    Jed should be proud that he inspired so much heat for this set up. That’s exactly the point of a well executed heel turn. Most writers can only dream of moving people emotionally with intention in a traditional good guys beating up the bad guys superhero story.

    As someone who got into comics with Avengers: The Initiative #14 where 3-D Man took down that Super-Skrull (with some aid from Devil-Slayer), this mini-arc was a big old blast of nostalgia for me.
    Honestly, 3-D Man is hella underrated. I’d love to write Delroy one day.

    First of all, Triathlon's powers were the same and came from the same source as the original 3-D Man's powers. So he was basically a legacy character with a different name (until Marvel decided to change his name to "3-D Man"). His powers (with the exception of being able to see through the disguises of Skrulls) were less stereotypical and more generic. I don't mind his powers, but I do wish they would give him some additional powers as well as cool special weapon in order to make him even more different than the original 3-D Man. I would like him to gain the power of creating 3-D holographic images of himself and a special staff that could extend into a pole volt staff and transform in a javelin.

    Lol. At this point Ernie, you should just do a multipart series about Media Literacy and get into a chapter about "Twists".
    1. A literary TWIST is a story element where events appear to be one thing then are revealed to be another.
    2. A GOOD TWIST is one that gets many people to look back and see that signs were there of the reveal.
    3. A GREAT TWIST is one that even got people so emotionally wrapped in the outcome that they experienced strong sadness, anger or joy at either the setup or the payoff or both.
    People on the internet (some) don't just lack patience with story telling, their thinking is too linear. My first question when seeing Delroy was *"Is he an Avengers plant?"* and fair enough to many people that don't even know of the character that much, the cover story would hold up in an undercover sting because he DID kill Skrulls and could legitimately be sour about getting booted from the Avengers.
    ...but he's a hero (hence MODOK's suspicions) so what's more likely, being so angry at Avengers he is cool with being in a hate organization that kills innocent mutants (and kills humans to frame mutants), or being undercover?
    Now, its not to say people aren't weary of sloppy writing that just wanted to show a hero switching sides for barely acceptable "reasons", especially with the optics of a character from a marginalized community essentially throwing in with oppressors of another marginalized community; it is more to say exactly what Ernie said: let them cook sometimes (French for "be patient and see where they're going with this").

    • @bajansamurai
      @bajansamurai 11 днів тому

      ...and I would be remiss not to draw parallels between this sort of thing and the Shalla Bal Silver Surfer "outrage". Legitimately, people don't have the same faith in a good story being delivered due to phase 4's hits being less, and misses being more, but the anger is literally that "they've changed my precious Suefer's gender!!!" Few are stopping to ask:
      1. Is it an homage to anything, or is there a plot reason this Surfer is female at this point?
      2. Is the story going to be good?
      3. At what point in the existence of Surfer are we entering the story (i.e. was there or is there ALSO a Norrin Radd Surfer, who is either finally getting to soar the spaceways with his true love, or more tragically being hunted for his deserting his post by the very person it would hurt him the most to have to fight)?
      4. Is this a way to distinguish between universes?
      We got an actress's announcement. It's a publicist thing, often to elevate their profile. It also hints at the Earth X story. However, they're not going to just give you the whole story just so you can trust there was a reason to cast her. Let them cook then see if it was an actual bad story.
      It's OK to not get the character you expected and be disappointed, but watch where your anger is really going towards if it's hitting you that hard (or if things ARE designed to rile you up, like 3-D Man, only for a reveal to let you know it was always fine and part of a bigger plan).

    I can confirmed that the former Avenger and Agent of Atlas 3D Man is a secret agent of Wakanda, infiltrate Orchis as a double agent (just like Firestar does).
    So Black Panther has awakened Delroy (speaking in Old Wakandan Language, it's Xhosa) and he is sending him to the ancestral plane to talk about a secret plan about infiltrate Orchis before T'Challa sending the fight alongside the Avengers, fighting Terminus, Ashen Combine, Twilight Court, etc. (I don't want to tell spoilers for Blood Hunt #1 so 🤫), so yeah he infiltrate and ended up joining Orchis because he's mad about the team and later he returns to normal and deactivate the Stark Sentinels thanks to 3D Man (formerly Triathlon) and he tells Sam and T'Challa, he is alone but Cap, Panther and the Avengers show some support saying, "We're all doing what we can. We're all in this together. None of us is alone".
    And 3D Man is away, he's doing his own thing now.
    Again, the story of the 2 Part story arc of Avengers, "Hit Back" is set during the events of Fall of the House of X #1.

      That's often indicative of hidden reasons for the complaints. On one hand, people simply didn't want to jive with an exiled T'Challa in a street level story, and didn't give it time to show where it was building to. Of course, there were others that jumped into their dislike later because the presence of a trans woman made them feel T'Challa would automatically get into a relationship with her, and they didn't feel secure in revealing that was the source of their dislike.

      Was actually 2 brothers as the same hero, they sort of had a Firestorm type relationship as 3D Man. One of the brothers died while the other brother had his powers forcibly transferred to the current 3D Man. Eventually the current 3D Man who was now a merger of the 2 original 3D Man brothers and himself split into 3 bringing both brothers back to life but now powerless while he retains all the powers himself. Later the 2 brothers were attacked and Charles (the brother who originally had lived) was killed while Hal (the brother who originally died) is currently in a coma

    Anyone who thinks all black people would automatically side with mutants because they understand what it means to be oppressed is delusional you get black people who are happily oppressing and or willing to let others remain at their current level all the time but in the case of this 3D Man I kind of understood the heel turn. First off this is not the same heroic 3D man from the 70’s and 80’s but a guy who used to use steroids in order to win gold medals. Though he reformed and became a hero he has always been a guy who is all about working within organisations both private and government backed, given how he stated his views of non humans as threats after Secret Invasion and his apparent relapse with abusing drugs again in Secret Empire it didn’t seem too far fetched for him to have switched sides in a similar way to how Beast was a true hero who served as an X-Man, Avenger and Defender yet up until his most recent “death” was very much in a similar position as 3D Man.
    Now honestly the twist I didn’t see coming which is fun though it felt like retreading the double agent bit with Firestar but personally I’d have been cool with 3D Man being a villain for a while maybe due to being addicted to a drug Orchis/Modok made and have them do a redemption story for him later down the line but in the end I guess this could work too as he may have guilt for his part in what he did for Orchis while under.

    Three times as.powerful ... as a peak humam athlete. However, I think this concept would be a great upgrade for 3-D Man: the ability to, randomly, become theee times as powerful than ANYONE (an asoect of their powers/abilities) when he comes into their vicinity.
    For example, versus Black Panther and Captain America (Sam Wilson in the panel BWF featured). I'll just throw out Black Panther's senses. I can only assume that they're greater than 3-D Man's. 3-D Man would randomly assimilate Black Panther's level of senses, INCREASING THEM THREEFOLD. The same with Sam Wilson's avian telepathy; 3-D Man can increase Sam's level of avian telepathy THREEFOLD. However, he can use this ability for no more than three minutes with up to three people at a time, per day. 🤔👍🏿💯🤷🏿‍♂️

    • @bajansamurai
      @bajansamurai 11 днів тому +2

      On paper that could be true, but contextually Wanda is a character who is trapping Chthon, not rolling with his full power always accessible. Tapping the Darkhold comes with great risks and that what a story would always exploit to keep her contained. The issue with a spell like "No More AI" would apply like it did to "No More Mutants" - it would hurt both the bad and the innocent. And as they revealed, she was hopped up on the Life Energy to be that effective. The Darkhold could arguably be as amplifying, but there could also be rules to using it that doesn't let such a straightforward spell be effective.
      Aside from that, we're not simply talking holding their own in a fight. The problem is how systemic Orchis's effects are, the multiple arms of the organization, and the might of their backers. Nimrod is easy to pass off as yet another strong robot, but there's all sorts of tech mumbo jumbo, quantum whatchumacallits at play in his design that he doesn't just get overpowered by things that seem like they should, and Enigma would also be a problem that is Phoenix level, therefore, Scarlet Witch level to combat.
      So this applies to Thor, CM, Viz, etc. in the way that in a fight they can win, but to dismantle the organization and not hurt and kill innocents they have to be very deliberate and careful, and can't be everywhere at once with 7 people fronting.

    • @brandonwolfe2703
      @brandonwolfe2703 10 днів тому

      @@bajansamurai I get what you’re saying but the scarlet witch comic made it seem pretty straight forward that she had pretty much ultimate power at her disposal and she has no trouble controlling it. She stopped her transformation to a brood stopped way higher tier villains with ease I get how bad ass nimrod is but if they beat him in sins of sinister and brought back all the knowledge why can’t Tony and forge just do it again. The only thing that was shown to stop Wanda is mysterioum which Polaris or a now resurrected magneto can control. Now obviously just doing this would make for a very boring story but I feel like it’s within her wheelhouse. No more mutants she was amped up from her normal greatly but she’s definitely way more amped and in control now according to her comic.

    • @bajansamurai
      @bajansamurai 10 днів тому

      @@brandonwolfe2703 Good points, but for the very same reasons of not making it boring they will explain whatever resistances to magic Nimrod has baked in so she'd be forced to go all out. If you're following the current Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver series they just showed how much of a danger to herself (and others) accessing the Darkhold magic is too, so maybe they walked back how straightforward the power boost was supposed to be, or at least whatever boost she's experienced so far didn't need her to go to the extreme called for against Wizard.
      Mostly though, she'd be the person on Enigma's radar more than any of the others so if Nimrod really is a cake walk to her, that still leaves the issue of a Dominion outside time and space, the problem of the size of the organization, and the issue that an all-in spell against AI's also messes with Chat GTP, Stark Interfaces, and even allies such as Jocasta and Vision.

    I understand seeing mutant relations as a metaphor for prejudice. As a Jew I do. Even when it's not inferred. And adding that socio-political element makes the story more interesting, captivating, and powerful, something you can relate with, or draw connections to real life. BUT. Is that really what you think? That it's unrealistic to have an African American or minority portrayed as being a member of an antimutant organization? Only a white person can be a bigot or racist? An entire demographic are above and incapable of certain acts because of there skin. Homesexuals throughout this nations history were put down the same, by all peoples, regardless of race. African Americans as a race only exist because of what I consider one of the worst attrocities of history, the slave trade. sure there's always been slavery, but an international network run by empires, that lasted over 300 years. I know it's god awful, and u have right to be mad. I'm white tho so I'll never actually get it, nor will I pretend it's my problem. But being born into a cultural history doesn't make you a good person. Some people just suck. They're everywhere, all colors.

    Triatholon was a pretty boring character; but with the exception of Captain Marvel (Monica Rambeau) all of the black characters added were not handled great. Not to say they didn't become good characters but their introductions and involvement in the Avengers weren't handled well.

    The problem here is NOT about some black characters working for Orchis....the issue here is making a SUPERHERO like 3-D man/ Triathlon partner with Orchis which is a MASSIVE mischaracterization of the 3D man/ triathlon.
    There are very many BLACK supervillains the writer could have used so Mister "BlerdWithoutFear you are falsely and badly misconstruing things.
    Also....you lied again saying "every Black ANIME character is freakishly strong". That is NOT TRUE and a straight up lie. There are faaaaar more vast greater majority of black anime characters who are NOT "freakishly strong".
    In fact, i am struggling to think of any black anime character who is "freakishly strong".
    Please correct this!
    Having said that.....i loved the plot twist on 3D-man.
