    Thank you very much, Joy! This was informative and note to mention helpful. I mostly have pains in my right (cramps) and I'm holding my bow correctly. May you please explain why this pain happens even so? It usually happens when I'm playing a fast piece

    • @JoyLeeViolin
      @JoyLeeViolin  4 роки тому +2

      You might be holding the bow too firmly when playing fast passages. I suggest that you try to allow the bow to fall on the string and only guide the directions with with your hand. I'll try to make a video about it. Happy music making!

    I can not rotate my hand that far without my thumb support, that's why my left hand gets tired so quick. This is frustrating.

    • @JoyLeeViolin
      @JoyLeeViolin  Рік тому +2

      Dear Ali, try to see if you can hold the violin without the left hand and try to play some open string without LH. This will give your LH a bit of assurance/freedom and when you place LH to the normal position, you might be able to release some tension on LH including the left thumb. I hope you can try it. Happy practising!

  • @infinitepawer

    It's funny I can play any song that I know very freely and relax if what I holding is just a stick of wood or something similar but the tension occur when it is a real violin, just don't know why.

      make sure that your chin is whats holding your violin not your hand that might be whats causing that

  • @raquelvasquez5152
    @raquelvasquez5152 Рік тому +1

    This is really interesting. However, as I tried it out I seem to have another problem, which is that my instrument ends up bouncing as well as my bow as i release tension. Do you think it has to do with another problem that I may have? It also makes me feel like it's seems to keep me from being able to reach the lower strings and higher positions, which ends up sounding scratchy. I can definitely feel like this exercise helpful. My arm feels a lot more relaxed. I just think it's probably keeping me from being able to keep up what I was already able to do. But, I definitely want to get rid of my bad habits, so I want to know what you think.

    • @JoyLeeViolin
      @JoyLeeViolin  Рік тому +1

      Hi Raquel, you are on the right track with analyzing carefully the level of tensions on both hands. It is a precise, everchanging fine balance between relaxation and control which will allow you to control, yet with an ease. When your violin moves up and down, try to check if your chin is holding your violin well. Also try to adjust the violin angle ( tilting the violin) when playing on the G string for a better access with the bow. Happy practising!

    Violin takes so little Left hand pressure compared to fretted instruments. This is why my old hands like the violin better than my ukulele. No frets to press the strings to!

    Getting rid of what I like to call "the death grip" is so challenging. In my limited success, I've found that allowing to feel some vibration of the string under the fingertip relaxes my left hand and gives my mind a different focus. I will add your exercises. Thanks, Joy!

    Hello Joy Lee, I have 2 questions:
    First question: How do you place the high third finger comfortably and the fourth finger can still be hovering above its place on the string or in other words without opening the hand?
    Second question: A lot people say to me that I twist my elbow too much for the g string, but I find, if I dont do this, my fourth finger do not reach its place properly without touching another string. I still do must admit, that the people are probably right, because I feel tension in my elbow, when playing on the g string, my muscles get sore and tired over a while. How can I fix this/ How can I play properly on the g string without too much tension?
    Thanks a lot :)

      Dear momo, for G string , try to tilt the violin with forward left shoulder to change the angle of the violin so that the bow can be placed horizontally. and for the left hand 3rd and 4th finger control, these videos might answer your questions. Happy violin playing! ua-cam.com/video/db_dVlGXroE/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/IaHlSgGyvks/v-deo.html

      @@JoyLeeViolin very nice suggestion with the tilting. I like it. That is also a reason why I like to have the violin placed a bit more down from the shoulder, so the neck comes more to my hand. In the other hand I like to have the violin very well nice place more on the shoulder, because thats relieves the neck. Its so and so. One has to find a got middle:) maybe...I also comment the other video there:) thank you for your answer! :) Happy new year and playing :)

    4:10 my arm is always like this but it hurts when I try to get it into the correct position. Also my palm is always facing me instead of the fingerboard because I can't seem to reach the notes without doing so. Are my hand and wrist not flexible enough to reach?

    • @JoyLeeViolin
      @JoyLeeViolin  3 роки тому +2

      Dear Jennilee, playing violin is not the easiest task, and you are not alone with working on flexible and reliable LH position. For most of time, one can train LH to be more flexible with persistent and patient work. I wish you all the best and happy music making!
