It needs to go a hell of a lot faster than that if it intends to get through New Jersey without getting a second hand spray tan
Being from NJ...this made me laugh. Thank you.
I'm a train dispatcher for that train line and this is the first time seeing the new Acelas. Looks pretty neat
What section do you usually work?
COOL
0:54 are we in Europe all of a sudden
Well, it is built by a European company, alas two-tones, from what I've been told, two tones are usually safer than one tone.
No, in Europe we are 50mph faster plus.
@@TonyH-8208 Why can't they just use a K5LA?
@@jml8975 it apparently doesn't fit.
There's no room on the power-car for a 5-chime horn. They barely managed to shoe-horn the two-town into the nose.
Amtrak has gone a long way to finally catch up, so much to the point that this feels like we're in Europe or even Asia. I'm really impressed
I have ridden high speed rail in Italy and Japan and I 100% agree with you. Very glad to see it.
Yes, even though it’s a bit slower than the ICE or Thalys, it’s Great that they have it
@@mstrmrenavelia liberty top speed is 220 mph or 355 km/h
If only NJ Transit was this fast.
LMAO
SOON😃
These trains are capable of going 200 mph. Why only make them go 130 to 140 mph?
In Germany our ICE 3 goes 205 mph at some lines.
@@ICE-gm8jd Track and catenary limitations.
@@ICE-gm8jd 20th century railway.
0:44 that’s too close for comfort
German ICE trains drive as close to the platform as the acela did in that example and they are often faster
Amtrak loves to show off these high speed trains all the time, but when they go into revenue service they limit them to 80 MPH :-(
This is for the Acela corridor, where trains do run this fast in regular service.
Even regular trains go above 80 on the NEC. The problem is all the choke points like the tunnel in Baltimore and the entirety of Connecticut.
@@quayzar1 Nuke Connecticut got it
@@quayzar1 Also don't forget the fact that Amtrak doesn't own an overwhelming majority of the tracks it runs on, so they constantly have to give way to the freight trains that do
@@shadowfox549 That problem can easily be solved: just widen the track lanes and make exits for stops like a highway, so all types of trains can run on it freely as fast as they want.

@@jml8975 I don’t want them to slap on a K5LA on it either like all the other trains.. 🤔
@Jaxon Ancona I'm talking about to sound on the rails. And the "horn" still sounds like a whistle anyway.
Everyone: The US is finally catching up to Europe and Asia.
Me: *cries in Australian*
Having said that, I did move to Japan, so xD
USA r catching up nothing. Acela is the yankee version of the french TGV made by the french company Alstom & sold to an yankee company. Murica just entered the high speed on tracks of the XXth century when France & got their high speed trains in the 80's & Germany in the 90's.
Cheers from Paris.
lol Japan be like, "Shinkansen is too slow so we're gonna build Chuo maglev."
Weird flex but ok 👍
Australia is getting huge expansions to mass transit across all major cities, that’s something most nations and certainly the US, don’t have. Cross River Rail in Brisbane, Sydney Metro, Melbourne Metro, Melbourne Suburban Rail Loop, Perth METRONET, Canberra Light Rail, Gold Coast Light Rail, Sunshine Coast Light Rail, Newcastle Light Rail, Parramatta Light Rail, Sydney Light Rail, and Hobart is starting to plan a Light Rail. In my opinion, it is more important that we increase rail based transport in our cities, rather than spending tens of billions on a high speed line. But the HSR will come eventually, at least between Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.
Japan rail trains have to be some of the nicest I’ve ever seen. Can’t wait to get back there for both the trains and the yakitori 🤤
WOW. That was impressive.
But the horns are not.

I wish I knew how to find out when they do those test runs.
As a Brit, I'm really impressed by this new Acela in terms of how fast it is. Americans should be more proud of their new high speed train. Too bad that most aren't.....or don't even know about it.
The new Acelas remind me of the Eurostar and the CRH2 bullet trains running at almost this similar speed
Wow you stood that close on that temp platform. I wouldn’t do it LOL. Great captures as usual!
Great vid! How does one find out when and where the new trains are being tested? I live in North Jersey and would love to catch this by Metropark, Edison or Princeton Junction stations...
That’s what I’d like to know.

European trains are a lot more impressive but America’s finally catching up
Not catching up but not falling behind as fast as before.
this is only going to be used on the northeast corridor. So not really
it's a french train
The train is the easy part, the track infrastructure is the hard part. You cant run European speeds using the current tunnels in Baltimore or the bridges outside NYC.
@@Axatar Americans build that
Crazy, America just did something whole Europe and Asia have had for the past 20 years :o (Not a hate comment, still very impressive :-D)
20 ? We've had those in France since 1980 and japan since 1968!
@@HliarusProd 1964 actually
@@AdamTheMan1993 Yep, the 1964 0-series Shinkansen ran at 130 mph (210 kph), and actually kept that schedule. These have long since been replaced by units that run far faster. Americans have no idea that they are decades behind the world in civilized infrastructure, but I'm glad they are finally moving forward.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/0_Series_Shinkansen
But USA have an extensive air travel like no other.
The US is focusing on Air Travel that's why they are late in High Speed Rail System or bullet train and it doesn't matter for americans cuz many of them have cars. The High Speed Rail is not for long distance travel, also Train is more expensive than Plane and plane is much cheap and more faster than Train.
I wish the paint scheme wasn't so tragically ugly, we really cant get anything nice on american rails it seems

It's amazing. This is three years ago and they're STILL not running.
I really wonder what made the US unable to create a high speed rail service in all these years (except for car industry that was pushing the government, that we know)
High speed train lines need significant subsidies for operation and nimbyism and infrastructure cost is a problem to redo tracks to support the trains. There have been few large scale projects since the building of the interstate system.
NIMBYs, as well as lots and lots of resistance from affected private land owners (supported by car companies and airlines of course).
America wants to milk the car, that's all. Anything that keeps its citizens slaves is good for America.
I’d argue it’s more the airlines objecting then the car industry

Two-tone is temporary I believe.
@@spenceranderson2072 It is not temporary. That is going to be the horn that stays. Better get used to it, because it's not changing.
Another K5LA so it sounds like everything else? I get where you're coming from but I feel something like what's seen on the BR Class 91 DVT should do the trick. Stays distinct without being too high pitched and imo it's got better Doppler. Have a listen below.

French Tech of the TGV (Alstom built). ;)
Correct sir :)
how long are they gonna run at 160 mph? 8 minutes?
What's up with the weird platform extensions that permanently block a track?
Temporary measure, probably.
They're working on the track up the line so to ensure that the station stop can be made, they use those extensions out to the middle so that local trains can stop there on the inner track.
were pantrograph with the old series illuminated?
i First say this in china all the time, where the German ICE model Is used, but they watch it with camera and light. we don't
Congradulation Amtrak you nailed it.
Welcome to the 20th century from France 🇫🇷
Love the horn salute...
I wonder what the inside of the new acela train looks like
I think there’s a video of the interior
It's a great looking train, that's for sure! That said you should not be able to see the electricity pulses like that. That's typically a sign of bad insulation in the wires, or inconsistent contact from the pantograph.
Super video!
Man am I looking forward to those new trains coming online. Now, if congress would just free up the funds to rebuild the tracks they will run on-including eliminating all level grade crossings-to allow those trains to run at their full speeds from beginning to end. I mean, what good is a train that can go fast if it can't go fast.
The reason they can't run full speed the whole way has nothing to do with grade crossings or track conditions. It has to do with the number of curves and moveable bridges. Neither of which is something in need of repair or upgrading. You need to straighten the entire railroad out and move it inland. Both of which are near impossible thanks to how congested the coastline is.
A few years ago saw a vid of a red Shinkanzen passing a station at night in winter. Either the train was speeding or it was an upgrade or it was a new set cleared for higher speeds. The usual limit is 300kph. This "bomb" on wheels was doing about 350kph. 12 carrages plus a power car on each emd. A bit over 5 seconds to pass the camera. For our American friends that's between 214 & 215 mph. Blew me away😳😳😳
I love that train horn so much
I like those trains, french pride 😊

Gorgeous train, but still don’t really like that horn. Reminds me of a French police siren, ironic given that it’s from Alstom lol
These could be ideal for HS2. Very fast and quite loud.
Wonderful 🔥🔥
Which device though?
That train is fantastic for the rails I kinda like the new better than the old one
These trains are 30% lighter and can handle up to 30% more passengers so they are better for the rails

I know that train is capable of going faster, but of course due to the old tracks and it would damage that and the train itself so
Maybe Biden can pass an infrastructure bill right after Covid relief. That would be much needed and could be relatively easy to do. However depends on funding.
I still think these need RS5T-RROs.

The American railway industry needs to be turned on its head. Instead of priority being given freight trains travelling slowly, it needs to be more like the European and UK model where passenger operations take president over freight movements. This has led to passenger trains evolving and becoming the viable alternative to road and air transportation.
What they need is dedicated high speed lines that don't intersect low speed passenger and freight at all. This is a key reason that Japan has managed to operate bullet trains for 57 years with zero fatalities and amazing punctuality.
US plans for this infrastructure across the country were put forward at the beginning of the Obama administration, but conservative obstructionism doomed the plan. Lots of improvements of existing infrastructure did get done with the small budget that was passed, but no high speed lines have been built. That would require political will that America seems unable to muster and sustain.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-speed_rail_in_the_United_States#Plans_for_2008%E2%80%932013
I agree but it’s hard to compare the US to Europe because the US is so large. High speed rail is only viable for intercity routes, cross country routes would take 12 hours or more even with high speed rail. And the US has the best freight rail system in the world so it’s understandable that they are priority because they make more money.
