Hence, according to Kant freedom is something that is opposed to natural desires.

The Catholic Faith though is both a mystery passed down by Someone from the supernatural realm, and the ultimate fruit of moral reflections. Philosophers have long come to recognize the mystery of humanity for having both free will and the ability to see the good and the bad. Now, the saints of the past and the Church in the present, as rational beings, see the good in making God's teachings as foundation of the moral law. To live in Faith is therefore a decision, not a chain complex that leaves man no choice. Should there be people who do not recognize this 'foundation' of the moral law, then we hear of philosophies such as Kant's.

Yes it is a choice to live in faith, whatever that kind of living entails. How else can one explain the violence and corruption and the evil deeds committed in the name of church and faith? God is surely not making the faithful evil.
It also bears pointing out that this foundation that living in faith bestows is not sufficient for saving us from the evils of the church and the faithful. We see the ghastly results in the elections where the most despicable scoundrels to the highest offices, courts, and institutions -- all in the name of faith and religion.
We now live in an age where the most corrupt live not in our prisons but in our churches under the banner of faith. It is no surprise that we are in the midst of a global plague yet not a peep from those living in faith.

@@vp4744 That's a dangerous way of putting it. You cannot diminish the efficacy and truthfulness of something by failure of others to comply with what is required by that something. This is saying like honesty is good but not everyone is honest, and so honesty is not enough. Unfortunately, that's not how it works.

@@kennethjayunabia3858 It is a lot worse than dangerous. What is the purpose of faith if it can't do the one thing it's supposed to do? We know the corruption and evil among the people of faith is not an exception. It is so pervasive, I am accusing of the very thing you are looking to find an excuse: faith as practiced today is the root cause of evil in our society.
