Never hurts to have extra protection! I lay a screened material ontop of my pond, then underlayment then liner, then extra liner under big boulders lol! The underlayment is only $0.10 lol

Have you ever had problems with burrowing rodents chewing through a liner, and if so, what have you done for extra protection? Hardware cloth? Cement cloth? We have a lot of moles and voles on our property, and as I am planning a pond/stream, it is a concern of mine.

My most common problem is chipmunks chewing holes in the liner. Unfortunately, there is no way to deter them without using rodent pellets. I hate to do that, but they can really cause a lot of damage. I have seen them chew through the underlay material, and use it as bedding.

@@jerseyshorepondscapesvideos Argh! We have lots of chipmunks as well. I won't use poison, so may have to experiment with a smaller, temporary pond for a season to experiment with protection for the burrowing critters, before I spring for the full project.
