Actually, having a watchtower INSIDE a base is absolutely horrendous. The shooting will actively draw zombies to the base, which is the opposite of what you would want when roleplaying. Watchtowers belong on the perimeter (-fence), which should be far enough outside the living quarters that the ones resting would only barely hear the shooting.
I only ever really built them for roleplay/aesthetics. But before the siege update the towers at least reduced the threat level so sieges never got big enough to ever really be a real danger. But now Threat level no longer really matters
I think it was a previous video of yours that got me to try without watchtowers. I've never used 'em since! Except the firehall one. It seems to function well if you block off the front and back entrances, since it has a great view into the side lot area and the gate over there. I haven't done any hardcore testing, mind you!
Had to stay on Bridge fort base in Cascade hills for a while. Dude said 100% truth, trust me. Base looks like a bridge with two doors on sides, and second floor up with two towers. That base could be one of the most defended locations in the game, but there's TWO goddamn watchtowers in it, that can't be destroyed. It means that up to 4 of your team doing like nothing. Zombies comes in like in their own house, being welcome to eat everyone in infirmary. Having 4 survivors now mean that I have to fight a horde on my own. There's hovewer a bright side in it: if there's no wounded survivors on the ground, everyone else just stay up on ladders, and you can go waste zeds with car or stay up and feel yourself like at shooting gallery. But if there's someone down -- they're doomed.
The base has laddered towers, so the ones on the towers won't be in danger. Since the AI is still bad, if anyone is down there, only them will be fighting zombies!
@@StateofDecayScience Now I remembered about Sheriff's leader building, large spot hospital. Bridge fort has one large spot on roof, but no small spots. So this base might be great choice for Sheriff, because there will be no wounded survivors in dangerous area
I mean I've had exceptional results out of my RT watchtower but that's also with a full RT squad on the fenced warehouse (not many LOS blockers), I don't think they're bad per se but heavily dependent on many factors.
The reason for why they're terrible is that watchtower used to have ladder instead of ramp. They nerfed it by giving ramp which helps NPC from falling stupidly, but also allows zombie to be threatening You can find a lot of very normal watchtowers around red talon areas in Trumbul.
i always build a watchtower because it makes the game more real and it really makes sieges much easier. also i have direct fire support when i m returning home and zombies follows me. And if i have 0 beds i build a small slot with 3 beds because if it was real my survivors would use them with schedule, idk why they need 1 each in the game...
Yea watch towers are for watching not sniping, thats the issue here, also you must play on a lower difficulty cuz these towers are useless on nightmare or higher lmfao, and its just a waste of a slot that could be used for something far better, not every survivor base has to have military style "watch" towers in them
Sniper Tower is great for newbies starting on Lethal Zone. It can totally bail them out on tough situations like Blood Feral packs or Double Juggernaut spawns with hordes. But as you grow, you'll find it irrelevant as you get access to high tier weapons and items. So in my opinion... Is Sniper Tower good? YES!! Is it worth to build? Not so much. More on 50/50. Is it okay to ignore? Yes.
Genuinely i dont have hope for the third game, just one reason is one of the devs outright said "red talon shouldnt be as strong as they are, i regret making them the way they are now" which means theyre probably guna nerf red talon into the ground or remove them outright, when theyre not op what so ever, just play on lethal and the flaws of red talon rise to the surface quite rapidly, cuz they cant have unbreakable, plague immunity etc, i dont have hope for the third game due to this
I have always hated watch towers. Especially the built in towers, because you can’t clear them. You’re stuck with them. I find they pick fights with hoards and draw them into the base, that would have normally just stood there. In my last game, I was in the bridge fort, and the watch towers constantly drew hoards into the base. Now, I’m in the truck stop in providence ridge, and I’m constantly having to clean up hoards that the watch tower pulls in. It used to be that watch towers would reduce noise and sieges, but with the new siege mechanics, watch towers are a liability in my opinion.
Do you think they will add something new to the game? I'm talking about something big like a new map, new storyline content, idk, something that make me want to go back to the game?
Brother, why don’t you post a video of your playthrough in the death zone? It's very interesting to see how you build a strategy for collecting resources, completing tasks and building a base.
I am not good at giving long form voice overs. Narrating this itself took me 5 hours because English doesn't roll off my tongue. This is while I am reading the script. Imagine me talking unprepared!
You play so well that just recordings of your play from start to finish will be interesting for many to watch. Cut your walkthrough into hour-long videos. You can simply leave the game sounds or add some music. It does not take a lot of time. Try starting a community from scratch and recording a couple of episodes.@@StateofDecayScience
Can you make a video about how to make your community happiness in 100% ? I'm playing in lethal zone, and no matter what i try, the moral is always mid
Build lounge and activate the highest morale activities in it, build 2x officer quarters and install white noise machine in them, destroy a plague heart, kill a juggernaut, feral and hostile enclave, have power outpost. Besides, your survivors themselves will have morale buff from your workshop, infirmary, garden (depends on their leader type)
The watchtowers are completly useless, no, they are damaging in addition (as shown here in the vid too)... I only use bases without a checkpoint, watchtower and so on.
So, for sniper tower it's "They operate as you think they should, which is better than the watchtowers. And they're good IF you like that whole being able to call in sniper support from ANYWHERE on the map thing, which I completely discount in this video. Also, they're a detriment if you suck at the game and let zombies overrun your base while you only have enough community members to man a single tower, and no one on the ground with full auto and .50 cal weapons." I don't know, dude. Sounds like sniper tower is the way to go. And yeah, if you let a juggy or feral trap someone ANYWHERE on your base, you're gonna have a bad time. Don't let that happen. Easy peasy. Keep track of the juggys. All of your videos, your MC, who is supposed to be the MAIN defender in those situations, is just sitting there like a doof. So yeah, you're gonna have a bad time. Your MC should be on the ground kiting the juggys while your towers off it from a distance. Don't erase a main game mechanic, and pretend it's a scientific experiment. The game is centered around whichever character you are controlling, that's how it works. If you have your MC sitting around doing nothing so you can film, then the game isn't going to work right. Everyone knows the AI doesn't do certain things that help in mass attack situations. AI doesn't dodge and weave right. AI doesn't pop smoke. AI doesn't set mines and kite swarms. AI doesn't throw grenades or fire. AI doesn't switch to an appropriate weapon for the situation. The MC does. So, yeah, you hamstring your entire defense when you sit there and do nothing helpful. That's the WHOLE point of the game. You, as the player, are helping the community survive. When you do nothing, dumb shit happens. THAT'S THE POINT OF THE GAME. It's why no other community does as well as your community. You, the player! This isn't science. Science doesn't work when you leave out most of the experiment.
The absolute chad npc survivor just climbing down the watchtower to kick the juggernaut in his belly was peak SOD2 comedy

They need to buff them. There’s no reason something that actually is essentially in a situation like this is useless 😂

Would watch towers make more sense if you completely car block all but one entry point? That way extra vision at least does more than nothing.
if your watchtower has clear line of sights and it is not close to the door, it will be ok.
