    Mary Poppins was a big part of my childhood, and was almost a religion to me, because of the depth in emotion and the way so much of the movie resonated with me, spiritually. When I saw the movie in the theater after it first came out, it was like I was being transported to another universe, and yet felt very familiar as well.

      We are all in a way the child at heart
      For the lost child in all of us. The many lost childhoods.Many men and women who was in films and was the same.some are Judy Garland, Dick van Dyke
      And there's many others.those worlds where we all can be children again.

    How ironic and sad that the youngest actor in Mary Poppins was the first to pass away. Rest in peace Matthew. I don't know how exactly you passed so young at only 20/21 yr of age, i am deeply saddened and sorry to hear about this, I didn't know until watching this documentary. You did a marvelous job in this movie.

      @Ourfriendvirch 5 років тому +6

      Imagine all the newer movies he could of made that were never made when he was alive like if he was alive I'm pretty sure he would tons of new Disney movies I just wonder what they could have been if he was still alive

    • @miergarz3060
      @miergarz3060 5 років тому +3

      @@Ourfriendvirch I think things would be alot different but I think it was meant to be that way. I think if he stayed alive we wouldn't have The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, Aladdin, & Lion King. They're much different in style & structure than the movies he made when he was alive. Plus I'm pretty sure he would have retired before movies like Princess & The Frog and Up came out.

    A little bit of trivia: Glynis Johns, pictured in the beginning of this clip with Hermione Baddeley, is the daughter of Mervyn Johns who played Bob Cratchit in A Christmas Carol....Mrs. Cratchit was played in the same movie by Hermione Baddeley...

  • @animagusurreal
    @animagusurreal 11 років тому +2

    Seeing Glynis Johns here reminds me of how all of my various obsessions seem to be connected - in this case, Disney and Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim. When Sondheim was being mentored by Oscar Hammerstein, he wrote a musical of Mary Poppins as one of his assignments. Years later, Sondheim wrote "Send in the Clowns" for Glynis Johns when she originated the role of Desiree in A Little Night Music.

    They didn't have green screen or blue screen back then - they had black screen. (I guess it's so that the black parts could later be filmed over.) It was certainly a HUGE improvement over the effects in The Three Caballeros. (Where the actors would perform in front of a screen displaying the animated characters.)

    The little girl, actress Karen Dotrice, said in 2013: “If I’d had my way, I’d never have done any of those films... children should be doing their homework and outside riding horses.” Later on, she told The Telegraph: “I would never have done... “ the film in hindsight, insisting children should have time to “grow at their own pace.” It appears, that despite her cheerful presence here, she still doesn’t have a clue as to the fantasy film that Mary Poppins was. What are fantasy films for? To help us escape the hum drum of daily life. They are not a recipe for a full-time lifestyle. PS. Personally, I am also rather surprised at her “atrocious” grammar, every time she opens her mouth. PPS. Why does she appear in this The Making of MP if she disapproves of the whole film on principle?

    • @chrisnorton4382
      @chrisnorton4382 5 років тому +1

      To be fair, her parents were actors and she 'fell' into being a child actor. Perhaps she felt uncomfortable being an actor but didn't know any different. Parents can be pushy, even with the best intentions. When she was older she continued as an adult actress for a while but decided to quit acting as she wasn't enjoying it. She was happy to play a cameo part in the recent sequel. Mary Poppins was an important part of her childhood as well as ours, immortalised on film for generations.
