- Legendary environmental warriors Vandana Shiva and David Suzuki, come together in this rare conversation across continents. Both are past winners of the ‘Right Livelihood Prize’ often referred to as the ‘alternative Nobel’, and have had enormous local and global impact through their work.
Now, in the middle of a global pandemic, they invite us to consider the opportunity we have to change our ways of being as a species, and how we must truly be “all in this together”.

When covid first hit, my 6 year old step daughter told me the world is sick all together, and that because we had not taken care of our planet, our people are getting sick too. If we all just remember, the way children inherently know, that we are just a part of our world and that we are connected to each other and our planet maybe more people can have conversations like this. Yes, children are not yet so conditioned as we older people are. After I read a book called "The Great Waves of Change - Navigating the Difficult Times Ahead" (by Marshall Vian Summers) I kind of opened my eyes for the reality of this world. It's an amazing book because it doesn't only paint pictures of the future but also offers so valuable advice of how to prepare yourself and your family to be able to navigate basing on our deeper intelligence, Knowledge, that lives within each of us. Knowledge, that children haven't yet forgotten.

May you have ease of well being

A discussion of the manipulation of truth and reality through social media and through our gadgets like smart phones that become capable of providing this data to sources that can then create a profile for other sources to use against us to sow doubt and confusion and then feed us very targeted to specific populations information and manufactured narratives that sow discord, fear, and lies that open our minds allowing thinking and behavior to being taken over and controlled by nefarious agents to the poisonous insertion of false narratives resulting in distrust of anything and everything that does not fit with the manufactured artificial and false beliefs that now domiinate with the ever intensifying hold to control have taken over individual critical thinking.
So my question is about the hold false and misleading information are having on certain groups of people so that good information is simply dismissed and penetrating this phenomena of refusing to even consider other information contrary to what someone believes is a huge issue. Ideas for how to work with this?

love that diversity makes abundance - I hope the division that the virus has created or rather the fear that has been generated because of it- created this . will make people realise the value of freedom diversity and unity .
Unfortunately, 10 months later, it seems the fear propaganda is working and society (at least in the West) has never been so divided on so much. And as it turns out, while they are not wrong about what we are doing to food/ animals, the virus escaped from a lab - not from nature (on purpose or accident, we will likely never know that truth, nor does it really matter, what's done is done). And not that it not truly coming from nature, detracts from what David is saying, at all. Indeed, China will likely never admit this, but all signs point to humans being humans, yet again.

I wish I had been listening to/known about Vandana Shiva for longer than just the last year. What she says and how she says it make it „easy“ to understand for non-scientists like myself. I also really appreciate her positivity.
This was a very meaningful, smart and sympathetic virtual panel discussion. Maybe the first I have seen in many weeks, which really made sense, at least to me, and which brought knowledge and insight, a global overview of the interconnectedness of live and humankind, and our responsibility, but also our shortsightedness. Guided by wisdom and real engagement, not by ego-centrism, like in a lot of other zooms etc.

I think I've listened to and a read a hundred different analysts on these subjects over the last 4 or 5 years since I've become deeply interested in environmental / economic issues and Vandana is easily one of my top 3 favorites. Thank god there are such knowledgable, intelligent and passionate people out there.
Having said that, I find this presentation extremely depressing as it mostly highlights how completely insane the modern human species is as a whole - a view I've had for decades. Honestly, I do not have much hope for reversing all of these negative trends without massive and widespread enviro and economic collapse that likely involve billions of people starving to death or mass die-offs from one thing or another - maybe 100 more covid-19s.
I am a huge fan of Dr Shiva. Thank you, Dr Shiva. We need more people like you. Much love to you!

The majority have fallen for the "BIG LIE " no not that one , Trump is not the issue; directly anyway.
I'm speaking of RELIGION ; the personal God of Abraham the Muslim God the Christian God the Jewish God the catholic God the fictional God created initially to keep slaves from running away. The slave owners took a conglomeration of tales from pre- Christianity eras and combined them into a book touted as being the written word of the true God, in this book were included specific laws pertaining to slavery, if the slave was obedient and never attempted to run away the slave would be free in heavenly joy for eternity in the afterlife; the slave that was disobedient or ran away would suffer eternal hellfire for eternity. This worked so well an idea sprang forth. And voilla! Capitalist government controlled "slave society " was born . The church had revelatory powers of interpreting gods words to fit the changing society and when that wasn't enough then they would dissappear whole books of the lords words. As recently as 100 years ago they removed 20+ books of the Bible that conflicted with their goal for society and their unquestioned control over the slaves, I mean citizenry. Get rid of the false God of money (not abraham) it always was about money. ONCE THAT is done, the earth can heal the people can start to become what they are once more and empathy will replace egoism. Animals will no longer be looked at with mouth watering and stomach rumbling. Unconscionable to think of eating dead flesh instead of vegetable as humans were meant to. Look at our teeth. No ripping teeth found in carnivorous species. Did you ever notice that the species we do eat all subsist in vegetable for the nutrition we get a small part of by eating their flesh? Hmmmmm

Trying to understand the motivation behind the thanking essential workers. This means other peoples jobs are non essential. This would make vast segments of the population non essential. I only mention it due to the length of time it was used in the presentation. Affixing value to the worth of a person's job is another form of division. When they run out of enemies to create they will make you the enemy. Here we go again 2030. When we come to realize that this has been carefully planned we are one step closer to the solution. When the illusion of freedom is no longer profitable freedom itself becomes non essential. Beware the terms sustainable development, the new green deal, build back better, the great reset, the fourth Industrial Revolution. Both speakers make valid points, but words mean nothing if the application is curtailed by the few.
It just that, people have no answers to what's happening to the earth as well as the human being.

Anyways I love listening to Shivas' discussions, especially when she gets passionately angry at the guilty corporations, systems and people who are deliberately harming and suppressing people and the whole planet. With the Science and Technology we have now we can do far better than this.
Throughout this Covid 19 craziness, I am thankful to live near by three churches that give out vegetarian friendly food. 🥰Apparently, people are ungrateful bunch not picking up FREE salad kits, large packs of cole slaw, mixed vegetables packs, cheese bricks, big packs of apples, pears and even green grapes... 😳😱Just boxes and boxes of free fruits and vegetables right there waiting to be eaten. 😋Around where I live there is no excuse to go hungry. And you don't have to attend church or be a member. These are churches that practice the true words and life of Jesus Christ. There are even schools that give out a week worth of free lunches to families. From March 2019 to Oct 2019 I didn't need to buy any food at all. The churches gave me all that I needed for every two weeks. They even gave us milk, juices, and dessert in form of cookies. We were really blessed for such places being close. During shut downs, the air cleared up and birds, butterflies and many other wildlife came back. There are even a family of Great White Egrets living near by. Just today I saw a pair fly over my yard. Massive white birds. 🥰😍Nature most definitely took advantage of human lock down. We should do these lock downs more often to balance the Earth! Have the trillionaires and billionaires who are obsess with power and control to have power and control over something that actually benefits everyone and sponsor these four months of lock downs to heal the planet.

I totally agree with Vandana Shiva, that our vocabulary is one of the most important thing. I have been trying to fight the use of word Indian that represents indigenous. I think the first step should be to call Indigenous people by the name of their land. E.g Native Indians in US should be termed as native Americans. Those who owned Canadian lands should be Native Canadians. I feel the use of the term Indians by the colonisers to ensure that those who owned lands in that country should be snatched away, so as to not bear any resemblance, and any rights that accrue thereof. I request both the guests to help me in this endeavor.

What an amazing presentation, and what truths and enlightment are being shared, as one who constantly ask, what kind of World is being created, that is increasing division among people, among nations and this endless pursuit of wealth and consumption.

Throughout the history of humankind resources have been concentrated in the hands of few. When resources got depleted, civilizations collapsed. Well, it wasn't that bad because they were local. Now, technology allowed for globalization and thus much faster depletion of the planetary resources. The principle of the system hasn't changed except for the scale; it's global now. We live in the times of witnessing a global civilization collapse; it's starting to crack.
Why not look into the foundation of the system. Trade and the money are at the root of our unstoppable train. If people didn't have to trade they wouldn't be brainwashed to buy things they don't need and the industries wouldn't be built products by planned obsolescence. Trade and money were all good throughout thousands of years; well, not that good; they exacerbated societal stratification, slavery, and other unfair practices humans came up with. But in the end, money and trade contributed a lot to ease the process of exchange and overall 'prosperity'. That is not new at all. Jacque Fresco, the founder of The Venus Project advocated a Resource-based economy since the 1960s until (watch him at Larry King's show) his last days. He hasn't only talked about it but also created designs to make a leap to a saner society, the society that is applying the scientific thinking to solving problems instead of people who want to make a buck: politicians, lawyers, bankers, etc.
It's too late, too little. We're far beyond our temperature threshold; global warming has been locked up and the ocean thermal inertia is our only savior now. We should stop playing gods falsely assuming we can control the global temperatures with the increase of renewables or any other 'greenwash'. Come grips with the fact that we have to drastically reduce the quality of our lifestyle if we want to survive as a species. If we don't, anyway nature will do that for us.

You try saying that to people in the UK where I am from they want to be an empire again and the Xenophobia in the UK is off the scale Indian doctors being called the N word. By patients? Mankind is done.
