The songs on power up Sound like AC/DC but kinda fresher and more modern. Also the backup vocals are really well placed and enhance each track and add a pub vibe to it. Loving it. Much netter choruses on this album that Stick in Your head for days. Also BRIAN SOUNDS HUUUGE and the way he sings sounds even grittier.
Listen to the way he sings the "tryyyy the money shot" in the chorus. Holy hell

I’m with you completely!! There is a lovey fresh feel about this album and the vocals sound outstanding. For Brian being 73 I’m hugely impressed!! Come AC/DC make one more album by the time Brian turns 75!!! Don’t let the opportunity pass you by while he is this good!!

This year that looks so cursed and our lives have changed so much, the new AC/DC album is a miracle! Not only has the classic line-up been reunited (even the absent Malcolm leaves his mark) but the band and Johnson's voice are at tremendous levels! Many new releases made 2020 better, but "Power Up" saved it!
Thank you for this great review!

Yes I feel the same. A banner year for music despite the horrible other issues like the pandemic. I have to wonder if the pandemic didn’t happen how many of these albums wouldn’t have happened or would have sounded different in some way. I suspect 2021 is going to have even more releases by our favorite bands!

@@BrendonSnyder Well, "Fogerty's Factory" is an example of "lockdown album" and possibly both the postponement of some albums and the fact that they don't have tours scheduled to promote them has affected the music itself.
2021 seems to be musically as exciting as 2020, new albums have already been announced by Steven Wilson, Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper, Melvins, Teenage Fanclub and Foo Fighters among others!

I’ve got Fogerty’s Factory in order. Don’t have high hopes for it but still hope it will be enjoyable. I’m especially interested in the new Alice Cooper. And can’t wait to see what surprises 2021 brings us. I’m sure there are some albums being worked on right now that we have no idea and will be a welcomed surprise when annoyed. I’d love to find out that David Gilmour or Roger Waters are recording a new album. Of course king of them all would be to get a new GNR album.

I was very impressed with this record, the flow is great and it seems that AC/DC is really having fun again. The energy is amazing and tracks are nicely placed together. For me outside of Shot in the Dark first single track , songs like Realize, Witches Spell, Money Shot and Through the Mists of Time which I believe is one of the most original AC/DC tracks we have seen in years. I have not bought a physical new release CD in ages but I just ordered this to support the band. I usually just stream new stuff but this album is a physical buy for me after really taking the time to listen to it all the way through it just flows. Has the feel or mix of three albums "Flick of the Switch," with some "Stiff Upper Lip & a dash of Fly on the Wall" thrown in. Pick it up !!!

    • @BrendonSnyder

For Johnson being 73, his vocals on this album sound fantastic. Heck, he sounds better on this album than on "Fly on the Wall".
Angus is great as usual. It seems like maybe he was holding back a bit on the leads. Maybe.
Still a great album. Unquestionably AC/DC.

I was thinking it might be that because Johnson can actually hear himself sing now that maybe that’s why he sounds better instead of just doing it from muscle memory as he said he was when he stopped touring. Whatever it is, he sounds great!!

This for me has been their best album since 'The Razor's Edge'. They really put the work in here to produce a killer album. I love all of it and have listened to it fully a few times now since last Friday. I skipped through 'Rock or Bust' when it was released and didn't care for it, except for the singles. I love the guitar tone and was surprised at how good Brian sounded. This is a fitting tribute to Malcolm. I enjoyed your review here, you deserve far more views and subscribers. All the best, and keep up the great work! :)

Thank you PJ that’s really nice to hear! I wish the subscribers would come faster too but it is building and that’s all that matters. I’m grateful for your support and glad to hear your enjoying it. Regarding Brian, I don’t know where he found the fountain of youth but he is sounding better than he has in a long time. Maybe it’s just that he can really hear himself now so he is able to sing for real instead of just from muscle memory.

I’m with you on all of that. No bad albums what so ever. But some are “great” vs just “good”. Ballbreaker is one of those that I’m torn between. I loved it when it came out in 1995 because rock as a whole was crushed by grunge so it was great to get some straight up rock. I love the song “Hard As Rock” it’s one of my favorites. But the album as a whole I rarely pull it out unlike Stuff Upper Lip, Fly On The Wall or Flick Of The Switch. Yes I am a Brian Johnson fan first and a Bon fan second but Johnson is who I grew up with. Bottom line I love AC/DC....long live rock 🤘

The title "Pwr Up" reminds me of 1978's "Powerage" in similar title and no song by that title. My favourite track on this album is "Kick You when you're Down". It has a bluesy, gritty feel to it similar to "Badlands". Of course, I'm very biased when it comes to AC/DC as I love almost everything they've done. So even by the time it’s looking like bands could go back to touring it would still take some time for major tours to get lined up and happen. Even then I’m not sure that big huge concert gatherings will be happening straight away. There could be restrictions on the size of gatherings for some time. But I’m glad we got a new album in the meantime.

Only average in my opinion 2 stand out tracks for me are shot in the dark & through the mists of time the rest of it doesn't do much for me I thought the last 2 albums were better than this

Well average by AC/DC standards is great by any other! I’m partial to Rock Or Bust too and see these albums as related since they both are in the same vein. But I think Stiff Upper Lip is a superior release.

@@BrendonSnyder black ice was about the best since the razors edge in my opinion but every body to there own opinion......I hear a lot of people saying how good brian sounds & he does & has on the last 2 albums but let's not forget he will get a lot of studio help on the mixing desk to get him to sound this way as Brian's voice has got weaker over the years studio technology has also got a lot better and that's another reason they have used brendon o'Brien on the last 3 album's including this one to get the sound just right

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  3 роки тому

Well there is no proof it’s studio trickery and not the fact that Brian can finally hear again allowing him to sing the best he has in years. Personally I think it’s the latter. Black Ice is a good album but for me it’s too long. I enjoy the first half but get bored during the second half. Then again I know I’m complaining that this new album and Rock Or Bust are too short. I feel like an album needs to be at least 45 mins long and more than 10 songs. For me 12 songs and 55 min is a good length. Any more and I find I will loose interest by the end. But that’s just me.

@@BrendonSnyder yes I agree black ice has got to many songs on it yes but I thought there were more good songs on that one than this on & I would also agree rock or bust is a better album than this but on Brian's voice the last 3 albums including this one his voice has sounded very similar on all 3....then listen to him on ballbreaker he sounds ragged and strained & that's in 1995 the test is all ways singing live but he sings in a lot lower key when he sings live now

I noticed that too about 1995’s Ballbreaker and how ragged and extra gravelly it sounded. Well I guess if it is studio trickery then they can go well into his 80’s and no need for this to be his last album! Haha

Honestly, it was exactly what I figured it would be - another generic cookie cutter album like they've been doing since Ballbreaker. The thing is, I know they can do better. Individual tracks over the course of the last several albums have shown this. The title track, "Hold Me Back" or "Safe In New York City" off of Stiff Upper Lip; "Anything Goes", "Stormy May Day", "Money Made" and the title track off the Black Ice album.
Those are some examples. As albums, though, they're all fairly stale to me. The new one has one track that stands out - "Through The Mists Of Time". Everything else is just a blur.

    • @BrendonSnyder

I agree the best track is “Through The Mists Of Time” and that some tracks are standard fare. But even the worst AC/DC album is still Damn good. At 47 years into their career, I think this is amazing they still sound this good and can make an album of this quality. Not everything can be Back In Black or Highway To Hell.
