6:37 Impedance is Not referred to as Sensitivity. My bad. 😞
Wow! Thank you for info I can understand and use unlike other audiophiles that just give reviews of a new product.
Thank you so much for the support!
My speakers have an sensitivity of 81,5 dB. Sounds amazing with the right amp, which I have!
Thank you! This was very informative.
Glad you got something from it!
@@mykandrew For sure
good day , may i ask im a newbie on hifi system.. is sony an1000 is compatible with polk xt 70? 30?90?20? hts12 sub? thanks..
My speakers are only 81db, and I use an amp with a tube pre and SS out @100 watts. At about 65%, the sound is glorious. Speakers are only 18 inches, and they really deliver excellent bass even with a 6-inch woofer.
Mike, on this video you have what looks like Tekton speakers. From the size maybe a Tekton Enzo with a 7 tweeter Array. I was looking at this speaker. What amp did use with this Tekton and how did you like it?
Hi! Thanks for the video. Do you always need an Amp? I got from a relative a Linn deck and a Linn Pre Amp, and I have a pair of powered bookshelf Edifier speakers (that I want to upgrade) and besides the bad quality of my speakers, music is coming out fine and loud. Are amps only needed if you have passive speakers or I am missing something? Thanks!
As long as you have powered speakers the amp on the speakers will be fine. You only need an amplifier if you have passive speakers.
Hi, interesting video, my idea is to pair KLH model 5 with Schiit Aegir 2 (30W @8 Ohm) and I do'nt know if it's good idea or maybe I should go for other more poweful option
Fantastic video my friend
Thank you Tomas!
Speaking of efficiency, are those Tekton speakers I see in the background? If so, which ones and when is the review?
Great video!!
Why yes they are lol I was waiting for someone to notice lol 😆 they're the 2-10 Perfect Set 🥰
Great video Mike. I am in possession of a pair of floor standing Paradigm Studio 100 V5 speakers and the accompanying CC-690 center channel. The Paradigm sensitivity is 92 dB / 89, the power range is between 15 and 350 watts, the maximum input power is 230, and the impedance is compatible with 8 ohms. Can you recommend a 3 to 5 channel external amp for my frontstage. My budget is between $1K and $1.5K. I'm willing to spend a tad more if I needed to. Thanks a million.😊😊😊😊😊
What does it mean when they use speakers impedance as sensitivity?
Another question. Can one use different ohm speakers on the same amp?
Hey Michael. What if I have just purchased mixed match ohm speakers ie some 4 ,6 & 8 ohm for my surround system to run Will the amp still work them ? Or should they all stay the same ohm ?
Set the amp to 4 ohms
A hot tip: Rotel offers high power and current for a highly competitive price across a wide range of market segments, as well as a highly competent and engaging sonic signature as well that will pair well with many speakers.
I have a 2000 watts amplifier what would be the best choice in speaker must I used for this amplifier?
Three points I would like add.
1. I like how some ab amps are biased to class a for certain amount of wattages.
2 Power is overrated. For most applications with relatively efficient speakers 45 to 60i watts is enough.
3. High powe amps have complex designs which degrade the sound.
4 Dynamic power and having a very linear power supply is the most important so as to follow the signal.
A highly dynamic 60w amp will sound much better than a limited range 100w..
A lot of companies and products use cheap power supplies and hence suffer
3.
All excellent points. Thank you Anthony.
Your knowledge is commendable. However, it's your approach and delivery that made me wish to subscribe.
I have a question if I may..
adding a power amp to an AVR might help develop the sound stage, yet, it doesn't actually improve the quality of sound. Am I right in believing sound quality has already been established from the components within the AVR.
So, basically adding a Poweramp is just giving one more to what ones already got.
This is a great question, the AVR is doing the processing and adding an amplifier will be amplifying the signal from the AVR. However, making sure it's a decent amplifier that measures well is also very important.
Have a 2000 watts amplifier what would be the what speaker watts must I used for it?
love it
Thank you!
I have 2 speakers that were gifted to me by my dad before he passed so they have sentimental value besides not wanting to mess them up is it possible to talk to you directly?
I will pay you upfront for your time
Send me an email to mike@mikeonaudio.com and I will do what I can to help.
I'm not a fan of class D yet but every year that passes they keep getting better. I think class A & AB will fall behind in sound quality within a few more yrs.
I agree, Class D is completely there yet but it's sounding better and better.
@@mykandrew Maybe time to listen to some of the newer high performance class D amplifiers. Purifi module based amplifiers have overtaken class AB amps now in terms of outright performance however market tastes are still catching up. People are so used to distortion that hearing the absence of it is not normal too them.
NAD M23 is one of the best Class Ds at the moment with Purifi Eigentakt modules and worth an audition.
Check out Orchard Audio. Probably the best class D on the market, and very affordable.
@obscurazone yes I did check them out along with others but I ended up purchasing the Apollon Purifi 1et400a.
Hi I'm using hybrid amplifiers, it's a combination of class D and class AB, and with it I can achieve Hifi stereo sound quality for my main speakers and subwoofer
Which amps are they?
For my main speakers I use the technical pro line of amplifiers and the soundstream Lil wander 4 series monoblock for my sub, both amplifiers use hybrid technology
I have 60watt rated speakers (120max, 82db), is it safe to use 450watt rated amp?
Don’t turn it up all the way, but yes it should be fine
Where can i find a amp with 2 channels and that can provide 8 ohms per channel and is affordable?
You must first define affordable…
I ran into an issue with a Yamaha AS 1100 amp connected to Klipsch Hersey 3 speakers which sounded way to bright. I even tried a REL sub and it did help but still system had limited bass with different media recordings.
I'm not a huge fan of the brightness with Klipsch products in general. The AS-1100 is an amazing amp. Try using the tone controls and tone down the treble a bit. Otherwise you may have to get speakers that are more sonically pleasing to your particular sound that you enjoy.
When c choosing an amplifier. If the speaker is nominal is four but it says that its lowest is 3.3. What exactly does that mean? Does that mean that four ohm speaker will be fine? not
That means the speaker can dip down to 3.3 ohms. So you want to make sure your amplifier can handle that type of load. I have speakers that go down to 1.8 so I have to use amps that can handle that type of abuse.
very important addition: choose a silent amp. No fans or fans which only cut in above a certain power level, no hums from transformer coils, and preferably no loud relais clicks when changing source or DSP mode. sounds of an amp will destroy the listening exeperience of esp. high dynamic or classical music.
Monoblocks?
Got 100 watt speakers? buy a 150 watt amp. always be on the safe side. dont over ballast your amp with a too low of a wattage amp. And even better to be future proof just get a even more watt amplifier in case you wanna ditch your old speakers some day.
100watt what? RMS or??
I would rather buy a good quality amplifier first that would drive any speaker on the market with enough power and any impedance. You might want to change your speakers in the future. 1 source 2. amplification. 3. speakers
Excellent video, you say a lot with few words.
My basic rules are:
1. if you put the volume at 12 o'clock and it's too quiet, you don't have a strong enough amplifier. With the volume at 12 o'clock, the amplifier gives approximately 70% power, the other 30% is the reserve that the amplifier must have. Never exceed 12 hours, rather buy stronger.
2. The point is that the amplifier controls the speakers, not the other way around. An amplifier that is too weak will have a harder time controlling the speakers than one that is too strong. I had an Acoustic Research AR17 (86db/50w), with a 60wpc amp they worked great, but with 30wpc they didn't.
These are only rough rules, for an optimal solution you need a little math and knowledge of at least the basics of electroacoustics.
I prefer vintage gear, why?
new gear: you go into the forest and you see the trees
vintage gear: you go to the forest and you see the forest
I don't get the trees and forest analogy. Care to explain?
michael jackson has a very high impedanca
You seem annoying I’ll let you know after watching lol jk
Lol im extremely annoying watch with caution
You passed I subbed and liked 👍🏻
