Boyd was a fantastic actor. His portrayal of Messala in “Ben Hur” was captivating as Heston’s friend and then enemy. His wise talking gunman steals every scene he is in. His early death robbed us of more memorable performances.

Here's something you might find interesting...as a military veteran & with bi-polar disorder, I found this movie very relaxing...the even pace of the actors voices talking, the basically predictable fist fights, the eye stares at each other, and the subtle grins from the characters allowed me to feel comfortable. Thank you for this film I have NEVER seen or head of before. A wonderful MYSTERY movie with REALISTIC SETS , beautiful wide screen landscapes, & great music!! What a twisting plot!

I know he might have “nailed” it. However, he’s still not convincing in that role to me. It’s as when the tough stuff is over, the look he gives is saying, “I did a good job of what the script said I should do, didn’t I?”

Steven Boyd was most remembered as the arch villain in “Ben Hur”(1953-54’ version) opposite of Charles Heston. I thought he was great in that, and here his character is more laidback, but still “black hat mysterious” and dangerous. His voice in this movie, at first, though slight southerner, it was still recognizable to me. I don’t recalled this movie, so Thanks for sharing it!

Louis L'Amour sure could spin a yarn. The camera work and propping is outstanding, the horses were stellar--and that dog (!) at the opening--everything a modern Western should be, including Spaghetti influence. (Was that rainbow just in frame of the last shootout scenes an accident?) My eyes still smart from all that dust and smoke. Well, and the poignancy of it all ... A memorable classic!

What a fabulous western. The professional critics seem to slate it for the improbability of the plot but who cares? The Colt revolver had only six shots but who cares? Who doesn't - just for a moment - fancy himself as Ruble Noon, the man who knows how to handle himself? I watched a second time to better understand the plot and the characters but that was no hardship. The musical soundtrack is excellent throughout, especially the tension created around 48:15mins when Noon wonders where the next shot will come from.
It's so saddening to realise that most of the principal actors have now passed away and with them an era.
    I've ordered the book.

I love the almost comedic incoherence of this. We've lost so much with our demand to have reality creep into our entertainment. Of course 6 shots is the maximum load in a Colt single action, but the movie guns always had 12 when I was young. I was fascinated to learn that Lewis and Clark carried Sharps rifles...but I don't really care. I am busy envying the cabin and its 20 acres. I am also in awe of the double action single action revolver that Fan Davidge uses to despatch the evil Peggy Cullane. Of course its full of silliness...I enjoyed it.

When he walks into the Bunkhouse and he asks where his bunk is, I just see the faces of the extras in Spaghetti Westerns lol!!!

It's really nice to watch the westerns made especially in the last 15 to now because they're more accurate with costumes and grooming. Cowboys especially didn't have clean cut hairstyles their hair was mostly long and scraggly. The average cattle drive took anywhere from 90 days to six months the last thing these guys cared about was having Clark Kent hair cuts,

Also enjoyed this western. Apparently it was filmed in Spain, and some of the faces are familiar from other spaghetti westerns.

By far the best thing in this film is Stephen Boyd's portrayal of the 'good badguy' Rimes. Shame to see an actor as good as Richard Crenna in a throwaway movie like this. It had a lot of potential and it was squandered with ridiculous writing and poor direction. To see Richard Crenna in an actual good western, watch "Catlow" in which he starred with Yul Brynner.

I almost forgot, write some good science fiction..there is not any decent science fiction anywhere..even Stephen King is not writing good stuff lately..I have retired and I am moving to the filipines..I am going to outline some science fiction stories and get the filipino college students to put my ideas into the correct words and format. As you can tell I am not a good writer but I have some great ideas 😊
