FALL in CONNECTICUT - Apple Picking & Finding the Best Pizza in New Haven (RV East Coast Road Trip)

- This has been the most amazing day in Connecticut!! After the terrifying drive on the New Jersey Turnpike... we make it into New Haven and are in search of the best pizza in town. We have been given two recommendations, so we decide to give them both a try. First up is Frank Pepe which has been around since 1925 and Modern Apizza which is a whopping 9 years newer, founded in 1934. Which is the best pizza???
Then on to the activity that I (Alisa) have been most excieted about in planning this trip up the east coast... apple picking!!! We visit Bishop's Orchards which has a huge 'pick your own' orchard with lots of apple varieties to choose from. We bought a bag for $22 that we can fill to the brim with fresh apples! Let me tell you, there is something very satisfying about this experience... not to mention they were some of the best apples we have ever tasted!
Also, Bishop's Orchards is a Harvest Host where we could 'camp' for the night. How cool is that to sleep next to an apple orchard? They also had the coolest store we had evern been in with apple sauce, cider, etc made from their apples. But not only that, lots of items that were organically farmed and freshly made. We knew it was going to be an expensive shopping venture when we saw all of the amazing items for sale, but it was so worth every penny for what we bought.
Hands down one of the coolest experiences we have had to date!!

Hi, you should be able to identify the red delicious apple by the bottom of the apple. They normally have 4 bumps on the bottom, like little legs. Hope you are enjoying your trip. I'm excited to see your video from your maine visit.

This Is why I miss Connecticut so very much. I feel like my soul belonged there and I lived there for 16 years. And I’m glad you’re getting some macoun apples they’re my absolute favorite also! Have a pic in front of that Sign when I was there with my best friend a couple years ago. We used to pronounce macoun as ma-cow-n. 🙂

When I lived in New England (Rhode Island) we loved going apple pickin. Although we went for baking or apple sauce… Cortlands.
Funny thing is we ended up baking most of them when I discovered apple crisp… yum!!

Grew up going to Bishops Orchard. I lived in the town next too it Called Madison right on the shore line. I have so many great memories of Bishops the Apples and the had the Best French baguettes in their store we could eat a entire loaf with cheese & apples. Loved this video
totally a fuji. Fuji is more rounded than a red delicious and very shiny
Looks like a traditional thin crust pizza from Chicago. That's where we're from. Chicago has primarily 2 kinds of pizza. Tourists usually get the deep dish pan pizzas. Locals prefer the thin crust. The bottom of the crust must be very crispy. Yum!

We live in Southern California and in an area that is east of us you can go apples and cherry picking.
When we went cherry picking one time we had picked about 20lbs of cherries and took them with us and oh my goodness that was a lot of cherries and we shared them at work for days. Lol

The boardwalk is well know especially the pizza at the famous Sawmill on the boardwalk and of course the beautiful ocean!
Dough Roller has good pizza - but being a Maryland girl, Ledo’s pizza will ALWAYS be my all time favorite. Even tho it’s a chain franchise, it orientated in Maryland. They have one in OC Maryland too!

Modern Apizza is the best!!
It’s so funny because here in southern Ontario we have so many stores like that. Of course we have the Niagara fruit belt but tons of farmers markets all over.
Sally's pizza 2 minute walk from Frank Pepe's is best but you should have gotten the white clam

What a special place, it was a pleasure watching this video. Y'all look like you really enjoyed your time there, I know I would - shopping, apple picking, farm market foods (I would have been checking out those cheeses and of course a tart hard cider if they had it) and I can't think of a better way to enjoy the evening in a field next to an orchard watching TX Chainsaw Massacre, hahah! Last note, I am hoping you guys will give us a Pros and Cons to your travels in your new RV at some point because even though that's not the most cheerful thing, it is very informative and I'm curious as to how it's been out there on the road when things might give y'all a bit of trouble. Hope to see something like that in the future but in the meantime, I'm loving that you are sharing your adventures! :)

Come to Michigan, try Detroit Style Pizza. LOTS of camping areas and the entire state has great things to see, both Upper Michigan (it's not part of Canada as some think lol) and lower. You like waterfalls? Got em, Light Houses we have more then ANY state. Like wine? GREAT wine and awesome craft beer (Traverse City Cherry Capital best Cherry Wine)

Not a fan of Frank Pepe pizza, we have one in NY and we've only been once. However, I was told that they are known for "Clam Pizza Pie" and we had plain and it was just ok.
Half the fun of apple picking is eating them out in the field.

You need to rethink commenting on the individual restaurants you visit on your travels and comparing them next to each other and rating them or individual dishes. Comparing cruise lines and their food to each other is one thing. It’s just not fair to the local business owners. I understand you may not think it’s a big deal but think about it. Why would you want to even take the chance of influencing someone’s business negatively based on your casual comments on a UA-cam channel that’s designed to be just a free spirited travel channel? They don’t deserve that kind of treatment. You’re tourists not food critics. If it makes any impact at all on any of these restaurants I think it’s completely irresponsible.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Jason and Alisa are only giving their personal opinion, as they pointed out.
@@Caroline-se7gh I agree, they are entitled to their personal opinion. I was pointing out that they may want to consider how those opinions may negatively impact the businesses they are visiting without their realizing it. That's all.

People can have an opinion without having to think, now who will I offend if I say this.... ya they may say something about food that might make some person pick one business over another, but that's what reviews are for! In fairness they said both were good but in their opinion, they preferred one and said why...personally, looking at the pizza, I'd probably prefer the first one with less char.....its all a matter of personal choice.
