throughout the short story when Symm rebuilt an important statue in the temple with yellow light and leaves cracks on the statue ( of which embodied what the temple stands for, love and unity, imperfection )… rather than Vishkar’s blue light. She now values others perspective too.
She's definitely becoming more aware of her situation, otherwise why would she even ask Hanzo if he knew he was gonna make the right decision to leave his clan? Also with Sombra, why did she ask her if she knew anything about Lumerico and Vishkar? Can't wait to see her story progress.
I really hope we expand more on her lore because right now it feels like shes rethinking a lot of her actions and decisions and I hope the others help her out so she can pave her own way

But in the comic she showed herself to be open to Omnics and got along with Zenyatta well because she was trying to right Vishkar Corporations wrongs. I kinda think the 180 is because they wanted Symmetra to be a good guy, because even her other OW1 interactions kinda came off as snobbish and super loyal to Vishkar while OW2 Symmetra seems to be more "quirky" and free-minded
We all rallied behind the "Give Symmetra a friend" in Overwatch 1 because her voice lines were always so defensive and negative. She'd never try to even hold an actual positive conversation, and burned every opportunity to form an actual friendship with the other heroes. In Overwatch 2 she's really bloomed and I've never seen anything like it. I'm glad we get to see her naturally develop and come to terms with herself after her encounter with Zen. She seems more comfortable to hold conversations without being defensive and jumping the gun.

Symmetra and Hanzo DO have a potential parallel. Sounds like she's unsure of her place in her organization, and her time with Zenyatta could set her on a path of redemption. Hopefully she won't end up as gloomyxas Hanzo is. Maybe if Lucio can chill, they could be friends?
Sym really is pulled in multiple ways. Vishkar high-ups are buddy-buddy with Talon, she spent time with the omnics in Nepal, she's building a relationship with the outcast shimada, all while battling her own moral compass to do good for the world in her own way. She would likely have hangups joining any particular side (overwatch is tempting... But Lucio is there), which is why I love her so much!

I really like her lines with Hanzo and Sombra some hints she might not be satisfied with Vishkar anymore. Not to mention her friendly lines with Mei, Echo, and Zenyatta were very sweet. She seems to be opening up a lot more and I love that for her.
As someone who is possibly autistic (can't afford to get tested but has suspicions) and has autistic friends, I'm glad the voice direction changed a bit in ow2! Sometimes autistic people can sound pretty monotone/flat, but I always felt in 1 that Sym was a little *too* flat in how she talked sometimes- felt a bit forced (not anything against Anjali!). In 2 I ADORE the extra pride you can hear in her voice, or how her voice softens a bit like when she talks to Zenyatta. Or even with Mei and how she's just a touch happier to talk about how she stims with her light/snowflakes. I love how they changed her tone/inflections in a more subtle way. I love her so much and Anjali REALLY knocked it out of the park!

Symmetra was the reason I decided to play Overwatch all those years ago, and has been my favorite character ever since. Her redesign is so beautiful, I can hardly stand the wait until launch!
I really like how all of the voicelines are pretty much civil with each other, unlike most of Overwatch 1, like they are a team trying to understand the others prospectives. I like that character development and hope we see more of it!
I think symmetra’s arc is going to be very interesting. On one hand, Vishkar is order, and it gives a lot of structure to her life. Plus, she’s implied to use their technology to stim. Without Vishkar, she could lose quite a few of the tools that she’s accustomed to. And as an autistic person myself, I know that’s a big deal. She COULD steal the technology, but is that something she’d be able to do? For her entire adult life, she’s found security in order, structure, and law. If she were to steal tech from Vishkar when she left, she might feel like she’s going against that. On the other hand, Symmetra can tell that Vishkar is incredibly evil. Like, obviously. I’m imagining her making a plan to leave well in advance, but something happens that she can’t stand and she runs away early. Perhaps she was planning on going to Zenyatta… but she’s stationed in Rio when she can’t take it anymore. And so she goes to the only person she knows that will for sure be against Vishkar… Lucio.

Symmetra is an incredibly complex and thoughtful character. Her spectrum makes her seem snobbish, which sincerely i think she is, but her desire to do good for the world comes from a sincere place of empathy. She clearly respects expression, thoughtfulness, and the effort of others, and maybe not loudly she too perceives the incongruities in her ways and those she decided to work with. I don't feel she is completely wrong or right, and the balance of idea and action in her case is masterfully well done. Using D&D alignments she is on the neutral pending to the lawful but she clearly has tints of other opinions that paints her being and makes form impressive characterization, more so when you consider the other diversity of opinion and reaction of other characters have about her or at least those she works with.
I’m glad everyone else is seeing what I’m seeing from her character. Interacting with Zen really did change her, an interesting thing because apparently anyone who engages him is changed significantly, permanently. I wonder how they’ll expand on her going forward.
I think Lucio’s mere presence could be quite frustrating for Symm at times, I could imagine that she suffers from sensory overload due to her Autism and being around him would make it difficult for her to concentrate effectively, just a little head cannon I always had 💙 Can’t wait to see the direction her story goes, I’ve always thought she was one of the more interesting yet overlooked characters x
She always had some doubt of Vishkar even in ow 1 but hearing the new ones make me really wanna see a symmetra animated short where she finally decides to leave Vishkar.

I fell like sym was really honestly mislead by the vishkar corporation. She made the lightbending technology to really help improve the world and they fed her that dream so she inherently trusted and aligned with them, but now it seems as though she is becoming aware of what is happening. Specifically with the voice line of “this us such gross misuse of my technology” when waiting for the fight to start. She never wanted it to being injury or disorder, and now she’s seeing that that is all vishkar uses it for.

She has gotten so much more chill. I like the way she doesn't really have any proper hostility towards anyone, well except maybe Lucio.
Honestly, she wasn't as hostile towards Lucio as I expected. I can definitely see her personality change compare to the first game

I fell like sym was really honestly mislead by the vishkar corporation. She made the lightbending technology to really help improve the world and they fed her that dream so she inherently trusted and aligned with them, but now it seems as though she is becoming aware of what is happening. Specifically with the voice line of “this us such gross misuse of my technology” when waiting for the fight to start. She never wanted it to being injury or disorder, and now she’s seeing that that is all vishkar uses it for.
