He'd probably have a lot more power on his serve if he let his serve motion pull him into the court as opposed to where he lands his left foot. His forehand swing's exaggerated follow-through is also a bit unusual.
@@ayokay123 it's the ball toss that pulls one into the court. look at any good server (kyrgios, roddick, etc.) and where the ball goes once it's out of their hands. it sure as hell doesn't go vertically up at 12 o'clock (like our guys is serving). you have to go after the ball if you want to have a proper and aggressive/hard first serve. his toss is also way too high to generate any kind of whip/momentum.

Although southern areas will typically have higher depth of players at these levels. So a larger pool of players at 5.0, 4.5, 4.0, etc.

Hardly anyone commented on her play. She was very good. There is a female player that Nick from intuitive tennis trains who just rolled onto the WTA, forgot her name but she and this female player would make a great match, they are very similar in ability. The comments regarding Mark were amusing but I kind of like the screaming, it’s entertaining and he’s screaming at himself or reacting to a key point he had won. He’s probably a perfectionist.
Yes, Ema. Ema was highly ranked in College, played with Danielle Collins, so she was pretty good. Seems she's won already at least a tournament in her comeback. Having said that, yes, I would like to see a match between them. Nadia? Moves pretty well, can handle flat shots, which is Ema's type of stroke, and seems she can redirect pace.

Def not a 5.0 here hell he wouldn't even make my 4.5 team period granted we are a stacked team going to nationals but still. Different parts of the country have different levels. At nationals there are always teams hell even at sectionals that are just not very good. Same thing with the guys at TW that have their ratings, mark the lefty a 5.0?? Really he is terrible. But hey at least Mark is putting himself out there. I am guessing this was a UTR tournament as all the other courts were filled with some pretty good players and with URT you can play a man or women they don't distinguish the difference.

That went pretty much the way I expected for players at that level. Good, solid play from both. Nadia needs no instruction from me, still, it would be nice if she began her stroke preparation sooner. Getting her racket back sooner consistently might open the door to more power on her shots.

5:00 - cheering and jeering her unforced error is not cool. You did it quite a lot. Fist pumping when she made errors. Not good sportsmanship. I never see guys acting like this in all the USTA tournies and club matches I play. Just sayin'.
Relax Mark, it's just a recreational tennis match. And, remaining calm and relaxed will help you play better too. Deep breaths, looser grips, nice smooth swings and limit the celebrations to the classy Federer fist pump but only used sparingly. Good playing by both of you and quite a competitive set.
It was a really good entertaining set. A lot of hate on here a lot of people do not realise playing competitively, with the added pressure of this being recorded to put online, is substantially harder than you think! This leads to the mental side of tightening up and indecision which you would not normally do. The grunting was not an issue, annoying for some clearly but the frustration shown by losing points would feed into her game and lower Marks, clearly the mental game separated the two players.
Martin, I don't know where you are from, but if where you are from you play 4.0 I'd be willing to bet Mark might not let you get 2 games. He didn't play as well as he could have and some of that was due to Nadia playing very consistent. But either way everyone saying he's a 4.0 is likely a 4.0 that thinks they could beat him. The girl is a D1 player without a lot of holes, and there's a fair amount of pressure on him. But come on guys 4.0. I'm not a fan of the emotional outbursts, but I play 4.0-4.5 and Mark would likely beat me 6-1, 6-1...as would Nadia.

There are so many levels inside D1, for instance this young woman you are playing is very good but has an 8.6 UTR whereas the no.1 from Stanford is an 11 UTR and wouldn’t drop anymore than a game against her. Shes a very good mid-level D1 player. Plus a 5.0 male can be anywhere from a 9.5 to 11.5 UTR… and Mark is an 8.2 UTR just for reference
I would rate him as a 4.0, not a 5.0. He put his serve into her hitting zone almost everytime. He was not hitting his spots for easy points. Looked like a recreational player to me.
Why do some of these videos way exaggerate their skill? I was a weekend warrior 4.0 maybe 4.5 and played 15 years plus and could easily beat this guy in every department. Played some true 5.0 guys once and they just blew me off the court. Everything looks so sloppy and literally no power. I'm under 5'8 btw.

The answer to the question is yes. In my opinion Mark played a really bad set tactically. The strategy to play with depth, play defense or try to overpower her are not smart. The biggest difference between men’s and women’s tennis is movement. Mark should have played more angles instead of trying to hit through her. Another option would have been to play lots of topspin in order to push her back and then play some short balls.

The biggest difference between men’s and women’s tennis is movement. Mark should have played more angles instead of trying to hit through her.
Another option would have been to play lots of topspin in order to push her back and then play some short balls.

As for the rating… I have been playing tennis since Ronald Wilson Reagan’s first term: 1983. I have played 4.0 and/or 3.5 that entire time. Again, I am pretty confident that qualifies me. So I will reiterate: Where I live that dude is a 3.5.

If you have a video of yourself playing when you were 4.0, post it and see you'll look considerably worse than this guy. You won't get humbled until you watch a video of your gameplay
