Shanghaeid brings back nostalgia, especially where Spongebob and Patrick run through the perfume department. That scene makes me smile, even when thinking about it.
It looks a bit like they're finding their groove with the newer animation. The expressions are starting to fit more with the dialogue and such, rather than being random.
You know, I get the feeling that Patrick's Ending was originally meant to be canon, but they made the alternate endings due to not being too proud of it. If you follow the Flying Dutchman's finger patterns, it would logically land on Patrick. Not only that, but at the start of Patrick's ending, their faces are the same as the eenie meenie segment, and in no other ending. What's also worth noting is that they probably intentionally put the most effort into SpongeBob's ending, since in the audio commentary on the Season 2 DVD, C.H. Greenblatt says, "We had a feeling SpongeBob might win, since it _is_ his show, but Squidward's ending was actually my favorite."
@@cryamistellimek9184 I think in my country at least they aired only Patrick’s ending. I don’t recall watching Squidward’s or SpongeBob’s until I watched this video. I think I could be wrong though, I stopped watching Nickelodeon in late 2013, so they could have aired it after that.
I know about their faces being the same in Patrick's Ending, I saw it in a YTP, the footage was unedited when Patrick gets chosen. I believe the YTP's name was ",Spingebill, Potrick and Skodewarde go on an adward adventure" and today I actually checked out the Patrick ending, it's nightmare fuel and disturbing because Patrick became grotesque when the thinks too hard. I didn't see all of it but it's funny and disturbing at the same time. And the day when I edited this comment today, I watched Squidward's end for the first time on UA-cam, but I didn't see it all but stopped at the part where Spongebob introduced himself. Oh yeah don't forget I watched some more clips of Patrick's ending until after Patrick said if they're going to be here forever, they might as well have fresh breath. SpongeBob and Squidward were just idiots since they just eat the gum along with Patrick when I noticed they did that in the transcript. They could've considered giving the gum to the Dutchman instead of accepting getting eaten. The gum doesn't look like it could give fresh breath it looks pink and it's just bubble gum flavor instead of mint flavor, could they be tasting it differently? How did the Dutchman know what Patrick wished for if Patrick didn't tell his wish? Also there's some irony in some of the endings, in SpongeBob's ending when they were fruits and you can see their heads on fruits but if their heads could count as meat, why didn't the Dutchman get real fruit instead if he's 100% vegetarian? Why would he be eating fruits if fruits are not vegetables? Vegetables prevent scurvy too. The Dutchman would've gotten scurvy if he ate them in the other endings, octopuses and starfish don't contain vitamin c. Sponges would probably kill him because they're not edible and there could possibly be a little taste of soap in them. For Squidward's ending the Dutchman was pretty dumb on what Squidward was wishing for. Squidward should've said his wish differently and SpongeBob and Patrick didn't run away from getting eaten, they just didn't care. The Dutchman should've been smarter enough to know what Squidward meant by his wish. But why be dumb in this ending? Why? (I'm asking way too much questions, sorry.)
That's because it has the ren and stimpy animators along with the old writers. It's a brilliant mix! That's why new episodes are way better than 6-8 episodes.
Trayton Vanderecken “It says here that when he died, they used his body as a window display. But now he haunts the seven seas because he was never put to rest!” Kinda morbid and weird for a SpongeBob episode if you ask me lol

I remember watching Shanghaied when it originally aired with the alternate endings. Just like when I saw the "deleted scenes" of Procrastination and Just One Bite back when they weren't originally deleted.
@@LycanMOON Yup. The scene has Squidward going back to the Krusty Krab to eat a Krabby Patty, only to be stopped by a bucket of gas, which he originally thought was water. Then a match was randomly lit that caused an explosion. They most likely took that scene out due to 9/11 happening a few weeks prior to the episode's airing.
Shanghaied is better no question. Also one thing that pisses me off from the other episode is that Mr. Krabs says nothing at Plankton’s funeral, we just get a lame to sad to say anything joke from spongebob.
@@user-hf9hf6hw8j to each their own. I felt last season wasted some creative juices but it's been considerably improved. I just can't sit through Season 6-8 because of the stiff animation.
I'm proud to say I actively participated in the initial broadcast of the Shanghaied episode. It was a great episode, but watching it with all the bells and whistles gave me the same sensation I would have nowadays watching a vTuber on Twitch making a debut. As a kid, being part of something big like this was quite unforgettable.
lmao I'm 29 and I saw this episode live in 2001. That was 21 years ago as of this writing. I find it funny, though. That simile was so exaggerated yet so accurate. It wasn't until about the 2010's before I rewatched the alternate scenes, and if I hadn't watched the live premiere all that time ago, literally recording the episode on VHS, I would have thought I dreamt it all.
So, hold on. Plankton is shown to be capable of possessing objects, so what was stopping him from possessing the safe then making the hatch unlatch and open so that he could *then* take out the formula?
Spongebob was actually sad. The only person in the town who sees Plankton as a friend. The rest hate Plankton and came to laugh at him. It’s horrible but I believe it.
Squidward’s wish was that he’d never MET THEM. The Dutchman took the wish quite literally, and made it so they didn’t KNOW each other up to that point. So it’s not a matter of whether it makes sense or not, it was a matter of how he worded it. If he had said, “I wish I didn’t have to deal with these two anymore“, he could’ve gone back.
What about wishing that he never met them and he also wishes the Dutchman not to take it literally or him or all of them never meeting the Flying Dutchman and still not literally?
Why does plankton try getting the formula when he can look at it and memorize it judging by how he is able to build giant robots, he must be smart enough.
Fun fact: They actually had filmed Patchy the Pirate segments for Patrick and Squidward winning the "You Wish" vote. They're incredibly hard to find but they do exist, confirming that they actually used the results from the vote instead of assuming Spongebob would win.
There's way too many out of character parts in the Shanghaied endings. In Spongebob's ending, Squidward is telling Spongebob they are gonna get eaten, but Squidward was in the fly of despair, and HOW does Spongebob know about vegetarians, plus the Dutchman turns them into fruits MAKING HIM A FRUITARIAN. In Patrick's ending, nothing's wrong until you see the part in his brain where multiple times it's really different from other scenes in his brain. Patrick didn't even wish for anything the Flying Dutchman just thought he wished for something. Patrick said: "Okay, I got it" doesn't really mean he WISHED for something, it means he got it. Patrick shouldn't give the gum to his friends, instead the Flying Dutchman who's gonna eat them. Also, unlike Spongebob's ending, they never run away from the Flying Dutchman, they accept their fate and get eaten and in Squidward's ending they do it again. Squidward's ending, however needs to be a better wish, because I really didn't like his wish because it's not helpful to him, the Dutchman is taking things literally and Squidward needs to put the definition into his wish, SpongeBob, for some reason has to introduce himself to Squidward because Squidward forgot to put a definition to his wish and STILL THEY ACCEPT THEIR FATE. Why accept your fate if you're gonna try to get out of the ship? I think Shanghaied isn't canon because there is no way they turned back to normal in the next episode. I know about this "negative continutiy" thing but I don't even think Shanghaied is canon. (I actually act like those people who review bad Spongebob episodes)
I forgot to mention the fact SpongeBob didn't care about the events that happened in Squidward's ending. He kept on introducing to Squidward and didn't care about getting eaten, even when the Flying Dutchman said that it was time for dinner, meaning that he will eat them. Why did he choose into introduce to Squidward than escape?
I’d have to go with Shanghaied. While The Ghost of Plankton is a great episode from a great season (that is also my favorite season), Shanghaied is the funniest episode of the show in my opinion.
With no exaggeration, the "you're good" joke is by far the funniest joke in all of Spongebob to me. I honestly don't even know why, but everytime I watch it, I laugh so hard lol
Here in Latinoamerica you can only see the Patrick Ending, and maybey sometimes the Squidward ending, but i never see in my life the sponge bob ending until i saw it on youtube one time
I've only ever seen the SpongeBob ending! (I didn't even KNOW there was separate endings...) This was in Mexico, I'm curious, if this means different countries got different endings for redistribution?
Actually I saw the Patrick ending here in the USA.strange isnt it (Here we got the spongebob ending, but I only saw the ending like twice...I barely watch this episode tho ^^u)
1:43 The way Karen said "I'm plugging the plug" had the same cadence as someone would use the phrase "I'm going to bed/sleep" so that's the way I took it. She wasn't uber-casually killing herself, she was going to sleep xD
I didn’t know Shangheid had different endings!!!! It is literally one of my favorite episodes :) I’ve only seen the ending where the Flying Dutchman becomes vegetarian lol
I am so glad Nickelodeon decided to put the "You Wish" special into the "First 100 episodes" dvd collection. It was a nice little surprise for me when I bought it.
I love Shanghaied episode and a running gag of Patrick SpongeBob Guiding Patrick Through the Rocks This would explain why Spongebob never got his driving license I really should watch the latest Spongebob seasons: The ghost of Plankton looks interesting
If I remember correctly, I had gotten a Spongebob DVD from Blockbuster as a kid, which it's big highlight was the episode where we chose the ending. On it though, you could choose to see each character's wish. I remember nothing of Patrick's wish, and I never saw Squidward's.
WixoMelody Animation we can all agree, even though the stories and faces can be a lil overboard at times, the animation in these newer episodes/seasons be clean af...
Here’s a little tidbit. I had the actual poster from Nick Magazine of THIS art. 5:37 Looked so familiar at first glance then it hit me! I didn’t even know about the special episode. I can picture it now. Hung up on the blue wall of my old room!
I liked Shanghaied better. I heard on TV Tropes that the endings are dark because in Spongebob ending, our characters are trapped in another universe where they get chased by the Flying Dutchman as a vegetarian. In both Squidward and Patrick's ending, Squidward or Patrick screw up the wish and suddenly they get a fate which is worse than death.
@@FazkruegerMy theory after the alternate endings that it's that the Dutchman likes the tastes and wants more, he will slowly consume everyone in Bikini Bottom, and that will be truly the end of Spongebob.
These episodes don't have much incommon other than the dutchman being in it. I think maybe Curse of Bikini Bottom ( One of my favorate episodes) should have been in the comparison.
After I watched both episodes, "The Ghost of Plankton" was more enjoyable than "Shanghaied". It was probably greatly or quite interesting to see the parts where the Flying Dutchman was giving Plankton lessons and it was probably interesting to see how Plankton and the Flying Dutchman being together would go. It was probably interesting to see what would happen in the funeral for Plankton.
Speaking of voting specials, remember how El Tigre advertised in one episode, where you could vote whether El Tigre becomes Good or Evil? They said they'll show the most voted ending first and the next morning the other ending. What a fucking lie, there was no evil ending both airings were the same.
Personally, I pefered SpongeBob's over his. I hated the last scene of Squidward's ending where they're still introducing, while we had to stare at the Flying Dutchman, who's turned into a fat blob from eating them.
I know I'm 2 years late, but I'm pretty sure they didn't actually take the vote into account. I think they just assumed Spongebob would win the vote and just proceeded as such but they still showed all the endings the night it aired. Considering how much more developed Spongebob's ending was, I'd say it was a given they planned for it in advance. The period to vote wasn't very long from what I remember either. I'm sure they could have done all of it through computers exclusively even with the phoning in, but even still, live TV and all.
@@moarmosspatoproductions1475 you are not wrong. But I was like ten and I loved Patrick. Continuity wasn’t on my mind as much as hahaha Patrick dumb and funny
When you were talking about the two other alternate endings of Shanghaied, I did get the same feeling that they knew it was a no brainer of which ending will get the most votes.
Seeing shangsheid brought back so many memories and also being more mature made the jokes even better. Like it was funny seeing the ship all bruised after spongebob said keep going. But looking at it now, it’s even funnier when you think about it like this. He know he’s bruising it up, yet still says keep going. Then he literally acknowledges it. It’s so much funnier than just, “oh he bruised up the ship”
29:55 You know what else doesn't make sense? The fact that the Flying Dutchman isn't annoyed with SpongeBob introducing to Squidward after he ate all of them. He was satisfied in Patrick's ending because they were actually suffering in there, and we've already established from episodes like Born Again Krabs that he couldn't stand having to listen to SpongeBob talking to him or anyone else. I think it would've been more funnier if the Dutchman was annoyed along with Squidward in that situation. Maybe him commenting about that removing SpongeBob and Patrick's memories instead of Squidward's wasn't a good idea at all, acknowledging the fact that he didn't think the twist through.
The "pulling the plug" bit isn't that big of a deal, when you remember that Plankton did that to get Karen off his back at least once in the past. Edit: but it was cool to see the alternate endings, even if they were a bit underwhelming. But one thing with long-running sitcoms, is that "more of the same" is the MO. Look at something like Gilligan's Island, for instance; a show I sometimes think about at the same time as SpongeBob.
there is a lot of evidence to show that the you wish special was not fixed, we found alternate scenes with patrick and squidward being announced as the winners and stuff like that
The ending wasn’t fixed the dvd has all the endings also, I remember Tom Kenny talking about the other endings and the voting, the ep that showed all endings was actually the one I grew up with :)
Comparing the first 3 seasons with later seasons is not fair. I loved the episose plankton turned into a ghost. but unfortunatelly it's obvious that one episode from the first 3 seasons would be better. they don't write episodes like that anymore.
I actually remember when it initially aired! I was only 3 or 4, but I remember bugging my older sisters to vote for an ending. I remember being so happy when we got the DVD and it had all of the endings.
I didn't know about the voting and I watched plenty of tv in the past (born 1993) so it was a treat to see the alternative endings to the Shanghaied special.

*W*
Perfect way to spend my afternoon after a grueling day of online schooling
Yeah, I heard everyone is going through Online School now. It's tough but I hope you get through it.
Omg online school is the worst
I didn’t know Shangheid had different endings!!!! It is literally one of my favorite episodes :)
I’ve only seen the ending where the Flying Dutchman becomes vegetarian lol
10:09 I think it is because Pearl is a teenager and they were doing a Carrie homage.
I am so glad Nickelodeon decided to put the "You Wish" special into the "First 100 episodes" dvd collection. It was a nice little surprise for me when I bought it.
I love Shanghaied episode and a running gag of Patrick SpongeBob Guiding Patrick Through the Rocks
This would explain why Spongebob never got his driving license
I really should watch the latest Spongebob seasons: The ghost of Plankton looks interesting
That jab at kpop Stans on Twitter is hilarious.
um does no one notice Patrick's, teleportation powers to come out of nowhere.
6:46
I honestly feel like I had a DVD that had all three endings of Shanghaied on it, but I can never find it.
Masilidon yeah I definitely have it, it came with the spongebob complete collection or something like that bug idk what I did with it
I only remember the spongebob one off the top of my head. Lol
If I remember correctly, I had gotten a Spongebob DVD from Blockbuster as a kid, which it's big highlight was the episode where we chose the ending. On it though, you could choose to see each character's wish. I remember nothing of Patrick's wish, and I never saw Squidward's.
Lol, the same with me! Only watching Patrick's on UA-cam and watching the Spongebob one forever!
6:38
I CAN'T BE-LIEVE that you didn't choose to include the fact that SpongeBob decides to explain this phenomenon as "The sky had a baby!!" XDDDD
Can we acknowledge that cool animation at 2:43 please
WixoMelody Animation we can all agree, even though the stories and faces can be a lil overboard at times, the animation in these newer episodes/seasons be clean af...
Here’s a little tidbit. I had the actual poster from Nick Magazine of THIS art. 5:37
Looked so familiar at first glance then it hit me! I didn’t even know about the special episode. I can picture it now. Hung up on the blue wall of my old room!
Good to see you again Alpha glad to see that Covid hasnt stop you, i really missed your videos.
I'm glad to hear!
I swear, perfume department store scene is iconic, even until now
I liked Shanghaied better.
In other words, they can't win.
@@FazkruegerMy theory after the alternate endings that it's that the Dutchman likes the tastes and wants more, he will slowly consume everyone in Bikini Bottom, and that will be truly the end of Spongebob.
I love watching Patrick dragging spongebob through the perfume department. So funny and shows their friendship
These episodes don't have much incommon other than the dutchman being in it. I think maybe Curse of Bikini Bottom ( One of my favorate episodes) should have been in the comparison.
I already covered Legends of Boo-Kini Bottom, and it was a Versus video around two of my favorite Dutchman episodes.
@@TheAlphaJayShow No I am talking about the one where Spongebob and Patrick were turned into ghosts by the flying dutchman.
@@TheAlphaJayShow Its Curse of Bikini Bottom my mistake
I loved curse of bikinni bottom
"patrick's like a sniper, slowest of the bunch"
yup.
i love the fact that you can clealy see at 5:11 patchy standing on a greenscreen
For shangheied, were the alternate endings on dvd because I’ve definitely seen those before
After I watched both episodes, "The Ghost of Plankton" was more enjoyable than "Shanghaied". It was probably greatly or quite interesting to see the parts where the Flying Dutchman was giving Plankton lessons and it was probably interesting to see how Plankton and the Flying Dutchman being together would go. It was probably interesting to see what would happen in the funeral for Plankton.
Looking at them side by side...I actually like the old Flying Dutchman look more than the new one. I haven’t watched spongebob in about 8 years
“I’m pulling the plug”
*kills herself*
Rofl
Lmao as soon as Squidward's face at 11:58 showed up on my screen I died laughing
That looks like something out of Sr. Pelo
Speaking of voting specials, remember how El Tigre advertised in one episode, where you could vote whether El Tigre becomes Good or Evil? They said they'll show the most voted ending first and the next morning the other ending. What a fucking lie, there was no evil ending both airings were the same.
we all know the most shocking display of anger by spongebob was when he grabbed that crustaceous cheapskate by the throat 😂
17:49 The Dutchman's definitely got a "Listen here, you little shit" face if I've ever seen one.
true
Squidward's ending is definitely my favorite of the three possible endings.....
I was a kid when Shanghaied came out. I called in and got through! I was so pumped.
I voted for Patrick. I didn’t win.
If Patrick won, then the official ending would've made no sense
@@moarmosspatoproductions1475 you are not wrong. But I was like ten and I loved Patrick. Continuity wasn’t on my mind as much as hahaha Patrick dumb and funny
The mall scene in Shanghaied was filmed in a Macy's near where I live
If a brand of cereal came back with prizes in the box being their whole stick, I would only buy that
14:46 is my favorite Spongebob scene. It kills me every time
This is one of those unique SpongeBob episodes I just love because of the character dynamic . the Flying Dutchman worked as a foil to Plankton .
When you were talking about the two other alternate endings of Shanghaied, I did get the same feeling that they knew it was a no brainer of which ending will get the most votes.
I feel like being a ghost would give you hella motion sickness from phasing through things
That face you made when you were flustered at the townsfolk beating plankton up was so cute!!!
29:55 You know what else doesn't make sense? The fact that the Flying Dutchman isn't annoyed with SpongeBob introducing to Squidward after he ate all of them.
He was satisfied in Patrick's ending because they were actually suffering in there, and
we've already established from episodes like Born Again Krabs that he couldn't stand having to listen to SpongeBob talking to him or anyone else.
I think it would've been more funnier if the Dutchman was annoyed along with Squidward in that situation.
Maybe him commenting about that removing SpongeBob and Patrick's memories instead of Squidward's wasn't a good idea at all, acknowledging the fact that he didn't think the twist through.
Anyone else associate Shanghaied with "The Sky Had a Weegee"?
11:57 I've never laughed harder at a face in spongebob.
Shanghaied is my favorite episode of Spongebob, and I also like how it was originally a special. But, The Ghost of Plankton it still a great episode.
Shanghaied no contest best flying dutchman episode .... I like the perfume part and the ladle ladle le part
This reminds me of House of Villains’ own How To Scare As A Ghost sketch.
thats how it is when you get a job someone offers to help you and its just "i love you"
Flying Dutchman is just Captain Knuckles after he drowned looking for Candy island change my mind
I will always reference that spongebob line when i play any pirate game with or without my friends.
I think a good pare for an episode is manray and the flying Dutchman
This Karen is the only Karen we respect.
“Make it 5”
“4”
“3, take it or leave it pal”
"Granted, Squidward's house was just shanked dark-alley style..."
Dude, you have split my sides.
_"That's okay. I already _*_split_*_ my pants!"_
I actually had no idea they made an episode were you could vote over the phone what the end of the episode could be, that's pretty cool
there is a lot of evidence to show that the you wish special was not fixed, we found alternate scenes with patrick and squidward being announced as the winners and stuff like that
I died once patrick said "lets leave."
Shanghaied's multiple endings reminds me of in twisted metal when Calypso would twist the winner's wish and still benefitted
10:27 this dude has no chill, never has never will
I'll be honest; the Patrick's wish option made me laugh hard. Mostly with Patrick struggling to even PROCESS.
Why didn’t plankton just read the formula...
The flying Dutchman also voices k'nuckles from flapjack
I miss when Dutchman was silly, relatable, and scary
I just realized The Flying Dutchman has the same voice actor as Captain Kanuckles from Flapjack
hi meg
@@honeybabes2017 Hi.
They both have the same voice actor.
I didn't know about the voting and I watched plenty of tv in the past (born 1993) so it was a treat to see the alternative endings to the Shanghaied special.
