In Jordan’s era, There was no carrying Or moving/picking up of the pivot foot like Luka does every single possession. There was no taking 3-4 steps for a layup, or picking up the ball just to take 2 steps back THEN shooting a 3. The fundamental rules of the game were strictly enforced. I don't think Ant's comment was meant to be taken literally. I think there was a bigger message he was trying to convey, it just didn't come out right. MJ was considered an anomaly in his era. Even though there were clearly other players with skill, MJ stood out amongst the rest. I think Ant's comment was meant to highlight the evolution of todays game compared to MJ's era. On a side note I think it's hilarious that past players are agitated by this comment, because they constantly call this era soft. I think it's an even trade-off. This era is more skilled but less physical, and the past era was more physical but less skilled.
The 90’s is when athleticism and skill combined to create the perfect game of bball, what you have now is all athleticism it’s about how high you can jump and dunk

I believe some of this era’s players are so insecure that they think the only way to build up their current era is to tear down those who came before them. There are current players who have respect for the past eras and their players.
Critics of contemporary basketball have adopted the term 'plumbers' to disparage current players, drawing parallels with the way individuals in the 1990s ridiculed the 1960s, implying that future generations will similarly mock today's players with analogous labels.
I would like to see these young play the old way just for the summer a few games just so they can get an idea of how easy the game is now for offensive plays.
Yall bringing up a lot of people that came after Jordan 💯💯😂he grown as hell we can’t have our own opinion nomore without grown men getting in they feelings
really by skilled you mean by dribbles and MOVES THAT ARE VIOLATIONS IN ACTUAL BASKETBALL??? IF THATS THE CASE WHY WASN'T SKIP TO MY LOU AN ALLSTAR EVERY YEAR HE PLAYED????
Skilled players from the 90's Jordan, Olajuwon, David Robinson, Barkley, Mark Price, Kevin Johnson, Duncan, Isiah Thomas, John Stockton, Dominique Wilkins, Garnett, Grant Hill, Drexler, Iverson, Rasheed Wallace, Pippen. And those are all-stars.
Of course guys like Antman, Tatum and a few others can play in any era, but at the same time they wouldn’t have the same effect back in the 90s. A lot of Allstars today will be role players and a good chunk of these players today would be fringe NBA players.
Lifelong Celtics fan, I love Tatum, watched him get drafted, supported his whole career. But Charles Barkley would steamroll him in the post. And he’d be barkin and intimidate Tatum so his jumpers he relies on would not be falling the same. The constant physicality and trash talk would definitely affect Tatum more than tatums game affecting Barkley or the outcome of the game. Oh yeah and round mound is grabbing 20 boards.
@@ehunt I’d like to think he could too just not as consistently. I’ve seen him jack up shots and go scoreless for quarters and I’d imagine it’d be worse with someone like Scottie pippen guarding him.
The ONLY thing that this era is more skilled in is shooting percentage from 17 feet and beyond but the absolute green light EVERY player now has to shoot those shots easily contributes half of those percentage points because they have no consequences for missing shots that previous eras considered very low percentage shots
The Olympics proved how our players did against rules allowed the defense to guard a lot more physically. They struggled at times. That being said I think USA did get called differently too. They called fouls many times when they were just playing with the physicality and a lot of no calls when they would get hammered. It did show that our players were not used to that physical defense although I think this years playoffs were the most physical I've seen in many years. Will this be what we can expect this year and going forward? I hope so, because I think the NBA was too focused on offense for too many years. Last year was a return to strong physical defenses. Sadly I think that what helped Minnesota beat Denver, I love Denver but them having a short bench really hurt them this past year. They were too wore down by Minnesota s physical defense. I was hoping they would make more moves in the off-season. I can't see Denver winning a championship again until they upgrade their bench or these young players develop a lot quicker. Jokic is my favorite player so I hope they figure it out. MPJ needs to finally step up into his potential. He could be an all-star or potentially all NBA if he played upto his potential. With his salary he has to or Denver will have to move him eventually.
I think Ant was misunderstood about NBA Basketball back in the 80s and 90s. He mentioned that MJ is the standout from the other players. Every single one of them. Michael had a smooth midrange jumper, excellent layups, incredible finger rolls, outstanding putbacks, amazing fadeaways, unstoppable athleticism and acrobatic plays with vicious dunks. He's the GOAT, of course he is going to stick out from the rest. Ant knows the rest of the NBA are high quality players that are the best in the world. But he's comparing MJ to the them.
They don't enforce any dribbling or traveling rules today. Sure, they shoot the three better today, but the inside game was lightyears better back then. Additionally, you could hand check, grab, knock people down, etc... It's soooo soft today. f these guys today played back then they would get called for palming traveling every play. They would get destroyed defensively and physically.
Tot disagree with the Ant Man.The Guts today are more Athletic, but less fundamental offensively and Defensively Too many to name besides Michael Jordan:Isiah Thomas, Majic Johnson, Larry Bird,Sidney Moncrief, Hakeem Olajuwon, skilled, no lead Management, 30 three pointers a game! The game was too physicall in the 80's and 90's!
Back in high school coaches would not let u dribble more than 5 times B4 yo ass either shooting or passing. Refs were blowing the whistle on a jump stop. They are allowing more in the game.
If Luka can dominate in today's game...imagine how much Larry Bird would dominate today! Bird was faster, an even more skilled shooter and passer than Luka...plus Bird's defense was underrated. Plus, Bird's trash talking would mentally devastate today's players.
The truth is today's players are more skilled than 90's players and that is a fact. BUT more skilled player doesn't necessarily mean better player. If I'm gonna make up an nba team, I would pick Giannis over Embid any day of the week even though Embid is more skilled than Giannis.
Honestly, Antman reminds me of Derrick Anderson back in the day, solid Guard, full of potential and has Superstar material.. but never won, never an all star back in the day

HE WAS 5'3!?
How he play 14 seasons in the NBA?
Glad to see Bonzie
If the young dudes are so skilled why did they crash out in the Fiba worlds, and then USA basketball had to go get the 3 oldest dudes in the league for the Olympics?
Rebounding is skill
Rodman , Barkley , Wallace and more. .
Assist is skill
Stockton , Isiah , Kidd and more. .
Blocking is skill
Mutombo , Mourning, Olajuwon
Defense is skill
Pippen, Payton Russell
I don't know what AntMan is Using
But it's a hell of a a Drug 😂😂
Ant is a fool.
Wouldn’t it be refreshing if Ant came out and said.
“My bad. That was ignorant of me to say. I apologize. We stand on the shoulders of all greats that came before us.”
@@occam5375Why would he? 60-90s fucking suck and Ant is 10x better than them already
Finally... Bonzi got it...
I loved when Portland sported the Trinidad uniforms🇹🇹😍
Excellent channel !I guess that as a kid Rasheed Wallace was already a student of the game ,he still did it during his excellent NBA career .And it's the case now.One of my favorite players versatile and great skillset
Soft touch foul defense of today is the reason why players are MORE SKILLED. 😂. This is a cotton soft era compared to 80 90s
Soft as baby sh.t.
Soft and boring 🚮
You want to foul niggas cause your not good enough to play defense is crazy😂
I don’t know why your podcast has little viewers while you guys are truer than most of the podcasts nowadays
How many years has it been since a ref called carrying? Traveling on a 5 step stepback? Rules have changed to allow 'skill'
@@queyoung6597 ur crazy.. how is the post more skilled and these bigs is staying on the perimeter shooting up bs
@@AlejandroRease You’re illiterate. When did I ever mention post play?
The 90’s is when athleticism and skill combined to create the perfect game of bball, what you have now is all athleticism it’s about how high you can jump and dunk
Hey its Bonzi Wells!
ya was not shooting step back 3s from logo please cut it out
These guys don't have more skills. The rules allow them to do things guys did on the streets back in the day
BONZI WELLS was very skillful and can do anything on the court.
I'm 39 yrs old n I'm a fan of 80s n 90s NBA when it was a man's game when every team didn't score over 100 pts a game
This face of the league thing which is being pushed is garbage, he isn't the face of the league ,he won't be for a long time ,morant coming back ,jokic ,luka, tatum, the Greek freak,Steph still playing ,durant still playing and there are others ,pump the break on that
🤣it’s like the Marines…saw a newer guy talking about the Swim Tank, they go in wearing boots and utes but in our days we went in wearing boots and utes, Alice packs, cartridge belts and rifle🤣🤣🤣and helmets
Might be the best comment here. I'm not a Marine at all but from what I gather especially hearing personal testimonies and watching several in depth documentaries, Marines was 50x more gladiatic than the era now because it's more soften
Your the reason people hate old people😂you want things to be harder cause your sorry ass had to deal with it, just like you gotta deal with dying soon cause you’ve not done shit with your life, i’d only you died deployed we wouldn’t have to listen to you cry about everything
I don't see any big man now with the moves of kareem, mchale, akeem . Now they jack 3s, jog back on d, don't crash boards ,travel . ....u really had to play as a team to win in 60s,70s,80s
I believe some of this era’s players are so insecure that they think the only way to build up their current era is to tear down those who came before them. There are current players who have respect for the past eras and their players.
Bonzi be speaking facts.........most of the time 😂
Critics of contemporary basketball have adopted the term 'plumbers' to disparage current players, drawing parallels with the way individuals in the 1990s ridiculed the 1960s, implying that future generations will similarly mock today's players with analogous labels.
it's like Antman saying Penny Hardaway wasn't skilled?
I would like to see these young play the old way just for the summer a few games just so they can get an idea of how easy the game is now for offensive plays.
Yall bringing up a lot of people that came after Jordan 💯💯😂he grown as hell we can’t have our own opinion nomore without grown men getting in they feelings
Nah yall just dumb as the fuq sometimes and you don't take well to someone telling you about it. Whatever helps you sleep at night though 😂
Bonzi speaking facts, while Sheed probably baked shaking his knees
I was becoming a fan of ANT but now I hope he don't win shit ever
Ant had Jet lag when he said that lol
And 1 basketball began in our Era we had skilled player's.
really by skilled you mean by dribbles and MOVES THAT ARE VIOLATIONS IN ACTUAL BASKETBALL??? IF THATS THE CASE WHY WASN'T SKIP TO MY LOU AN ALLSTAR EVERY YEAR HE PLAYED????
Skilled players from the 90's Jordan, Olajuwon, David Robinson, Barkley, Mark Price, Kevin Johnson, Duncan, Isiah Thomas, John Stockton, Dominique Wilkins, Garnett, Grant Hill, Drexler, Iverson, Rasheed Wallace, Pippen. And those are all-stars.
Sheed is my guy, but he contributes to this as well. Saying Mike doesn’t play defense is an example.
Of course guys like Antman, Tatum and a few others can play in any era, but at the same time they wouldn’t have the same effect back in the 90s. A lot of Allstars today will be role players and a good chunk of these players today would be fringe NBA players.
They wouldn’t last in the 90s n 00s
Lifelong Celtics fan, I love Tatum, watched him get drafted, supported his whole career. But Charles Barkley would steamroll him in the post. And he’d be barkin and intimidate Tatum so his jumpers he relies on would not be falling the same. The constant physicality and trash talk would definitely affect Tatum more than tatums game affecting Barkley or the outcome of the game. Oh yeah and round mound is grabbing 20 boards.
@@xl8751 Yeah, it was a different era and a different game.
@@xl8751 jason tatum is putting up 40 on anybody you think about putting on him lol
Love your stuff SHEED!!! I made an album called ball dont lie
Players rather step back behind 3 point line then step forward for mid range jumper 😂 i cant it hurts my brain
You mean back when they weren’t constantly traveling and carrying the ball, chucking up 3’s every other possession? That “no skill”??
Young lads should watch this
Jordan would embarrass Edwards, including even in physical and athletic prowess. What a foolish thing to say.
So wilt Chamberlain Kareem bird magic Barkley Iverson. No talent or skill
MJ cried for fouls and Pippen to help him win anything
Imagine saying Penny Hardaway wasnt skilled 🤦♂️.
I really liked Edwards too
No skill? Sheed and Bonzi both had mad skills...heck, if they were drafted today, both of then would still thrive on today's NBA
Tot disagree with the Ant Man.The Guts today are more Athletic, but less fundamental offensively and Defensively
Too many to name besides Michael Jordan:Isiah Thomas, Majic Johnson, Larry Bird,Sidney Moncrief, Hakeem Olajuwon, skilled, no lead Management, 30 three pointers a game!
Bonzi Wells would have given today's players buckets. Facts. When you know you know.
Prime Kobe, TMAC, AI and Vince would DESTROY Ant
No skills is crazy..
Shawn Kemp was doing what Edward’s doing 30 years ago
The truth is today's players are more skilled than 90's players and that is a fact. BUT more skilled player doesn't necessarily mean better player. If I'm gonna make up an nba team, I would pick Giannis over Embid any day of the week even though Embid is more skilled than Giannis.
They changed the rules to make it easier to score and its way less physical
That sectional is cold blooded
You cannot mention magic Johnson without Larry the legend goatus saurus rex...😅
To this day i still haven't seen anyone with more stamina than MJ dude was really built different
Honestly, Antman reminds me of Derrick Anderson back in the day, solid Guard, full of potential and has Superstar material.. but never won, never an all star back in the day
wild😭that bum is not close to ant
Prime Penny Hardaway would demolish antman in the post alone 😅
Anthony Edwards fail to realise mj played in a era when NBA was part basketball part WWE wrestling just to get to the basket without a injury was a skill all by itself
Crazy I agree with ant
I knew it, Magic had no skills he was a 6'9" point guard way too tall😮
Sad man, I’m 45 and basketball WAS my first love when it comes to sports.
I never seeing a disrespect to the game like now, I only watch when my Celtics is playing cause lived over 20 years in Boston, and that’s it only watch my Boston team and F the rest of the league, truly Ant man and all this woke mofo are just making the game worse and worse every single day.
The only thing these players now do different is dribble the ball better nothing else
Derrick mckie who is that 😂😂😂
And what exactly has he done in the NBA again
A shooting guard like Allan Houston would tear him apart and I'd laugh my ass off...
People got to understand (and remember) kids will say dumb things. Kids will say a lot of dumb things. Everybody said and did dumb things in their early 20s. Give kids some slack and don't take them so seriously (until they win something).
Crazy how a young kid hasn’t won, almost like Jordan before he cried for a superteam
This guy just put himself a target on his own back for no reason. Hope they don’t hurt him out of the season
They are just jumping...... apart from the step back 3, what move was developed in this era?.....who has a signature move in this era?.......Dreamshake, skyhook, smithy, fadeaway jumper,......just to mention a few......🙄
Does he know who the doctor is Julius Irving? He oughta be trying to pin his game after Julius Dr. Jay tell that man right there makes a house call he better just be quiet. He’s talking about all those other people.
Gary Payton was 6'4"...
Ants weak D is from lack of ❤️ not from lack of height.
