I use to use the Sawyer Mini/Squeeze but the Katadyn's flow rate is SO much better. The sawyer products drip like a coffee machine. The Katadyn BeFree blasts out like a hose making re-filling much quicker. I think Sawyers might last a bit longer due to this though. The Car Cooler is a must! That Zion trip sounds like an adventure.

They’re a little bulky, but after eating it on my bike on a long solo ride a few months ago and severely spraining my ankle, I won’t go out without one. I’d have been in trouble if I hadn’t been able to coast out on the bike when I wrecked 5-6 miles from the truck.

I've been using the BeFree since it came out because it's so reliable and fast but it would be nice to not even have to worry about filtering and just scoop my bottles in the water. I own the 5 and the 12. For bigger days I wear the 12 because it allows flexibility with additional layers and items. For days when I don't need so much I wear the 5. I suppose the 8 is probably a nice middle ground but I haven't had the chance to try it. I typically just reach for the 12 because it has more pockets up front and doesn't weigh much more than the 5. I love the houdini! I've worn it plenty of times running. Actually finished the last 12 or so hours in a 100 miler wearing one because it got cold at night. It's nice as a wind shell if you're in the mountains on a windy day. Just as long as it's not too hot out because it can get a little steamy inside. Thanks for watching!
On a "heavy" fully loaded day I think it's around 7 or 8 pounds. I like bottles because I can even out the weight of the vest by putting water in front/back which results in less bounce. I also find it easier to visually check how much I have left if I need to start rationing. Occasionally I use a bladder if the situation seems right for it. Thanks for watching!

I assume you need to have a service contract with the Garmin InReach. How's that work out? I've thought about getting one but I would most likely only need to bring along a few times a year with what I do. Thanks for the video.
Correct. My plan is around $25 bucks a month. They offer something called a "freedom plan" that allows you to Suspend/Resume your service when the tracker isn't being used. For instance, if you were mainly a skiier and only used the tracker in the winter you could disable it for the summer months. However, if you enable it once you're obligated to pay for that entire month. It's a little pricey but it's certainly peace of mind for friends and family. Thanks for watching!

Hi just wanted some advice for chest worn heart rate monitors for open water swimming - I bought the Coros apex pro on the strength of your reviews, I did have a Garmin waterproof chest monitor which leaked following a battery change very disappointing for the U.K. price. So I’m looking for a new chest HR waterproof monitor and wondered what your thoughts are thanks, great channel 👍🏻
The only one that I know of that is somewhat reliable is the Garmin HRM Tri strap. I personally don't have a ton of experience with swimming with chest straps though. Sorry! Thanks for watching!
Chase the Summit Thanks I had a Garmin HRM and definitely wouldn’t recommend it as I believe the design to be poor and way too expensive. Had mine for 10 months and changed the battery and despite meticulous reassemble of the battery compartment it leaked like sieve ☹️
Depending on where I'm headed and the weather forecast I'll typically carry an extra long sleeve insulation layer like the Path Projects Pyranese hoodie and a ultra light rain/wind shell like the Patagonia Houdini or OR Helium.

Seems like it would be hard to spend the night on one of those summits with just those layers. Thoughts?
Did you ever run with another type of trail shoe? Im looking at getting Altras I cant run 20km without my feet gettiny sore from my Salomons. It might be something to do with the drop from heel to toe altras are 0(?) And my Salomons are like 11mm
I tried several brands when I first started runnig trails between La Sportiva, Brooks, and Hoka. I settled on Altra because my feet are comically proportioned with a really wide forefoot and a narrow heel. Altra's just fit me the best. Everyone's different though! Altra's are 0 Drop so if you switch from an 11mm it would be worth transitioning into slowly. Hope that helps!
For the headlamp I really like the Black Diamond Revolt. I actually own three of them. They're USB rechargeable and have gone through some wild conditions with me including sub zero nights ice climbing and 110F+ degree trail runs. Petzl seems really good as well... I just don't have a ton of experience with them. Maybe I'll try to get a few brands together to make a comparison video.

Your garmin 945 dont scrach back sensors? Im interested how durable is the back sensor. After garmi 935 when i had change 2 waches i afraid of scraching 945 too..
I actually had one HR sensor crack to the point that Garmin replaced it under warranty. Other than that... the sensor is just as durable as the Fenix 6 or any other Garmin watch.

Hey man I have a question. I got a garmin tactics Charlie a few days ago and I’m having trouble pairing the watch to the garmin connect. Would you know another way to pair it on my phone? I know I can do it on my laptop and Bluetooth but still not pairing on the app.
That's odd. You can certainly pair the watch using your USB cable and your computer but then you won't get any real-time data on your phone. Have you tried uninstalling garmin connect? Restarting the phone? Clearing the cache (if on android)? Possibly try someone elses phone to confirm that the watch isn't defective. Hope that helps.

You should check out Salomons xa filter. Same premise as the katadyn but works with all your Salomon soft flasks. $36 dollars, works great!

Good video. Question: how heavy does the vest get? I am assuming you prefer water bottles than a water bladder. As always, great content.
