What is unique about Sinulog Festival from other festivals in the country is that it has its own iconic and original rhythmic music and beats that you can easily identify it to Sinulog. The steps in Sinulog Dance is also institutionalized similar to Brazil's samba which means, there is a proper way to dance the Sinulog, not just any dance you commonly see in other festivals. Sinulog dance is two steps forward and one step backward and you can't dance it in any other way. Another impressive feature of Sinulog is the huge number of participants, some of them up to 500 in just one group.
I think it goes to other festivitals in the province of Cebu, each of the provinces has its own music and has basic steps, like how Sinulog has its basic steps. Which was combine to make the choreo of Mabuhi, combination of the Basic Steps of each provinces. I think it is all part of cebu.
@@tryinghardtv3343 Yes, all towns and cities in Cebu have their own institutionalized festivals, the brainchild of Madame Gwen when she first became governor of Cebu way back in mid 2000s. But they don't have distinct steps or movement in their dance routine that is unique to them compared to Sinulog. Sinulog, whether it is held in Cebu, Carmen (Cebu) and elsewhere in the country and around the world, the iconic Sinulog music/songs and beat remain the same. Sinulog is also the only Philippine-based cultural festival that is commonly celebrated/held all over the world annually where there is huge Filipino community, not just Cebuanos.
@@jeffaguilera9466 It's the annual celebration of the founding of the image of the holy child Jesus, not the festival. The festival is a secular activity, not religious. It is the local government of Cebu who initiated the festival as a tourist attraction. The religious community and the admin of Basilica del Sto. Nino aren't involved in Sinulog Festival as the church isn't allowed to organize such mundane activity. The first Sinulog Festival was held in 1980 by then regional director of the Ministry of Sports, and Youth Development, David Odilao, consisting of students from different schools/universities grouping themselves into tribes. The pageantry caught the interest of the Cebu City mayor so the following year, in 1981, the mayor organized the 2nd Sinulog Festival and the first to be initiated and organized by a local government.
