Interesting idea! This could be a good self-instruction aid for beginners as they gain confidence. I also encourage x-c skiers to go downhill skiing with alpine skis because it boosts their confidence and teaches them how to control their speed when they return to nordic skis.

Good suggestion. You know, it is not a crazy idea to mount cross country ski bindings on old downhill skis and spend some time skiing down hills with that equipment. Downhill skis will not perform well as a touring ski, but a downhill ski with good contour and a soft flex along with metal edges offers especially new skiers the opportunity to learn snow-plow, stem-christie turns and Telemark turns with confidence and less falls.
