- This 1966 Chevelle Old School Build gets the 283 small block and the TH400 set into place. Ran into a few problems including a broken case on the transmission and a jammed bolt for the passenger fender. We were able to work through the problems and make some progress!
Don't you just love those 3 plus hours of invisible work. The casual observer doesn't see what you spent a frustrating afternoon doing. All that for one frickin broken bolt. That's part of it. I love that body style with slotted aluminum wheels.
This car is like my 66 Malibu, mine is a 327 L30, Carter AVS and factory 4 speed. With a 4 and half rear added. Drove it in high school.
Nice to see you working on a 1966 chevelle. I have been working on mine and i rarely see 66 chevelles. Excluding SS MALIBU is all i see. Thanks!

I find it best to put the floor jack under there with the handle pointing towards the rear of the car, clears jack stands engine hoist etc. Make a 1 foot square plate with a bolt welded to the bottom in the center to replace the swivel plate on the floor jack. Spreads the load out on the whole trans pan. Also get one of those engine hoist engine levelers with a handle on it that you crank to change the balance and angle of the engine and trans. Take the handle off and just put 2 nuts on the long threaded rod. Use an impact or air wrench to turn that long threaded rod to adjust the angle of the engine/ trans.
Did u install 700r4 transmission on 66 chevelle ? Did u have to bent the metal around floor..??? Let me know I’m working on mine
No, we ended up going with a Turbo 400. I'm pretty sure you can fit the 700R4 in there no problem you just have to mod the crossmember.
