Funny how the prequels managed to do the evils of war profiteering and selling arms to both sides better than the sequels, who put it front and center in episode VIII.
That’s the whole story of them. In a sense, Lucas owes Disney a great debt because we all now look back on the prequels with a realistic fondness due to how bad the sequels were.

I’m not sure if it’s a size problem so much as it’s a competition problem. Many of these corporations had monopolies that the Republic should have broken up as a part of its economic renewal and trade plan. The outer rim would have benefited from a combination of investment from established companies as well as upstart firms with fresh capital. Plus, once war broke out the Republic could afford to cast out certain corps because there would be other options. Companies can be huge but still controllable so long as there is a competent competitor.
@@jake2011rtwhile you are certainly right that competition was a huge factor the two things are closely related. I think that the Republic should have gone back to the beskar standard once they nationalised the banks, bringing much needed stability to the currency. Although this wouldn't allow the mass printing of credits later on when they converted to the empire
A Rhydonium or Coaxium backed economy can be a good alternative if you secure a stable and regular explotation. Though you will not avoid structural recessions.

If Padme knows about who Palpatine really is, she will not say that the true victors in the Clones Wars are these megacorporations. But she did not, so she said that. I remembered that she said it one time but I forgot which episode.
It seems stupid that a government would allow their arms production to be left up to corporations. That should be handled by a government run entity, not beholden to profit margins and shareholders.
To be fair up until the Clone Wars they never needed a large standing army and so wouldn't have the contracts in place, hence why they just continued to use the ones the Kaminoan's/Palpatine set up with the Clone Army. The whole system was already in place and it was just easier at the time to go along with weapons from a 2nd party.
I have a question. I had rewatched the scene from palpatine fighting mace windu. From what I think I see, palpatine’s lightsaber fell off the window when windu managed to hit his Saber off. So I’m wondering how did palpatine got his lightsaber back in the fight when yoda fought with darth sidious
1. He had two sabres (there's even a TCW scene where he fights Maul and Savage with two sabres). 2. He might have sent the staff and clones to look for both sabres (Mace's and his, although I am sure he didn't say it was his) - it's a possibility. But he definitely had 2 in canon.

This is just one of many reasons the Jedi deserved to fall. They were pretty much indirectly serving these greedy corporations.
