Oh my. What an exciting piece of work. I was mesmerised the whole way through. Thank you x
I love that your WOW's give us so many tools,be it paint, shellac, ink, different pigments that work with our beloved wax. Thank you so much for the inspiration..❤️
Thank you so much Judith ! Have fun !!!
I loved the final result, so much interest and complexity. It's beautiful.
Incredible! Love every part of this.
My jaw had never dropped so long over an encaustic video. THIS is what I've been looking for!! Thank you!!
My favorite colors! Really enjoy watching your techniques
Wow! This painting was a journey. All these steps had a story to tell. Bravo! It worked out! The suspense was killing me!
thank you! I have been doing encaustic‘ for a few years and I love the shellac burn techniques you have done here! Stunning!
One of my favorites! I love how the blue and green peek out from between the metallics.
Thanks Rae Lynn !
Stunning painting! Wow, it was fascinating to watch it unfold layer by layer. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much Dorothy !
Sometimes you have to play for a while before you BIRTH something :) You did a great job of layering your colors and burns. This art form takes patience and I find it therapeutic CHEERS Shari
totally AWESOME! WOW
Oh gosh. How bloody brilliant. !!!!!!
Thanks Joanne !
Beautiful! Amazing...
Love it! Great execution!
Thank you Sherlene !
Gorgeous, never new wax or seen painted, tfs
I actually oohed out loud when you started adding the India ink. I love the contrast.
Thanks Cyndi ! I love india ink as well ;)
Thank you for the information and demonstration.
So glad you enjoyed this one Judith !
This is Wonderful !! Thank you so much.
Hi Maria Thank you so much ! Have fun :)
Just finished watching the whole video. I am checking my calendar to see if I could make your workshop!
Awesome Cindy ! Would love for you to join us .
Wow, super
This is wonderful! I love watching these videos. Are you teaching this at any events? I would love to take another in person class with you.
When I try to use oil sticks in this way I always have a greasy, sticky(ish) finish. Does it just have to dry and cure longer or will it never be a clean surface?
Hi! I'm new to this and love your work. Wondering if your working over encaustic board and how do you seal when you're done.
Thanks!
HI, Shari. Beautiful process and result! I didn't see you fuse the black ink you put on at the end. Do you need to do that?
I absolutely love this piece, I've watched this video several times over the past year! I have a question, well 2 actually. !. If I don't want to use the PearlEx powders to color the shellac, what can I use to color the shellac? 2. Does the PearlEx powder seem HEAVIER than other pigments?
What caused the cells to develop? Looks like pouring tech using floetrol but that’s for acrylics. So, what was used to cause this here?
Hi Linda and welcome ! The shellac is causing the look of cells in the wax :)
Hey Shari, Big fan. not sure if you have tried but, graphite with shallac is cool too. originally tried white shllac iwth graphite powder and mix upo and used on paintings , gives a great metalic affect, but have been experiementing, AS we do HAHA, with it and the encaustic. but want the clear instead of white, p[lus tough to find white shallac. anyway, Be well Stay Smilin!
Hello! Long time fan- Love your videos- and am an aspiring encaustic artist myself. I have one primary question about your piece- from start to finish I did not see you add any additional medium.
1-Am I to understand then that it is not necessary to encapsulate all of the work you did?
2- And by heating the oil paints in the first few minutes did that dry/cure/fuse them? Thank you so very much!!!
You’re amazing! 😊
Beautiful Shari! Do you let the shellac dry a bit before burning? I don’t see much of a flame when you use the torch.
Hi Eileen and thank you ! Yes , I let the shellac dry some before I apply the heat. I showed both in the video but I usually do not do the burning off when it is wet because it gets the wax too hot and makes a mess.
I am wondering if you applied any clear medium between any of the layers?
This is another of your luscious works..
Also do you let your oils sticks dry before fusing?
Thank you for your reply...
Hi Judith. Though I don't speak on behalf of this artist I can tell you that there's no need to let the pigment sticks "dry" before fusing. They're semi solid in their natural state and fusing is really what makes them "dry" or permanent. Hope this helps!
Hi there! Awesome work. Im wondering if you could use the shelleac for nails on an encaustic painting as well?
Hi KB thank you ! The shellac I am using is natural with no other additives. Beetle excrement and alcohol :)I wouldn't heat anything that I didn't know the exact contents of and I am really not sure what is in shellac that is used for nails but don't want to breathe the fumes of something that is bad when it is heated or can combust and be dangerous . I love exploring but in this medium you always have to be very careful of what is being heated :)
interesting progression~liked it before India ink.
what are you mixing the pigment with?
Looks cool but after investing that much time watching it, I'd have loved to have seen the final piece for more than a microsecond.
Fascinating watching you work! Was gorgeous at one stage but the defined line at the top and the Indian ink work spoiled it I think - totally changed the mood of the piece, for me at least.... That having been said, thx for the vid and introduction to new products and methods. Loved your dirty pours BTW...
initially, it appeared as though you were laying down oil pastels, is that correct? And at what point did you add the wax? Or, were you working on a large hot plate and those sticks of color were wax that melted and allowed the finger painting? I am so confused. Question 1. did you do this with shellac and oil paint sticks 2 did you do with wax on a huge hotplate then add the shellac?
It's unfortunate that the artist chose not to reply to the most important questions on this video.
@@frogsong63 Agreed! I hope she well, I would rather think she is too busy than to think she was ill or something.
Can this be done on canvas?
I recently noticed teeny tiny almost microscopic bits of pearlx staying in the air around me after use. Even with ventilation there is s lot of fine particles floating about. Breathing this can’t be healthy! I’m now avoiding pearlx rather that wear a respirator. Be careful folks!
Hi Joy awesomely great point ! You should never work with any loose pigments of any kind with out a respirator !
I liked it till the black - that just seems to disrupt the feel of the piece
Why spend the time showing your work with a new material if you're not going to explain how the new material is being used. Perhaps you never intended to teach but just to show. Tsk tsk
That is so rude. Get a grip
Rude, or really just an observation after watching quite a few videos from this artist. One thing I've learned about artists; they are generally quite protective of their techniques and/or materials used to achieve particular techniques. I also know that too often people who take the time to create and post youtube videos have a goal of building their online presence. It's my OPINION that this artist fits into one of these categories. Thank you for taking the time to provide me useless feedback.
REER Activist no, snarky to me and her. She shows her techniques. You're watching them. And there is nothing wrong with promoting your own work, right? Don't be upset about it, that doesn't help you feel better. Just move on to something you do like.
If you want instruction then go pay for a class!! These videos are to inspire and show what is possible. The knowledge and techniques used here are not obtained overnight and are years in the making. It IS rude AND simplistic to think that this could just all be handed over to you in one 16 min video.
