Angus Scrimm appears in the audience during the presentation in "Chopping Mall", and in "Transylvania Twist" he parodies his "Phantasm" role as the Tall Mall, while also pulling of a goofy butler role as well. My favorite Jim Wynorski movie is still "Transylvania Twist", with all its puns, sight gags, and nuttiness. Its as if "Airplane", "Monty Python's Meaning of Life" and Mel Brooks movies were mixed in a blender, and a few pop tunes thrown in.
Hi Emma from Austin! It was a pleasure meeting you at lunch today and I loved your awesome Chopping Mall t-shirt. I hope you were able to make it here to enjoy Morgan's equally awesome review.
Morgan without knowing it you have answered one of the questions that been in the back of my brain. In Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. episode The Totally Excellent Adventures of Mack and the D, where did the kill bots come from...and now I know. So it appears that I was born slightly before the golden age of 80's movies. Although, we had the original When a Stranger Calls, which is great this time of year. Great review and As You Wish...
I have a memory of watching this movie when I was young, around six. The odd part about this memory is distinctly believing at the time it was a serious horror movie. Next time I saw it was a year or so ago and I thought "Wow that's a completely different tone than I remember"
It's interesting to me how many "robots gone bad" movies got made in the era. Terminator and Robocop being the best remembered now, of course, but there seemed to be a new one at the video store all the time. I like the comment that the teenagers actually did sensible things to escape/battle the killbots, but I remember distinctly all of my (then teen) friends and I positively groaning at the fact there was an auto parts store with full cans of gasoline and the sporting goods store had an arsenal left unsecured for the taking...good fun though.
Yeah, I love how the mall turned out to be freakishly well-equipped with everything the teens would need to take down the Killbots. I know sporting goods stores sometimes carry guns, but that one was really startling in its wide offering of weapons.
Okay, I have to watch this now. I too am nostalgic for the mall culture (I really miss seeing all the cool stuff without the internet pretty much making everything anticlimactic) and what's not to like about killer robots. I have often said that I would like to get a time machine and go back to the 80's for a few days, just to enjoy some of the things I took for granted and thought would always be there. I would even be kind and rewind my tapes.
Another movie that i never knew existed that i can't wait to get my cold, dead hands on⚔️Oh, Wait... I think i may have seen this on Cinemax in '88 - i recall the dialogue but only saw the flair gun and someone's left boob through the scramble (we only paid for HBO but that never stopped me from clicking the CIN on my cable box just in case it was a free weekend).
This mall is amazing if it has everything you need to survive one night with killer robots. I didn’t even know you could buy large buckets of paint in a mall.
Have you thought about doing the Garbage Pail Kids Movie? It's SOOOOO bad but I'd like to hear your take on it. Honestly, do whatever you want and I'll watch it, these videos are fantastic. Thank you!
This is true. (Yeah, I really thought the killer robot sequence in the director's cut of Schindler's List was inappropriate. Glad it was removed for the theatrical release.)
thank you for your amazing way of taking me back to the awesome movies of my glory days in the 80s
Loved this review, thank you Morgan. This and 'Night of the Comet' fuelled my intense teenage obsession with Kelli Maroney. ❤

Fast times at Robocop high?

This movie should be made into a video game.

I love these reviews, they don't make em like these movies anymore, I miss them. So tired of superhero films

To be fair, just about any movie could be improved with killer robots.
OK, ::maybe:: not Schindler's List.
