As someone who was born and raised in NYC and then moved away to get my pilot's license, this really resonated with me. My career in aviation never materialized but I still miss it. And I miss home as well. Thanks for this. It was pretty awesome.
sweet as video bro. another excellent helicopter clip with lots of angles and atc, hope your parents had a nice time and are missing the worst of the kiwi winter
I'm from Southern California and I just visited ny in March. I stayed in the lower east side and in this video, I was actually able to spot the apartment where I was staying, right next to the Williamsburg bridge! I want to go back so badly!!! Thanks for posting Nick!
Just listening to the chatter is inspiring. Thanks for posting these. I only watch your helicopter uploads. Great work. May The Lord cover your flights.
They used to land copters on the Pan Am building which is on top of Grand Central Terminal, those were the days. This was a sweet gift for your parents.
Nice video Great view of where I grew up and the place that shaped who I am. FYI 8.4million is the population of NYC, 20 million in NY metro. Manhattan (that little island as your mother adorably put it) has 1.6 million people living on 23 square miles or 71,000 people per mile. I used to blow people's minds when I told them there are more people in the empire state building than the city I moved to. Manhattan has a higher daytime population (4 million) than the entire state I live in.
as a flyer, the ATC was the most fun for me. You have to you the procedures like the back of your hand before you enter that jungle. Not a trip you send the new guy on.
An Irish Captain and a Kiwi FO, They should have been flying backwards upside down with there shirts on back the front. Cool video, scary but cool all the same. Thanks Nick
Excellent Nick keep the Chopper vids and reviews coming ( would've loved to hear the start of the turbine) . I am loving this stuff. Not big into cars though except the Model S Tesla. Hey Nick how about a review on the Model S? Yeah the new P90D?
Damn .I was in NY city for two weeks in the late 90's (great tourist city, btw... don't believe the "Ny'ers hate everyone", they don't.) Never thought to take a chopper tour. Thanks, Nick! That's a completely different view than I saw and I can't believe how crazy the ATC is!
Hey Nick, Not a helicopter guy but just wanted to let you know the Top Gear youtube channel just posted a video about the next Top Gear host selection. They are saying no driving or stunts, just a video of you and your personality. Give a shot man see what happens. Oh and the deadline is Monday the 20th by midnight (I think GMT) so you don't have a ton of time. Good Luck :=)
11:35 is where every Presidents Helicopter land when coming to NY. They normal have any where between 2 and 4 helicopters landing either near the H or between the 6 and 12 spot. My office window over looks this.
Great vid. I've only done the exclusion at 1200 so it's interesting to see the vantage point of being above the buildings not alongside them! I've got a question, what camera do you use, and what lens, for the photos? And did you edit them in any way (or shot in RAW, etc). Thanks!
Just a minor correction : You flew above the Hudson River Corridor (ceiling at 1100), not above Bravo (Bravo starts at 1100 feet). You are IN Bravo when you flew at 2K.
SgtRevan Not on the East river. 1099 to be exact. Hudson river 1299 - you are correct. East river where he went up would be 1099 until Roosevelt island. Bravo clearance with LGA is the way to go ...
Nick, would you be so kind and tell me what was the total cost and duration of this trip? Btw, very nice video! (and gift for parents too ;) ) All the best
I'm not sure what is a more stressful? The flying or the guys at ATC? On the one hand the ATC guy can sit and sip coffee. But the weight of responsibility is CRAZY. I hated being near SFO "TCA" as a newb heli pilot. Yeah, it was a TCA back then. ;) LOVE the video though. I have never been to NY.
Cool trip Nick - thanks' for sharing it with us. I was wondering if your dad ever needed to use crop dusting for his farm? If so, is it done via helicopter or fixed wing mostly in NZ? Just curious.
Nick Murray You've got a smart pop. Maybe that's where you developed your "bug" for flying. Seriously though, you've led quite an interesting life and thanks' again for letting us in!
Hey i like you're video's man just one question what's class B is that a special license or and also i really love helicopters a few years ago i went in a robenson r22 i loved it my dream helicopter is a EC145 T2
Nick, this is your best video. Btw, my gay friends were watching with me. Even though I told them that you have been asked , and you answered that no you aren't gay, they would like for me to ask you if you would reconsider. Yes, they are serious. #dontshootthemessenger.
How hard is it to get a civilian pilot course that can certify you to own/fly a helicopter? When leaving the military I plan on saving up to buy an R44 or 300C, I assume the courses are 6 months to a year?
What? The UK is one of the best pales on earth. I have lived in both the US and the UK and I will choose the UK over the US. Remember, you get Europe at your doorstep too, that's had to beat.
Skyrim Lord I would like to order a custom color 'Forest Green' but only if it does not add months to the order as these things sometimes do. If not it will be dark blue again as it is really the only standard color I like.
Just looked up that Forest Green color, it is a very strange one for a 911 if you ask me. I personally like the blue much more. The green looks like the color they decorate Irish pubs with :)

Wow that's crazy Nick! I would be so nervous about flying around NYC with it being so busy! Much respect to you man!
Just listening to the chatter is inspiring. Thanks for posting these. I only watch your helicopter uploads. Great work. May The Lord cover your flights.
Thanks Nick for bringing us with you in this tour around Manhattan ^^
Best aerial tour of NYC I've ever seen! Loved the stills with labels! Keep up the great work!!!
They used to land copters on the Pan Am building which is on top of Grand Central Terminal, those were the days.
This was a sweet gift for your parents.
I am really enjoying your flight videos just as much as the car reviews. Great stuff Nick, thanks!
Great Video Nick, That was awesome over my home town..... Cheers
Amazing video and flight of the Bell 206! Loved the addition of ATC.
Great vid Nick. Must get to NY with my parents too. Not too far from London!
Nice video Great view of where I grew up and the place that shaped who I am. FYI 8.4million is the population of NYC, 20 million in NY metro. It's about damn time you do the F- type (coupe) Nick!
A nice Irish pilot, great video Nick beautiful weather for it.
man thats a really beutiful view. I enjoy all of your videos. thank you so much nick!
Loved the views and ATC! Haven't been to NYC in quite awhile, this was such a cool view.
Thanks for sharing, really great Nick
Great video. Love ATC transmissions.
Excellent video of operations in the vicinity/ within the Hudson Corridor...
Fantastic video Nick, I really wanted to do a chopper flight when I was in NYC looked extremely busy!
Superb Nick. Great job. :)
as a flyer, the ATC was the most fun for me. You have to you the procedures like the back of your hand before you enter that jungle. Not a trip you send the new guy on.
Andrew Lewis Yes that ATC is intense
An Irish Captain and a Kiwi FO,
They should have been flying backwards upside down with there shirts on back the front.
Cool video, scary but cool all the same. Thanks Nick
Something I have always wanted to do, since my wife is from new York. Maybe one of these years, thanks for sharing
Excellent Nick keep the Chopper vids and reviews coming ( would've loved to hear the start of the turbine) . I am loving this stuff. Not big into cars though except the Model S Tesla. Hey Nick how about a review on the Model S? Yeah the new P90D?
Alright now we want an AH-64D Apache review. Make sure you demonstrate how to use the hellfire missiles
Hahahah this comment made my day!
No I'm just kidding, I don't get anything of what you wrote.
Sick! I love this video!
the controller on this video sounds like the guy who controlled Sullys flight that landed in the hudson
This was excellent. So my understanding was that it's a vfr free for all below the bravo shelfs and around the surface bravo? Hope to fly there soon!
Damn .I was in NY city for two weeks in the late 90's (great tourist city, btw... don't believe the "Ny'ers hate everyone", they don't.) Never thought to take a chopper tour.

That's crazy how they have to check in every 5 seconds to let the airtraffic control people know where they are going
11:35 is where every Presidents Helicopter land when coming to NY. They normal have any where between 2 and 4 helicopters landing either near the H or between the 6 and 12 spot. My office window over looks this.
Thanks for sharing Nick

SgtRevan Canon 5D S with 135mm f2,0 on most of these photos. Normal JPG not Raw
Wow great video, thank you for sharing
There is tremendous vibration. I have once ridden UH-1 Huey. I was really nervous and I was in a bad mood.
Just a minor correction : You flew above the Hudson River Corridor (ceiling at 1100), not above Bravo (Bravo starts at 1100 feet). You are IN Bravo when you flew at 2K.
alim10004 Ops yes your are totally correct
alim10004 Ceiling of the exclusion is actually 1299 ft but regardless yeah he was in the B.
SgtRevan Not on the East river. 1099 to be exact. Hudson river 1299 - you are correct.
East river where he went up would be 1099 until Roosevelt island. Bravo clearance with LGA is the way to go ...
Cool video
Great video! Wow, such a busy area! Just curious, are those lens hoods for the go pro? Where did you get them?
Nick, would you be so kind and tell me what was the total cost and duration of this trip? Btw, very nice video! (and gift for parents too ;) ) All the best
Nice flight! Does the audio clip like that in your headsets or is that because of whatever was recording it?
messfunkt Yes that is pretty much just as we hear it in our headsets. This was recorded directly from the headset feed.

Yes he did a bit of heli spraying, on the avocados.
Nick Murray You've got a smart pop. Maybe that's where you developed your "bug" for flying. Seriously though, you've led quite an interesting life and thanks' again for letting us in!
Loved this video!
sigh.....they would also like to meet Tui. In person. (so sorry about this....)
ATC makes my brain hurt - I thought LA was bad =)
Muy buen video....Felicidades desde Spain.
It reminded me of my childhood favorite movie "Blue Thunder" (sorry for my english, if i did mistake somewehre=))
dude. i cant imagine that kind of traffic, as a pilot or if i was atc.
01:37 That sounds like the guy from the Bell 407 vid.
It is
A lot of Irish flying in the NYC area haha!
Hey i like you're video's man just one question what's class B is that a special license or and also i really love helicopters a few years ago i went in a robenson r22 i loved it my dream helicopter is a EC145 T2
+, EVO X MR Class B is a controlled air space, you need permission to enter and every move you make must be okayed by the ATC
+Nick Murray ok thank you i really like you're helicopter videos because you can here the radio and you helicopter videos are very thorough
Excelent video!!!!
Nice video! I'm from brazil and always have curiosity to see NY by air. Congrats
Nick, this is your best video. Btw, my gay friends were watching with me. Even though I told them that you have been asked , and you answered that no you aren't gay, they would like for me to ask you if you would reconsider. Yes, they are serious.
#dontshootthemessenger.
I wish, no woman my life, my god think how relaxing that would be! : )
Awesome!
Could you share approximately how much a flight like this could cost?
Whauw did is amazing
And I thought Charlie airspace was busy...
While planes may be required go into a holding pattern, does ATC ever tell helicopters to just stop moving, and hover to allow other traffic through?
Being an air traffic controller would suck
How hard is it to get a civilian pilot course that can certify you to own/fly a helicopter?
When leaving the military I plan on saving up to buy an R44 or 300C, I assume the courses are 6 months to a year?
135L on the canon for stills?
Such a amazing place, unfortunately i was born in the UK, some day i will move to the US
What? The UK is one of the best pales on earth. I have lived in both the US and the UK and I will choose the UK over the US. Remember, you get Europe at your doorstep too, that's had to beat.
ATC, do they kick you to other ATCs automaticly? you talked with different towers yes?
+Lain Kojima Mostly you stay with LGA
top video :-)
dat view tho
Where's Tui?
7:18 Andrew becomes Irish
amazing :)
The pilot only wears one glove?
Greg Dalton He sings Michael Jackson songs.
Nice views! Is your co-pilot Irish?
What color is your 991.2 going to be Nick?
Skyrim Lord I would like to order a custom color 'Forest Green' but only if it does not add months to the order as these things sometimes do. If not it will be dark blue again as it is really the only standard color I like.
Just looked up that Forest Green color, it is a very strange one for a 911 if you ask me. I personally like the blue much more. The green looks like the color they decorate Irish pubs with :)
Skyrim Lord Yes it is a dark green similar to Porsche Jet Green, I would also consider the green they had on the 993 models
Doug Ashby he he, I think you need to find peace with it : )
Nick Murray looks like the old irish green
sweeeet
Considering the AMG GTs?
RAJohnson713 He needs 4 seats.
***** true, is it his only car?
RAJohnson713 He has a Golf too.
***** then why does he need 4 seats?
RAJohnson713 It's what he's stated in the past. I guess he enjoys the practicality just in case.
