  • 'Gaudent in coelis' by Richard Dering. A duet sung by Gunter Wassertheurer & Allan Hannett who were choristers at St Margaret's Church Westminster, with Martin Neary on the organ.
Issued on the HMV LP 'Music of Court, Homes & Cities' in 1968.
The church was originally served by a choir of gentlemen and boys until an adult choir was formed who sang the majority of the services. The boys sang once a week in term time and are almost exclusively drawn from Westminster Under School - although boys from other schools will be considered and auditioned. The choir contained 20 boys and the lay clerks are the same as those that sing with the Adult choir. The earliest recording of the choir is a gramophone record from 1927.
From about 2015 the boys choir sang less and less and appeared to be phased out; then in 2020 the closure of the professional Adult choir was announced.
St Margaret’s Choristers is a new choir, founded in 2023, which offers an exciting and historic opportunity for talented girls to sing in an unique setting at the heart of the capital, joining in a rich and ancient choral tradition.
