In the 70's as a young Dutch Australian I worked on the River Rhine barges from Rotterdam to all the inland ports and I always loved to return to the amazing harbour of Rotterdam with its incredible port activities. The 382 metre-long , 124 metre-wide vessel is the world's largest vessel by gross tonnage, and since September 2021 also the largest floating sheerleg in the world. It was built in South Korea by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in 2013 at a cost of €2.6 billion. It commenced offshore operations in August 2016.

Think you’ll find it’s the largest ship built, it can displace up to 1 million tons fully loaded after all. They did have plans to build a bigger one all thanks, rightfully I think, to the government demanding oil and gas companies remove their derelict platforms from the North Sea rather then leave them there to rot. I would say ever built even, if it beats Knock Nevis?

Is it me. Or are modern day ships just looking for more and more cargo space. And bridge and crew accommodation just an after thought.? I’ve seen some of new maersk new ships,accommodation right up into the bow, I just see a block of flats running into a typhoon,or hurricane, any body been to sea,those system’s can throw up some big waves.yes I’ve been to sea,and a couple hurricanes, seeing that wave come at you is very scary. And very unforgiving.
