  • Build this market umbrella planter or side table. Sturdy umbrella base that you can build.
Patio umbrellas continue to get larger and larger but the base that comes with them is built down to an ideal shipping weight. This make your new market umbrella top heavy, especially in a light wind. In this episode, we will build a sturdy new patio umbrella base that also be used as a planter or a side table. We will use products that can be found at your local big box retailer.
We will talk about what the best pot or container might be for this project, what size pipe to use and how to make our DIY project versatile enough that you can use it for many different umbrella sizes. We will take a look at patio umbrellas, market umbrellas, cantilever umbrellas, table umbrellas and more.
Improve the usability of your outdoor space by combining container gardening and artificial shade with a sturdy, long lasting umbrella base or umbrella stand.

These home repair videos and woodworking videos will show you in detail how to build a project from start to finish with handy shop tips along the way. Geared for the beginner woodworker or home repair do it yourselfer these videos will take you step by step and discuss why each step is necessary. Drawing on Jim Viebrock's 40+ year woodworking and home repair experience, you will hear and learn from his past mistakes and life experiences. The shop is not flashy, the homes are real projects and that translates into what you will face in real daily challenges when repairing a home or building a woodworking project. Although Jim has the commercial tools you would expect to find in a veteran woodworkers shop, he will demonstrate the techniques in a plain spoken manner using "home grade" tools that you can buy at the big box retailers. Nothing is more frustrating than to want to learn something new, only to be shown "how to" on equipment that you will never own. Jim's video's will take you from a beginner woodworker and show you tips and techniques on how the more complicated procedures are done, teaching you new skills, and advancing your craftsmanship level.

Looks great but please clarify- does the pin go thru the umbrella pole as well, therefore you must drill thru the original umbrella pole? Thank you!

Yes , in order for the pin to be effective, you must drill through it as well. Thanks for the comment.

this is the perfect solution for me and i love it, however my question is how much concrete would you advise for a 9 foot market umbrella

First, Thank you for watching my video and the kind words,
Second: From a quick google search: A 9-foot market umbrella may require a concrete base that weighs 64-90 pounds. For maximum safety, some experts recommend a base that is 10 times the size of the umbrella. The base should also be heavier if the umbrella is in a windy location, or if the umbrella is made of wood or steel. Cantilever umbrellas are particularly sensitive to wind and need heavier bases. You can also add weight to the base with sandbags or weight bags.

This is exactly what I was looking for .. thank you .
What size of bucket are you using for the triple umbrella?
I have the same one and am having a hard time judging the size from the video

We used a plastic version of a "half barrel". We bought it at a store called Tractor Supply. I have seen them at other places too. We love the triple umbrella, it also has solar lights that are the perfect illumination for our deck. Thanks for the comment.

me again, i have been shopping for resin whiskey barrels and the largest i can find locally is one that holds 49 qts and it is only about 25 inches at top and 14 inches at bottom would be this big enough for the 9 foot umbrella or would i be limited to the 6 foot umbrellas

The tub you're describing is about the same dimensions as the one I use in the video period it should be plenty big for a nine foot umbrella.
