  • In this video I do a complete custom Paint job on a 1956 Chevy Del Ray model car body. This video is intended to help, inspire and/or just entertain. Paints used are from Testors Extreme Lacquer spray paint line, Inca Gold and Blazing Black. Testors is now a line under Rust-oleom. Technique can be used with similar paints such as Tamiya TS line.

    Great looking 56. The color combo reminds me of the Olds in the Burt Reynolds movie. W.W. and The Dixie Dance Kings.

      @@sodakmodelcars Pretty obscure movie as well. Lol. I wish they'd do that as a kit. I remember seeing one of the cars used in the movie, at the old Autoramas they used to have at the local amusement park ballroom decades ago. In was probably around 1980/81. Shows my age. In was in highschool.

    Nice job on the 56, great colors, I do pretty good with rattle cans, after 45 yr hiatus I’m back to building, I’m trying air brushing out too, not so much luck with enamals, but ok with lacquers

    • @sodakmodelcars
      @sodakmodelcars  3 місяці тому

      Thanks! Air brushing can really open up the doors for options and finish quality. I rarely ever use enamels, they can be good for single step single color but I prefer lacquers and urethane or even acrylics as I like to custom Paint and use clear coats.

    This was awesome! Thanks for showing us the rattle cans. Why I am thinking Gene Whitfield and Darryl Starbird? (yeah, Im that old) Spectacular design and paint. The Testers gloss is amazing. Your spray technique is not what I was doing. Maybe why I didnt do well with Testors. Will give it another try.👍👍

    Great tutorial Adam! You've given me ideas for my 56 Del Rio kit👍 I guess I need to work more on my wet sanding. I don't go as far as you. Do you wet sand by hand or use a dremel style tool?

    • @sodakmodelcars
      @sodakmodelcars  3 місяці тому +1

      Thank you sir! I do all sanding wet or dry by hand. Wet sanding I just use a bowl of water to dip, clean, wet the sand paper. I do it over a large towel and wipe the body occasionally to watch progress. Hope it helps!

    • @1968fordman
      @1968fordman 3 місяці тому

      Thank you! I do pretty much the same thing, just don't wet sand until paint goes flat.

    • @sodakmodelcars
      @sodakmodelcars  3 місяці тому

      @1968fordman Common mistake in wet sanding is not going long enough (as most are trying to avoid burn through. Either not getting all the defects out or jumping grits to fast and not being thorough with the previous. In this case only one grit is used, so just getting flat while avoiding burn through areas.

    • @1968fordman
      @1968fordman 3 місяці тому

    One other idea for masking is to just buy the 1/2" vinyl tape - get a piece of glass and a straight edge and a sharp razor blade and cut your own widths. Also - Bare Metal Foil is a great masking method. A little tricky to remove after paint. Thanks for posting your great videos. Love the Watson How To. USA-1

      Lots of tricks for custom painting and masking. I use paired scalpel for ultra fine tape. Too bad BMF isn't what it use to be, was a great tool for chrome and masking but the new sheets I've gotten are a chore to work with.
