I would have to say the problem started at the shift fork not moving the gear over enough to properly engage, that's why the dog ears on the gear got beat up and eventually the force from that is what wore your drum. I've got a 95 with a little over 17k and I don't know what kind of life it had before me, I got it with 16,970 on it and it sat till I was ready to make sure the rest of it was good as the motor ran quite well .... Must have had a hard 16k life cause at 17.5k I'll be digging in to the rod bearings as I believe cylinder 3 either burned or spun on the big end and I don't have a overly heavy throttle hand. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for this even though 2nd works fine and I've heard/read that these bike's are prone to 2nd gear issues.

Hi! Thanks for vids that educated me. Im having the same model named ZZR 600 and 2nd gear jumping. I have all fairings and painted parts off now and going to fix them abit and paint over. After watching your restoration videos Im afraid that I have to open gearbox too. Is there a way to take off that gearboxes lower part off without removing ehole engine?? I also downloaded Haynes Manual from internet - looks really good (y) Wish you luck on your projects and waiting to see more of how it came after you finished your ZX.6E restorations! ;)

I hate the fact the only chip is second gear on mine, so I have to buy an entirely new drum
