I love the fact that while being backing dancers/singers, Chris is very much doing it as rimmer with rimmer's uptight mannerisms (standing arms.straight at attention) while Craig is performing with lister's more slovenly demeanor (e.g. more hands in the pockets). I hadnt fully picked up that detail before.
Not bad, kind of weird to think that early RD predates stereo recording by a year or so. Doctor Who's 1988 season was the first bbc stereo production later that year.
unless I have the timeline wrong here, don't the first stereo episodes of Top of the Pops predate DW series 25? They recorded TOTP in stereo occasionally from late 1986 up to the start of September 88, when it went stereo permanently due to Radio 1 starting a weekly simulcast
sounds about right, Red Dwarf was first filmed in late 1987 and then mid 1988. NICAM was first used in 1986 for the first night of the bbc proms. by 1991 it was offically standardized across the country on the bbc after all transmitters were upgraded. So that makes it hard to tell exactly when stuff swapped around. And this is coming from a guy from the USA. MTS Stereo was started around 1984 and was adopted widely by 1994. MTS is the standard used for broadcast in north america. @@joshbaker1581
@@joshbaker1581 The early series of Red Dwarf were filmed at BBC Manchester, I don't know whether BBC Manchester's facilities at New Broadcasting House were equipped for stereo productions at the time.
The quality is the best I have seen, thank you. One of the best sketches on the show I must have watched in dozens of times when it was first broadcast.
Show started before i was even born, I was brought up on this as a kid - If not the best TV Series ever created & at 31 i still watch it on the regular.

@@chrismaguire3667 That is where Red dwarf flowered from. Dark Star is still too weird for me I saw that and the schlock together 40 some odd years later I have not recovered lol
They did! Though the release was in 1993, so around the time of series 6. It reached number 17 in the UK chart. Though it was, more accurately, a reworked version Danny came up with rather than this one.
Made before the Beeb become woke and knew what a woman was. RD could never really be made this way - if *ever-* these days. What a sad commentary on the times!
@@YoungButRetro But there is none. The commenter is correct anyway. The BBC has been corrupted by politics so much now that it has ruined many great shows. The main one for me was Doctor Who. I grew up a huge fan of the series but then it died for me. Woke doesn't care for the story as much as it does for "the message".
I'm looking for this dream I had last month on the dream recorder. It was me, 3 girls and a family sized tub of banana yoghurt.

@@aftermath_96 might be true.
Yeah I remember reading TOTP went stereo in '88 as well. I think Blackadder 4 was the first sitcom shot in stereo AFAIK and that was '89.

I feel like Danny needs to do strictly come dancing purely so he can dance to this song again…ideally with a cameo from Craig and Chris.
You are a genius.
He was on strictly in 2018!
@@thugisa17 well so he was! Apologies for the oversight! Sadly doesn’t look like he danced to this song though which seems like a missed opportunity.
@@StuBlair-f4j He did dance to Top Cat though, which was a neat choice.
Remaster sounds great. Well done.
Thank you!
Sounds GREAT! Like how clean the video is too. One of my favorite songs that needed a re-mix so bad, thank you!
video is only clean cause hes reduced the size of it, like playing it on a smaller tv, it looks better

Imagine how much they must have laughed during filming this! Absolute classic!
Awesome, no canned laughter like it was on the original show

Mine is still the Rimmer song
Can't foir the life of me work out what the guitars are doing in verse, absolute funk shred
An idea - Danny to perform this on the last ever Death In Paradise alongside Don Warrington and the rest of the cast.
Thank you SO much for this remaster!!
